Throws....how do you deal with them

Oh please get off that high horse. As if proper forum etiquette such as searching is only applied on these forums. Having the same questions spammed all over the boards is far more toxic.

OP got a lot of good suggestions, I’d suggest checking out the Newbie Saikyo Dojo forum section for more help with “easy” questions.
One more thing to note. Don’t overcomplicate things. If you got your blocking down eating a throw is still better than eating a big combo because you start mashing jabs to prevent the throw.

i can’t tell if the OP was referring to online specifically or what. My guess is it was a “lag sucks so I can’t tech” question (I could be wrong). If it is because its online that you are asking… basically just tech like you would offline and shrug it off if the tech doesn’t come out. No matter what you do, depending on connection, there will be times that the game jumps over your input and you get screwed. It is just part of online. I’ve been having an internet problem recently, so I’ve been getting randomly DC in matches… many times in decent connection matches that I’m winning. And because it DC I end up getting shafted for a loss. If I took online seriously I’d be crazy by now. Luckily I just do it for fun and when shit gets bad I just go offline, change games, or phone a friend. Otherwise its just a matter of doing what you’d do offline and crossing your toes (unless you play with your toes in which case cross your fingers).

double TKCS :shy:

I don’t deal with throws. Throws deal with ME.

online people teach each other about when to throw, like when i started playing online, i realized people threw a lot more then my local friends. so after awhile you realize, ok i miss timed a cross over and whiffed him, he is going to throw me, so instantly try to tech it.

and it works. other strats are easily recognized as well, like wake up throws, you backdash or dp, jump, tech it.

ryus love to jump roundhouse jab jab throw… easily teched.
ken is a bit harder with his gay ass kara throw, but youll learn after the first one…

scrub zangiefs jump around spinnign the joystick for spd, so jump straight up when he jumps at you. so easy.

Play M. Bison. Do all of the throwing.

So interesting that people call ‘constant throwing’ cheap. Tech that shit or backdash and punish their whiff. Most throws are pattern based anyway, i.e. ryu’s usually jump in do 2 jabs or some variation on that and throw. Teching might be tricky at first but experience will teach you a lot as you will spot the patterns (which everyone has). Alternatively you could be the one taking inititiative and throw a lot if that’s something you like, but advanced players won’t fall for it anyway and it’s used more as a way to get some space after teching.

Tick throws are a good tactic, but if you pay attention, you can tech the shit outta it, every time, even Kara throws. However, sometimes even when you know shit is coming, you still get slammed (or headbutted by Balrog). This happened to me yesterday. This Balrog threw me possibly 30 times in 6 or so games… I slapped myself in the face, and spammed the fuck outta tech (crouch tech select) when I started catching onto his patterns.

The sad thing is I had to take a few losses before I could stop the madness. But eventually I learned from it.

Well, there’s no way to tech 'em on reaction thanks to the small window to accomplish this, especially on-line. So… yeah - mash. Or else spam throws yourself whenever your opponent’s close like the pros/schmos do in tournies. Scrubby as it comes, but if you can’t beat 'em - and you value winning over skilled play - join 'em.

This is what you get when you put a 3D throw mechanic in a 2D fight-game. Cry Crapcom a river. :coffee:

lol.
