I came in here looking to close the thread for it being FGC related…then I clicked then link…and now I don’t know what to think anymore.

I don’t know what is it with people who constantly try to find some ridiculously extremist example and claim that this represents the whole FGC.
We were born in the arcades. The multicultural background of our community makes the opinions and views of our players be incredibly diverse.
In the arcade environment, most of us weren’t there expecting to make any friends, we were simply there to compete, and watch other competition.
In other words, the arcade environment for a lot of us meant a place without rules, and yes, in some places that privilege was abused and misused, but it’s a mistake to say that this represents the whole culture. That’s the reason why Aris said what he said on Cross Assault.
The FGC is not equal to sexual harassment, what Aris really meant is that the “no rules” privilege of the places he hanged out on was used by its members to sexually harass others.
It is through the bond of competition that we found each other and started this community. You should know that when you seat with someone to play 20 games in a row. There’s not much difference between that and having a conversation. Many times I’ve walked out of a huge set knowing that the person I played against is completely trust worth. Why? just by playing with this person I knew he was dedicated, I knew this person took his time to make calculations, I knew this person was careful about his decisions, and I more than anything knew that this person, just like me, has taken the time to understand and learn something at a high level just out of pleasure. Its no coincidence at all that huge friendships are born after long and intense sets.
At the same time, just by playing with someone I’ve been able to tell that I probably don’t want to hang out a lot with them.
With this new generation of gaming, the arcade culture is now only a small part of the incredible diversity in this community.
I don’t know what you mean when you say the FGC is going “nowhere”. I’d really like to know what qualifies as going “somewhere” .
I love the FGC. I’ve learned things about life and myself that I would have never learned otherwise.
If you want to base your whole opinion of the FGC on one Facebook group that uses racial stereotypes, go ahead, enjoy yourself…

How is it lazy? More people check Facebook than SRK regional forums bar none, it would be stupid not to migrate and incorporate your scenes in FB groups for organizing events and sharing strategy information.
I remember my first tourney, which was CvS2 in southeastern MI. I felt like a light bulb in a dark room.
Of course, the Asian guy (Rusteezzy) won.
It was him vs. VDO in the finals. Some of the best games I’ve personally witnessed.
