Just watched the Evo vids you posted, Skeletroll. I’m stunned. What happened!? The player in these videos is reasonably skilled, doesn’t seem to be making a fool of himself (on camera at least?), and is someone I would gladly call “one of us” at the time. How could he have fallen so far, to be acting and playing the way he does now? He has gone from a decent player and seemingly decent human being…
…to a racist, sexist, raging twit whose fighting game skills can best be described as “comically inept, punctuated by occasional displays of adequacy or occasional brilliance that only serve to make his normal string of mistakes all the more jarring.” It’s sad. I don’t mean that in the more casual use, but its most literal one; I am saddened to see just how awful a player and person he is now when he wasn’t always like that.
ArtVandelay, I think you’re right. It’s time for me to stop bothering with dsp and move on to this Engravings guy. He’s willing to be silly and have fun with the game while honestly trying to improve at the same time. I like him, and thank you for sharing his vids with us!
DSP had a reputation for being a dick back then too. Anyone remember that YT video of some dudes outside Evo doing an interview and seeing Daigo sleeping on a bench? The dude being interviewed mentioned DSP and referred to him as “Down Syndrome Phil” and this is back around 05 or 06 I think.
And I just want to say, I really hope “I’m pressing buttons!” and “I’m blocking! (cackling)” become the next big FGC memes like “Yomi” and “Let’s go Justin!”
Isn’t “I’m pressing buttons” particularly silly of him when the advice one often gives to players is to stop pushing buttons? I’m just sayin’.
Edit: While I am not fond of using those particular descriptions for dsp (or anyone else for that matter, as I worry that it belittles those who truly do have mental health issues)… yikes, I’m disappointed to hear he was acting like that back then as well. This means he started at ‘bad’ and got worse over time. Ugh.

I have played Street Fighter IV since vanilla launched on console. I sometimes get a little mad when I thought I teched the grab or drop a combo, but holy shit. This guy needs to accept his defeat.
All these excuses of his is just ridiculous. It’s never his fault but always the game or everyone else that is wrong! I’m now 99% sure that he’s the worst case scenario of the current “special snowflake” and “everyone is a winner” parenting smh.

EDIT: He did ridiculous grinding to Level 97, and yet still managed to die repeatedly. The stream feeding him answers was bad enough, but this shit is worse than I thought.
