I only get upset by a loss under the following conditions:
-Getting beaten by the same repetitively easy tactic over and over again by the same person. I’m more upset by the fact that I can’t figure out how to stop it (mainly friggin’ 6 tick throws in the same freakin’ round).
-Opponent using the same single boring tactic over and over again, even if I’m winning. I get bored with it. I’ve been known to rage-quit when I’m WINNING just because the other guy is boring the hell outta me.
I love losing a close match with someone who’s legitimately better than me or of equal skill. They’re exciting matches and a blast to play. I play to have fun…getting raped 30 times in a row is not fun to me.
I think it’s funny that a lot of you start with your secondary (or worse) characters…I do the same! Gets the blood flowin’, and it’s just one more element in the mind game that is ST!! It’s especially funny when you realize that THEY were using their best from the get-go…and you rape them with your main…then they rage-quit.
Lag abuse and turbo control usage are about the only things that piss me off thses days. You can learn to deal with them, but really there is no point, because you’d be learning to play a different game than the offline one.
The better player wins. If I lose to shoto scrubs, then unfortunately, they are better then me. Although, losing only makes you better. When you analyze your losses, you can try to prevent it.
Only times I really get mad is when there’s lag and the opponent is using lag tactics. (e.g. jab srks with ken) I still beat them because they’re trash, but it’s still retarded when the cpu allows the ken player to get his jab srk out, get it all the way up to its highest point, then it tele-lags to him landing before you can punish him. It’s even worse with tele lagging Vega walldives. A lot worse. I am sometimes tempted to scream “TURN OFF YOUR FUCKING UTORRENT!” into the mic, but that’s not very sportsman like so I mostly don’t do it, mostly.
I just lost to an ass load of people right now and I’m pretty frustrated so I think I’m in the perfect position to answer the question again.
The thing that’s going through my head right now is, “Careless, careless, fucking CARELESS…” A lot of my losses were the results of really terrible trade-hits, unforgivably bad timings, over-anticipation, underestimation, impatience, and just overall shitty carelessness on my part. God, it was like one bad decision after another. I’m not even going to blame it on lag, this was literally all me.
I realized that while I did lose a hell of a lot of them, some of them were actually quite close and I’m almost reluctant to admit that yes, I probably gave my win away due to my carelessness. During times like this, I find that’s it’s usually better if I turn my PS3 off and just chill out for awhile. The more frustrated I get, the less I can focus, and the less I can focus, the more I lose.
I also like to take nights like tonight where I mass-lose as a form of self-training. The more I can get more and more used to losing (For whatever reason) the higher tolerance I’ll have which will most definitely help me in keeping my frustration at bay so I can focus more. Everything is a learning experience. Just gotta get better.
Losing… whats that? I honestly wish I would lose more often online so I could actually learn something instead of mindlessly beating scrubs into the ground. My favorite online sets are the ones that don’t end in an empty room with my record being 26-1. Infact winning easily bores the living hell out me. Can’t understand how people get off on beating noobs all day long. Whenever I enter a player match with some “names of the game” it gets my heart pumping because I know I actually have to start trying. When I finish with a record of 10 wins and 11 defeats I know I learned something and it makes me wanna step-up my game.
You seem to be misinterpreting the point of this thread.
I haven’t seen a post yet that had someone fly off the handle spewing garbage as if they feel cheated that they lost.
The vibe I get from the posters is that yeah losses happen, but you pick yourself up and are better for it.
You are the one that seems to spoiling the atmosphere of this thread. Maybe you don’t like the idea of a thread about this topic. Which is fine. But no one is forcing you to post here.
RickClops knows the deal, but I will throw my own little spin on it.
I read this thread, and I see a bunch of excuses. Lag is one thing, and even then, a good player should adapt.
ST is simple, every character has a few things they should be doing/attempting in the match ups. To get your ass beat because YOU fucked up is no one’s fault but your own.
And the thread is to talk about the kind of thoughts and feelings you have when that situation occurs.
So…why are you trying to derail it if we are all in agreement?
Rickclops: So…the title bugs you? Cuz if you read my OP I don’t give off that vibe at all. I go as far to say that I’m proud of my losses because they made me better.
And the title…well what can I say.
It does happen. As I said. We are only human. You WILL lose to someone worse then you sooner or later. The mark of a real warrior is what he decides to do after that loss occurs.
But you seem to miss the message I’m trying to convey because you THINK I’m being egotistical.
Here is what I think. You guys need to get off your high horse. I think the “play to win” matra has clouded your minds. Losses happen for many many reasons. When I say that, it’s not an excuse. It’s the truth. An excuse would be…well I lost to this random noob a bunch of times, but I don’t need to inspect my game at all cuz I know I’m better.
That’s not what I’m saying at all.
I don’t know about anyone else. But I don’t make excuses. As I said in my OP…when you lose you have two choices. Become strong or stay weak. There is no in between.
Ignoring losses or the reasons for them doesn’t make you a tough competitor. It makes you ignorant.
I’m advocating growing stronger after a loss and you are both misinterpreting the message I want to convey.
I’ll speak plainly. When you lose try to understand why you lost so you can rape the shit out of everyone next time.
Losing is always good for your game. Lets you see wholes in your playstyle or what you need to improve on, whether a “noob” who j.rh you to death or a solid player who just outplays you. If something specific beat you, go in training and recreate the situation to find ways around it. Take the loss for what its worth.
When I use words, I use them objectively. You took when I said random noobs out of context BTW and I think you are smart enough to know it too. I never called anyone weak, I said WEAKER. Big difference.
The world isn’t in black and white. Just because you lost doesn’t necessarily mean they were better. As I said in my OP, sometimes you lose for different reasons.
Why are you focusing so much on this?
And how the hell am I talking trash?
I’m beginning to become frustrated here. You are missing the point of this thread entirely because you think I’m making excuses when I haven’t made any.
The “Domination 101” section of this forum has really good advice on how to think about losses and how to improve to a point that you don’t lose to people you think you shouldn’t be losing to.
Am I going insane or did your previous posts disappear?
And yeah I read them.
For the record, there is a good reason why I listed losing to weaker players in the title.
It was said before, but if you do lose to someone who might not be as good as you it’s WAY different then losing to someone who simply outplayed you. If you are outplayed, then it’s more like…well they were better then me, so I should train harder. If you lose to someone worse then you, usually it’s cuz they exploited something in your game and it forces major growth as a player and you end up a much stronger player. It’s also usually because you took risks or maybe you didn’t pick up on thier weaknesses quick enough. Simple things like that, end up going a long way in terms of getting better once you correct them.
I agree with the way Seth Killian describes it. Either the opponent beats you because they outplayed you, or you defeat yourself by poor execution, etc.
