I think I speak for a lot of people when I say save the rebalanced for a new version. Constantly updating to balance would suck.
So how bout some suggestions?
Chun-Li’s EX hazanshu should hit on the way up.
Her super should be a Kikosho. A lot of the supers should be changed in my opinion, it’s kinda lame when the super is very similar to the ultra.
starcraft is the paradigm of a balanced game. But you shoudl remember it has only three “characters” (races). The RTS sequel to starcraft, Warcraft III frozen throne, which has four races was NEVER balanced to everyone’s satisfaction, despite the numerous patches that were released to address the constant cries of imba.
so if mighty Blizzard could balance three races but not four, what chance does Capcom have of balancing 24 different characters so they’re all diverse and interesting yet equal???
however despite the impossibility of balance I would like them to try to balance a certain number of characters more closely. Like take 16 of the characters and try to balance them by tweaking damage levels, hitboxes etc. they’ll never do this though and it would cause an uproar of complaints if they tried.
Basically, the game doesn’t need patching. Matches are winnable with Vega and Guile. They aren’t even an enormous uphill struggle to win if you make good use of your normal attacks.
Basically when they game came out everyone gravitated to characters who could juggle into Ultra. That became the tier list. More ways to juggle into Ultra, better the character.
And when you have most players picking a narrow list of characters, you will not be seeing much innovation with the rest of the cast. And with this iteration of SF4, most people are taking their cues from Youtube videos of top players.
Game is balanced better than most fighting games out there in terms of match ups. It doesn’t need patches. More DLC however…
I think the future for Capcom in a commercial sense is to follow the successful console franchise route and release a new version of the game after an allotted time period. It works for CoD, Madden, Fifa, Pro Evo, Smackdown vs Raw etc etc. People go out and buy the newest version with updated content and tweaked gameplay and options. I don’t think it is feasible to release a new game every year like those titles, but making a new SF every 2 years going from Arcades to console release 6 months later is certainly workable as a business model.
And hell, after the success and hype of MvC2, they could alternate each year between a new vs game and a new SF game. $$$$$$$$$

The balance in SFIV is amazing comapared to past and present fighting games. If it wasnt for the scrubs who shit themselves after losing to Sagat or Akuma, then there wouldnt be that many complaints. I have seen scrubs claim that Bison, Blanka, Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Seth, Sagat, Zangief, Balrog, and Blanka are all OP…scrubs running amok on eventhubs…
Saying that, some characters are not as horrible as people say they are like Vega, Guile, and Gen. The only character I think it pure crap is Dan, and that is how he is supposed to be!
balance patches are a stupid idea. you’re supposed to actually learn the game. it’s not like this game is full of 8-2 matchups.
you shouldnt be picking characters because you think they are cool looking. pick a charcter that feels right to play.
a balance patch would make it a completely different game every patch. would anyone really want this game to be “hd remixed” every couple months. it takes time to learn a game. why even learn it if your hard work learning the game gets erased every couple months.
this game hasnt even been out for a year yet. believe me, we dont know the ins and outs of every matchup yet.
as for claiming that all we see is top tier characters, i still more kens than anything. after that, maybe balrog. i dont know about you guys, but i see alot of vegas and guiles online. i’m pretty sure that people who want patches, online is where they mostly play.
im sure if there is anythin that needs to be addressed, the dash version will address it.

Actually… there has only been one, MAYBE two real gameplay changes to StarCraft online. Nearly all of the patches were to fix exploitable glitches or to lock out hacks. Even with Brood War, those units had maybe one or two changes later to solve other unit-specific bugs.
Of course there should be a balance patch, but they should really give it awhile. If anything, just address the obvious imbalances now, like Guile’s Ultra.
Don’t forget buffing an already top tier Gen-Fu because he was underused!
It really looks like Itagaki balanced the game using data from the character usage stats than anything actually competitive based.
Actually there have been changes in Starcraft. Largely in build time and cost. For instance at one time the Photon cannons for the Protoss used to cost 150 minerals and now they only cost 100. Zealots used to build much faster till a near untouchable zealot rush became a problem.
For the most part it has been minor glitches and tweeks, but there was at least a few balace patches.
Yeah, but weren’t those caught early on? There was also something where a Spawning Pool was like 200 minerals instead of whatever it is now.
Yes and no, It took till version 1.4 to find the Zealot rush problem which was practically right before Broodwars. Some of the other problems were fixed before that. Although small balance changes were made as far up into 1.9
In my opinion, there should never be a balance patch. Just my opionion. there will be at least one more version of SFIV. and seriously, guiles ultra is really not bad at all. His FA is decent. you can hit your ultra after a FA. not that difficult. Just think, do you ever land a AA flash kick? just do ultra instead. And contrary to popular belief, you CAN juggle guile’s ultra.
Vega’s ultra however is just garbage.
no cannons still cost 150. they’re 100/100 hp if that’s what confused you.
I know for sure that arbiters used to be unbelievably expensive… but as far as pro-starcraft goes (which involves people who know a game and its balances and exploits) it started in 99, the same year that Brood War was released.
I don’t think this game is imbalanced, I just think there’s a lot left to learn. I’m in G1 with Rose and I learned new stuff just a couple days ago about her.

Capcom won’t put out a balancing patch that may threaten to undermine the status quo of the arcades. Now a patch that involves only console exclusive characters may be feasible but is probably unlikely. The next best thing to do then is to wait for the next iteration of SF 4.
If, by any devil chance, Capcom would decide to make a balance patch though, their prime priority would be to recruit the best players from tournaments so far for reference on WHAT to do (I think Blizzard did that once with WoW’s arena tournaments but I might be wrong).

Not really, the guy you quoted is just in denial that a imbalance problem can exist. For the most part his idea of what balance isn’t probably even close to what the word balance means. In the case of mmos (with the exception of Guild Wars), there really are very obvious balance problems. Like xxx class being able to obliterate xxx class without much effort. What the guy you are quoting is saying is that is ok for this to happen, but if you learn to accept it and then you can deal with it better and build up a artificial belief that everything is fine and dandy!
If SF4 was balanced then tiers wouldn’t exist and every character would have a 5-5 chance to beat one another. But everyone knows this is not the case. I’m not saying SF4 is bad as it is, but to say this game is balanced is only fooling yourself. The only game I’ve ever seen that is balanced is Guild Wars. And thats due to its unique pvp system.
