Lol Maxxvatars were hype AF. To this day the only reason I’ll listen to song from that music video is solely because he worked on it.
Besides the original @maxx meme was him not having an avatar for an eternity. Then randomly one day he got one ( A gif of the Scott Pilgrim vs The World character). It was a strange day when he stopped rocking default.

Sonthemall saga was nice. Before that was Mycha Leonhart who loved “big women” and seemed like all of SRK gen was like, “ you like fat bitches son GTFO” and he kept posting pictures of examples…which only fueled the fire. He was a more low key member so it was odd to see a whole thread turn into roasting him.
Bloody Youkai was a thing in 2003 and then we had Red Queen around for a bit. Everyone hated Bloody but then he disappeared and everyone actually missed him. It was like some odd Stockholm syndrome. Star hammer, YahnV and I used to stay up all fucking night in the Late Night Thread posting just dumb shit just to see who was still up and around. Then we had a poster in that thread named Yushiro that was kinda chill but got banned randomly.
We had S.AM and his, “you want pain?! Aegis reflector” at the bottom of the stairs or some shit. Athanasy disappeared. Angel palm is back at least. Ronin Chaos is gone, no more Running Uppercut. Random Negro aka Adam Warlock has moved on. Million used to ALWAYS talk about sexual stuff. Maxx and his avatars that made fun of poster Motoki “fall back nigga! Dipset!” Radiant Silver gun who I NEVER talked to but rembered his name because it was unique to me for poster handles.
Kaiz001 or something like that…had a Saito avatar from Kenshin anime he’s gone. Septimus Prime was a pleb like the rest of us then became a mod and supposedly was banning people who bashed the PlayStation brand, then he got banned for doing that. Tons of other crazy shit that’s happened.
We used to have, “I’m new” threads. Like legit I’m new threads(Before they started becoming fake postings) where poor newbies would get destroyed with flame posts and Fatherbrain would randomly issue a challenge to each and every one to fight his SF turbo Zangief online.
We had Unreal that isn’t around anymore. ACT LIKE YOU KNOW from poster, Sony. Shin Akuma (wife to someone on here I forget who). Sakura forever aka Weeks isn’t around anymore. No more Colguile and his oh shit avatars. Our old OG feminist RokChik aka Roxie (some years before Matron) was a force pushing against the male status quo around here before RC banned her for stirring up some trouble I believe.
We lost a lot of posters to time itself. Mummy B who seemed like he was going to pull through from his cancer but sadly didn’t. Dasrik passed away. It was really weird to go back a few years prior and read actual posts from them.
There’s tons more memories from this place but I’m not sure why I remember all of this. Guess that means I enjoyed hanging around! Place has definitely changed though. So many have grown up and moved on. I remember when JWong used to post on the normal here and actually talk shit back to people talking shit about him. Alex Valle use to actually play me and other scrubs in 3S on the OG Xbox live back in 2004 and then he’d actually hang out with us in the 3S forum and give feedback to help us get better. I remember getting “live” updates on 3S at evo and listening in to live phone calls streamed by someone commentating on what they were seeing. Back before camera phones or even live broadcasting. I miss those simpler days but then I don’t. Good times!

Almost all the top players used to post here. A lot of other commentators used to post here too.
So UltraDavid, James Chen, Valle, Duc Do, Khaos etc.
Sigh, its been mostly lost now for a bunch, but it used to be that you’d be made fun of relentlessly for dickriding players. Top players were just players that you could learn from. FGC was literally the opposite of Smash’s top player worship bullshit.
Eventually a lot of people got tired of dealing with dumbfucky people on SRK and blamed it on SRK being dumbfucky. Little did they know that its just FGC dudes are dumbfucky and the vast majority of them will say stupid shit regardless of platform (see character discords with wack takes, twitter and facebook). So SRK caught blame for a general community issue.
If you search the subforums for old games, you’ll find hella posts from OGs. Arturo Sanchez (Sabin) had a whole thread about going to Japan and playing SF4 there. He had the first post talking about Akuma’s Vortex.

I didn’t officially join until '11, even though I lurked since '09. So I missed out on a lot of stuff you guys are reminiscing about. I do remember thinking Kromo had some hilarious posts when I first got here though. Whatever happened to that guy?

Regardless of what everyone is saying about the randomness and carefree nature of the site what ultimately made it the best place to be back when i joined in 2005 were the fighting game discussions, SRK had no equal when it came to FG knowledge, nobody in the Internet could compete with them. I went and joined a bunch of sites before srk(neo geo.com,snk vs capcom, cyberfanatix, 1up… Lol,kof online etc). None of those could compare to the level of knowledgeable srk used to have if anything the internet have gotten better only because srk members decided to split and take their knowledge else where. Real fighting game discussion was born here.
