Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike for Street Fighter 4 Players
8PM Tuesday Aug 23rd 2011 at Best Bout Gaming
I will be giving a lesson on 3rd Strike catered towards SF4 players. I will try to cover everything from the very basics to general option selects and a few character specific advanced techniques to give people the basic tools they need to play the game at a high level. I will end by taking requests for strategy tips for characters that people are interested in learning. After the presentation is done I’ll do some exhibition matches with characters people would like to see in action.
3rd strike lessons from THE Fat Bear! I’ll be there.
can you teach me how to low forward > super
“Hit properties on Dash Overhead changed so that it can combo into c.strong on all characters.”
oh fuuuuuuuck Bimmy
Papabear’s swan song is going to be teaching everyone Third Strike, cause when that kid arrives he’s gone ; )
Maaaan those Ken and Zangief buffs sound stuuuupid, maybe I’m missing something… but at least I’m looking forward to hearing about the rest of the cast.
On a personal note my moving plans have gotten all fucked up so this Tuesday may be my last night at BB before I’m out of OR. I’ll try to make Friday as well if I can, but this’ll probably be my last week in Portland. That is also why I was absent last week, my GF got bad news from her school after graduation so now we’ve been mad busy and have to rush to our new place.
The same Fatbear who lost a money match to Kai??? No thanks.
Fixed for Luls
ahahahaha
Lesson #1 - Don’t money match when you’re drunk
Lesson #2 - If you ignore lesson #1, don’t continue to money match drunk if you’ve lost the first couple sets.
I jizzed my pants when I read this. As if I needed another excuse for Dash Overhead…LOL!
Yeah Third Strike is aight for sure. Fatbear will be doing the tutorial at 8pm for all of those who are interested. Back to playing now
Lots of people here, 3rd Strike in the house
Eventhubs says Gen’s Jyasen(his roll) got buffed not hands, liking the sounds of his buffs even if he doesn’t get escape oga back. I’m digging those Abel buffs also.
GGs tonight, I gotta start practicing more regularly had a few ugly moments I didn’t enjoy seeing.
Edit: also that long set me and Angel had was alot of fun, finally sat down and actually used Gen’s U2 which was a nice learning experience.
Damn good night. At 2am there were still about 20 people in the house. 3S brought 'em out. Here are the results.

so umm someone took my PS3 stick. It’s an SF4 Round 2 TE with a slightly scratched ball top (been meaning to switch that out). At the end of the night there was a black SSF4 TE-S that was unaccounted for, I’m guessing whoever brought that ended up taking my stick on accident. No big deal, we’ll swap back the next time (just curious who it was)
Abel’s buffs got me pretty happy. Especially happy about the c.hp fix.
Yup, we also have a few extra sticks that got left. Not complaining, they are safe here.
For a quick report on the Portland area scene, things have been going good. Last night was our largest turn out for our weekly throwdowns so far. People were rolling in as late as 1am, we kept it going till about 4. I missed the last Beatdown, but heard it was strong, on the other side the Smash community has been holding it down for their tournies, we were packed out the door last Saturday. The first 3rd Strike ranbat went well, we are going to continue to push that. Shout outs to Fatbear for the online and in house tutorial. Also on Friday’s we will have a nice set up for CvS2, in which you can play on TE sticks (thanks to the Salem crew). Also on Fridays we are going to push more retro games, Windjammers is rising up at present, and Bomberman will be back in effect. Also looks like a Smash/Nintendo night is in the works, probably Thursday. Anyway, all games/systems people want to contribute to the community are welcome.
On the skill level side, things have been on the rise as well, I think Evo helped this. There has been general improvement in the local community as players are getting more serious and seeing beyond the fishbowl of just Portland. I still highly recommend if you do attend our weekly sessions to also make it out for the big monthly tournaments, builds experience and supports the scene for sure. Also if you have a chance to travel outside the fishbowl to Seattle, Cali, or other, we recommend it. Carpools for NWM will be in the house when it rolls around. That’s one everyone should get to if possible.
Last note, to all new players. We are offering tutorials and lessons in all games, so if you are just getting into it we are happy to do a sit down/walk through of the games. Windjammers you’re on your own though, and I give up no secrets in Bomberman.
All in all, good shit Oregon, let’s keep the momentum rolling. See you Friday.
edit: Also posted up some pictures from yesterday and the last week
