This game and carpel tunnel

i have problems with my hands but that’s because i have tourettes, sometimes i might get a little “ouch” or whatever. but i just pause for a few seconds and i’m good, i don’t think i’ll be wearing casts anytime soon, but those D-Pads on the old school controllers? MURDER.

same here every time i go to training mode with archer in fate uc and with arcueid in mbaa(because of her bnb’s full of delays), lol. At least i don’t have to practice bara cancel’s so hardly anymore :stuck_out_tongue:

Just do wrist exercises before and after playing. Roll them, move them around etcetc.

I personally get problems in my one wrist and elbow, but that’s genetic on my end so I don’t worry wears a wrist support when playing It helps me so it might help you

I get long lasting pins and needles in my hands if I play for too long on a controller.

I’ve recently developed RSI in my right arm - though not just from playing fighting games - I work in IT and spend all day doing computer stuff.

I play on a stick and at the moment the button presses are discouraging painful so I’m more or less taking a break until super comes out and then I’m going to try and work out some kind of of regime where I manage my playing time so I don’t make my injury worse.

I hadn’t seen this thread before I made me own one in fgd, but one positive side effect I’ve noticed is that mashing is more painful than properly timed inputs so in a sense my injury is training me not to mash!

The more I think about it the more it seems like the things I need to do to avoid making my RSI worse are all things that will improve my play i.e.

i) Relaxing and not tensing up for the whole match
ii) Only pressing the buttons when I need to - not mashing.
iii) Being conservative with my hand movements and only moving my hands the minimum amount required.

Its early days yet and I’m still a bit worried that I should have taken better care of myself and that as a result I won’t ever be able to “seriously” play fighting games again - but on the other hand if I can adapt and continue playing my game will probably be better of for it.

You have to realize it’s a total combination of our life style. We are the beginning of the carpal tunnel generation. Until a break through occurs, it’s going to plague developing and developed countries for some time. There is no doubt that this game probably contributes.

Bring on the neural interface.

Nope, but I did get carpel tunnel from playing BlackJack at a casino for 8 hours by flipping my chips in between my fingers…

Do not do pushups to increase bloodflow! The reason is that you’re already compressing the pectoral muscles when you hold a controller, which over an extended period of time reduces circulation to the arms and hands. You’re better off doing rows correctly.

Holy fuck. I can’t believe anyone would play a fighting game with a keyboard. Seems like blasphemy.
