It is what it is. You can believe or express what you want, but you have to own it afterwards. If people don’t like their reflection, they should know who to blame.

What is sexual harassment?
Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination. The legal definition of sexual harassment is “unwelcome verbal, visual, or physical conduct of a sexual nature that is severe or pervasive and affects working conditions or creates a hostile work environment.”
**Unwelcome **
Conduct is not sexual harassment if it is welcome. For this reason, it is important to communicate (either verbally, in writing, or by your own actions) to the harasser that the conduct makes you uncomfortable and that you want it to stop.
**Conduct Of A Sexual Nature **
Many different kinds of conduct—verbal, visual or physical—that is of a sexual nature may be sexual harassment, if the behavior is unwelcome and if it is severe or pervasive. Here are some more examples:
**Verbal or written:**Comments about clothing, personal behavior, or a person’s body; sexual or sex-based jokes; requesting sexual favors or repeatedly asking a person out; sexual innuendoes; telling rumors about a person’s personal or sexual life; threatening a person

Physical: Assault; impeding or blocking movement; inappropriate touching of a person or a person’s clothing; kissing, hugging, patting, stroking

Nonverbal: Looking up and down a person’s body; derogatory gestures or facial expressions of a sexual nature; following a person

Visual: Posters, drawings, pictures, screensavers or emails of a sexual nature
** Non-sexual conduct may also be sexual harassment if you are harassed because you are female, rather than male, or because you are male, rather than female. For example, it may be sexual harassment if you are a woman working as a carpenter on an all-male job, and you are the only one whose tools are frequently hidden by your male co-workers.
**Severe or Pervasive **
The conduct of the harasser must either be severe or it must be **pervasive **to be sexual harassment. A single incident is probably not sexual harassment unless it is severe. For example, a single incident of rape or attempted rape would probably be sexual harassment (it would also violate criminal laws).
Although a single unwanted request for a date or one sexually suggestive comment might offend you and/or be inappropriate, it may not be sexual harassment. However, a number of relatively minor separate incidents may add up to sexual harassment if the incidents affect your work environment.[/details]
Points for harassment: Pretty much every thing under the verbal/written category other than directly asking for sex/starting rumors/making threats; the footnote about being treated differently because of gender; the ‘pervasive’ point.
Points for not harassment: Lack of communication that conduct was unwelcome.
Guy said some juicy things, people are really surprised the news outlets picked it up?
For its own good the community needs to be doing more condemning of the creepy asshole and less getting defensive and covering for him. Every Mike Watson “You love it!” comment makes the community look worse.
It’s kind of Capcom’s fault though, everybody knows Aris shouldn’t be allowed within 5 blocks of women or children, and yet they still put him on the show.
I don’t think people realise there is a difference between being;
A) an abrasive member of the community; calling people scrubs, frauds, etc.
B) an unshaven sweaty piece of perverted shit who doesn’t know how to talk to women in a normal fashion, on camera
My mind is boggled here. I don’t think you read any of it. A court of law will define these as sexual advances and WILL persecute if someone decides to take action against him.
The definition of Sexual Harassment is not your opinion, its a fact that even lewd comments count as sexual harassment. I’m not trying to talk out of my ass here. This is coming from how it is defined by the United States government.
So you stand by your submissive bitch remark? I’m going to assume you thought the same of Rihanna right? You’re one of the Chris Brown fans? “He beat Rihanna until she had to go the hospital, give this man a Grammy!”
Let’s talk about all the awesome positive stuff the FGC has done recently
-Raise money for when Chris Hu’s house burned down
-Help Spooky replace his equipment after DHS took it on his way home from Canada
-Raise money for Japan Relief after the earthquake
-Raise money for DaRabidDuckie when he needed help
No matter where you stand on this issue, the fact remains that the FGC has been damaged by this and it may possibly be permanent. At a time when sponsors and mainstream recognition is a essential part of the competitive gaming scene, this makes us all look bad and keeps it from growing with new people now scared to wanna be apart of it. We have become our own worst enemy.
From the guy above’s post defining sexual harassment… I think the bold part sums up why I called Miranda’s behaviour as acting submissive and why I think sexual harassment is an inappropriate term here…
I’m sure there are threads for that.
Treat this as an opportunity, we can both ostracize the psychos and come to terms with an issue that’s been haunting the community for years.
There are a ton of guys that are like this in the community, maybe a bit of cleansing light is exactly what we need.
Edit: Nini, protip: If you’re ever ever ever blaming the victim, you’ve gone far wrong.
I’m blaming everyone who let the situation get to that point.
Protip: If you always consider the victim as never liable for anything that happens to them, you’ve gone even further wrong.
The FGC has done awesome things, which is exactly why this ugly thing needs to be brought out into the sun.
Ignoring this sort of crap is a big part of the problem. We should discuss and rightfully classify this behavior as aberrant and unwelcome. Some people here think that being offended by sexist, dehumanizing, and irresponsible talk is “white knighting”, when it really should be a baseline response to this sort of needlessly hurtful garbage. It may be uncomfortable now, but it will eventually strengthen the community.
I respect that point. But Submissive does not = welcome attention IMO. That’s the main issue here I think. Do I think she should have stood up for herself sooner like your girlfriends do? Yes I do. But its no excuse and doesn’t change the fact that what Aris did and said was sexual harassment. Hell even if Miranda forgives Aris but some other female who watched the stream decided they were offended, they could have a case against him easily due to the extremities of his words.
man shut up don’t you no one one pays attention to the good and only the bad
YOU NEED TO BREATHE HATE
I said it before, Aris is immature. He is IMO not really the right person to represent the FGC. He took the whole pleasing the stream monsters and trolling thing way too far. There is definitely grounds to take him to court, though I doubt any judge who analyzed the situation properly would declare him guilty due to the unspoken acceptance of the treatment by the “victim”.
Still, some of the comments he made are downright disturbing and I’m just sad that the FGC will be associated with those types of things, even though i’m pretty sure that he failed at expressing his thoughts properly. I doubt any one who understood what sexual harassment actually is would publicly speak out and say that it’s part of his community
Submissive does not = attention whore or welcoming attention, submissive is more related to the fact that she didn’t speak up and let the situation escalate, she just kinda let it rock which is the worst thing to do in that sort of situation as the offender can easily start thinking that you like it and going further.
Nini “Sougo” Heart, your avatar and your words just match too well. You’re gonna go to that very special level of hell .
Except the problem with this situation is that all we have are tweets and second hand information.
We do not know what happened off camera, outside the team rooms, etc. All we are doing is assuming because those involved are keeping it hush and then sites are blowing it up out of proportion (by how much is unknown) (not saying this isn’t bad).
If you just want to discuss the larger issue of whatever you guys are calling as “sexual harassment” in the FGC, don’t make it out like it’s only the FGC because it’s largely a social issue, present in more than just the FGC. Our community is very diverse and largely proactive when faced with adversity, such as what we are doing now talking about this issue and looking to improve it.
It’s a shame that random outlets are taking tweets and things said on stream out of context trying to say the FGC as a whole is misogynist, homophobic, and racist because that’s the opposite of what we are.
I’m not condoning or justifying the behavior.
Miranda says she’ll be talking about it to Rose on FGTV.

Hey guys,
It’s not sex harassment. Aris is gay; he doesn’t even like girls. Plus, he’s a staunch supporter of the women’s rights movement and equality re marriage.
Aris is moving the movement. Judge him on his entire persona, not what you see on TV.
The cool part is that you’re wrong, and that her saying No and Stop repeatedly qualify as You Should Stop Doing This.
That is in fact speaking up. Learn to listen. I had to check your profile to figure out if you were from outside the US (check) and/or young (check) because this shit should be old hat for anybody that wants to remain employed. This isn’t rocket science. Unfortunately, just because you’re used to people acting like tools does not justify them acting like tools.
I looooooooooooooooooove bad and obnoxious humor. I’m also careful to do it only with people that I know well. :\
And seriously, don’t blame the victim EVER.
“She was dressed like a slut, so she was asking for it!” is never a valid defense. You (or anybody) have (has) a responsibility to act properly.
In the same way, no matter how many different ways that guy calls you gay, you’re in the wrong if you punch them.
That’s the world.
