I guess hoping he maybe would just eventually stop which he didn’t. From that YouTube video it sounds like another person is joining in with it a little too. The greater problem here is that people are now starting to look at Aris’ behavior and assume that it means that the rest of the FGC is filled with douchebags. Ofcourse, some of the replies here aren’t helping. Heck, the DToid article is already singling out Shoryuken.
THIS is exactly what I was worried about, which led to my op rant. I don’t know if I’m beating a dead horse here, but are people still on the other side of the issue saying its not a big deal? I still can’t fathom how people don’t see this as wrong, but maybe I’m stuck in my ways.

Most people don’t know Aris personally, but he’s a very stand up guy. I think it’s a combination of the TV cameras, streams, people, etc. that are causing him to act outside of his normal personality. He actually VOLUNTEERS at a womens shelter during his freetime and commits a lot of other hours to the Red Cross. He’s very sensitive towards the issues in society with respect to women and is well-versed on the happenings of this subject. That is primarily why he jokes, at times, the way he does. He’s making light of the plight of women, but by no means does this mean he is malicious or is ignorant. Quite the contrary, he is leader and activist of the movement and should be APPLAUDED for his acts and not portrayed as he is, as that is only PERCEPTION and not reality. You guys need to get your facts straight.

This just makes it all the more appalling that he would mistreat women like that, all the while knowing full well how negatively it affects them. Then to defend his actions so stridently instead of admitting he was wrong.

IMO, it’s only the GiantBomb article that seems to be balanced, emphasizing the debate within the community and not generalizing it as a whole.

SRK is getting singled out for a reason, it’s the center of this particular Malady in the FGC
The problem is that, for most non-fightnig gamers in general, SRK does represent the FGC (whether or not it really does). I’ll admit, it’s something that the guys involved with the site don’t discourage since it helps generate hits and pay the bills, yet at the same time, it does put pressure on the community to “clean up” so to speak. That said, I don’t think that this is a bad thing in general, because as the community grows, we’re bound to face growing pains such as these. Now is a good time as any to identify what are the good things about FGC culture and how we can maintain these while at the same time, addressing the many flaws that we admittedly have.

I personally haven’t watched this show and I only know of Aris due to watching EVO (Kayo Police). However I feel that the gross majority of this (localized in that room) situation could have been avoided by having “professional camera-ready” hosts/commentators presenting. I’m sure there’s a lot of trash-talk in basketball, baseball, etc; but I don’t hear Shaq or Strahan talking shit or acting like dicks on air. It’s hilarious how Aris is talking big like he himself or his words represent the FGC and/or its demeanor yet he doesn’t seem to place a modicum of effort into actually “representing” publicly/properly/professionally.
Capcom/Namco should have done some homework and gotten people with broadcasting experience or at least just have UltraDavid/James Chen run the entire damn show. Hell, maybe the jargon/tech/info commentary would be lackluster but at least it wouldn’t be completely politically incorrect.
