Heya,
I think it is good note some of the people who have improved. We don’t talk about it enough, some peeps deserve a little shine. As an observer, a bunch of the crew is in a better place than they were before. This is a shout out the people who have put in their work and had some results. Paul has improved quite a bit, like Angel I pretty much had my sights set on SamB’s Cammy, but more recently Wedge has thrown his hat in the circle and stepped it up. Bimmy is another one, his Balrog isn’t free and he has made some great improvements from when he first showed up. He’s one of the younger players on the rise, Bokkin mentioned something to me about him when we were at Cole’s, Jetay and I have chatted about him coming up as well. Angel hasn’t been slack either in working to step it up (though busy with school), I remember when I first started playing his Akuma it wasn’t there yet, he has improved quite a bit. The easiest indicator of progress is tournament results, on that level you have to mention SamB’s recent jump. After lingering in the third or fourth spot for grip, homeboy finally decided to step it up and claim a Slugfest, knocking down a few of Seattle’s top people in the process. I do believe some of this can be contributed to the more organized scene in Portland, and connecting to Seattle. Of course there are a lot of people that are better than they were a year ago, and some people that are maintaining their good skill level. Question is who’s gonna be the next one to step up and really jump forward? Y did it in SF4 a year or so ago, making that type of jump is what I would like to see a bunch of our crew achieve. There’s consistent improvement, then every once in a while someone makes that mad leap, which is legit. I am putting my work in with Fei, and though I took a dip for a minute when I brought him back, now am feeling pretty confident, more so even than when I was playing Sagat. Each person simply has to put in their own work to get the rewards. How peeps go about that can be different for each person.
For Throwdown Tuesday, I think it is really a matter of each person getting what they want out of it. Not long ago I was separately approached by two of our top local players, each one with a different perspective. The first player requested more tournament style events, and was down with the ranking system getting pushed through. Later the second player conveyed he didn’t like all of the organized stuff, and preferred just casuals where people sat down and ran back series, interacting about the matches to level up. There are going to be different ideas of how to advance, or what each person wants to get out of the public sessions. The answer is that it can simply be whatever you want it to be. Doesn’t have to be one way or the other, people can go and have fun at a casual level, get set matches, join in the weekly tourney, or jump in the ranking system. If you aren’t interested in doing things like the tourney or ranking, simply enjoy the casuals. If you want more than the casuals, jump in the organized shit. I personally like to partake in a few different things, the stuff where we are running it back and interacting about the matches I dig, I think I call out out Mack every time I see him (another player that has improved btw). I’ll jump in the tourney and ranking as well, basically do whatever if it’s there. All of it seems beneficial to me, but that’s what I am looking to get out of it. Someone else might see it a different way, and go for different reasons. Basically it can be whatever you want it to be. Like an amusement park, choose the rides you like, skip the stuff you aren’t interested in.
For Y’s ranking system, that is one of the things he is really interested in promoting. We ran some initial stuff that people seemed to like, and will be playing around with it a bit as it goes. Until Y returns however we’ll probably be testing out different things with it more than anything.
Anyway, Throwdown Tuesday in general has seemed to be the central meeting place for all the various clans in and around Portland. We all have our peeps we school with throughout the week, whether it be the inner Portland crew, Beaverton, Salem, Alex/Bimmy’s crew, or the other posses that keep popping up. The variety and number or players are there, it’s just what peeps want to get out of it. Look forward to the next one, see everyone in a few.
I like Throwdown Tuesday because I don’t have electricity & this is the only time I play SF4
Let’s go Magic & Green Bay Packers!!!
it hasn’t been THAT long has it? 2 weeks or so
Showing up to see AJ before he dips and to play 3s.
Maybe I’ll body some of you kids at sf4.
better be some tvc there
This is how want to level up for myself…
I want to be told what I am doing wrong. I am one of portland’s top 5, and I know I need a lot of improvement. So any piece of advice would help me. I have the worst footsies, and am extremely impatient. I have my work to put in, and I am very hungry to learn. I’m going Tuesday and hope to get results. (My apoligies for the incorrect spelling. I’m on my phone)
Here’s some advice for some of you:
Stop cracking once you get caught in your opponent’s pace.
Stop focusing so fucking much.
Stop jumping so fucking much.
Talk more shit.
Get more hype.
Maximize your damage output.
Stop standing up when you’re blocking, it’s not like you take extra chip damage when you crouch block.
Don’t focus on who you are playing, focus on the character match up.
Stop clinging to hollow victories.
Man the fuck up.
Take a fucking shower.
Stop being a fucking-sfIV-tier-list-quoting-cunt.
Fuck frame data, be real enough to acknowledge that you cannot react in 1/60th of a second.
Eat two dicks.
Carry yourself with some fucking pride.
Sometimes the best option is the worst option.
Fucking ultra when you get it, ain’t nothing wrong with guaranteed damage.
Stop dick riding.
Get some bass in your damn voice.
Stop wandering off when you have fucking matches up.
Stop begging to have your matches streamed.
Don’t expect a fucking hand job from people when you do something smart.
Stop turning shit into a circle jerk.
Come correct.
Stop giving poor advice.
If you don’t know what you’re talking about, shut the fuck up.
Wash your damn hands.
Stop getting butthurt over shit that really doesn’t matter.
Realize that you’re just a big fish in a small pond, there are bigger fish out there.
If you really want to improve, put in the fucking work and take some fucking initiative.
Own up to your poor choices, stop blaming your losses on bullshit.
Eat your vitamins and say your prayers.
Go home and be a family man.
The answer lies in the heart of battle.
It’s cowabunga time.
That’s all for now.
Only two?!?!?
edit: I lugged a PS2 stick with me last week because I thought y’all were going to need it for that 3S setup. I got trolled
Two dicks is an appropriate amount, there’s no need to be gluttonous.
Also, bring your ps2 stick please as a legit 3s set up will be brought this tuesday.
So can I expect a handjob for doing something dumb? If not what are the proper steps to receive 1?
AJ is like a fortune cookie
To improve individual gameplay people need to try shit out while they play casual instead of sticking to what they know. To lose and learn is better then winning a pointless match with no positives other then a +1 win. Certain people are improving…
more like AJ likes to eat cookies
I use to come to gatherings after hitting the gym and still smelled fresh… Hitting a event smelling like the area between your nuts & inner thigh is not wassup
Real advice, do follow.
i didn’t know wake up ultra was “trying stuff out”
anyways…too many people flowchart in portland. Either it’s a shitty flowchart or half decent flowchart, it’s still a flowchart. Like I’m still seeing year one tactics. Learn your options (normals, option selects, anti airs, etc…) and try them all out. Why waste your time going to casuals doing the same flowchart or gimmick that may or may not work on other portland players but will get you exposed outside of local play…
For the record: cherry turnovers > cookies.
And i agree with simon, he knows what’s up.
Unfortunately, the sfIV engine promotes flowchartness.
Well sorry that you like to push buttons simon
The point of playing a fighter is to outsmart your opponent
Oh, gotta show you this gross cammy setup that I hit angel with last week…it was something you would do
Uuuugh, can’t go this week. So depressing having to go through online matches trying to find the 10% that aren’t laggy pieces of crap =/.
Can we have a 2 dollar entry fee tourney?
2nd gets his money back
1st gets the remaining pot.
