Dr. Strange joined the underground Avengers to make up for his gay absence during the civil war and aiding them in avoiding shield and the mighty avengers. They went looking for maya lopez under Luke’s suspicion, fought Elek’s clan, won and then found out she was a Skrull in disguise. (actual locale of elek is unkown)
After that, it occurs they get all emo and start questionign each other. Spider-woman makes off with the captured skrull and takes it to tony stark.
Then there’s something about stark tower getting attacked and new york city being overrun by symbiotes.
My thoughts: “What the hell!? I don’t even know if I like this.”
I think this is the best New Avengers has ever been. It was pretty entertaining when it first launched, and then during that “Collective” arc, it hit a low point - I’d say that was the worst Bendis comic I’ve ever read, and I’ve read his Sam & Twitch. Then when they started doing the Civil War tie-ins - defying all logic of “crossover tie-ins,” it started getting really good and now it’s just firing on all cylinders.
There’s genuine intrigue in the title now. The art’s cool and the characters are being written and used creatively. Bringing back the Hood deserves extra brownie points, too. A lot of crap is happening and for all the dialogue and talking heads scenes, a lot of story happens in each issue. Bendis’ best strength is his sense of drama and he’s building it up very well right now. I have confidence we’ll get a great payoff when his plots climax.
Very excited about this title. Lots of intrigue and mystery lingering still since the first issue. Who was the person Electro was ordered to break free from prison? Who was the man who hired him? Where did the purple man get that apple he is eating from last panel of issue #2?
I understand Bendis had mentioned that the Skrull invasion has been planned since Secret War 3 and the first issue of NA, so I can’t wait to see the big picture.
RE: upcoming symbiote attack of NY:
Remember that Sentry took Carnage to outer space and ripped him apart in New Avengers #2, so this could be the return of the symbiote (although these don’t look like Carnage symbiotes, I have no idea how these those work anyway and I have no idea where the venom symbiote is now aside from being with Mac Gargan.)
I thought that too. But I’ve just gotta go with Bucky as the new Cap.
Anyway, Hood is the MAN. I definitely think that he’s gonna end up being the best new (but not really) character we’ll see for a while. Pwning the Owl. Beasting Tigra. He’s gonna be the best villain around.
