I have pretty strong feelings about a lot of this as someone who was kinda there for all of the good shit and am not just a 4chan groupie who came in for the drama / spectacle and forgot that that spectacle needs to be built on top of and come from a community.

What an abject and embarassing failure to understand what makes a community and more importantly SRK excellent and useful. That’s the fucking failure of modern SRK in a nutshell. The actual player OGs came to SRK for the games first, not because they were hoping to flame some noobs or worse yet hoping that somebody else would flame those noobs and they could then just bask in the warmth. You flamed the noobs because they got in your way, not because fucking with idiots was your only purpose in life.

But yeah sure, NOW we’re on some 4chan shit. I don’t even know what phrase is supposed to be but its hilarious to think that SRK slowed down because of GD…who was suddenly on some 4chan shit after 11-12.
Hell the top players leaving had fuck all to do with GD and all to do with not wanting to deal with scrubs in the forums.
Y’all remember that studio traffic and when top players ran hustles on SRKers? Because I heard those stories too.

GD had fuck all to do with top players getting tired of hearing shitty players tell them shit in the game subforums.
Secondly all the behavior people took issue with in SRK happen in Discord/Facebook/Twitter.
The only difference is that the top players can close their circle better as opposed to being in a forum where everybody is at.
The scrubby shit is actually worse out in the open because they don’t get clowned on.

When I first moved back to Seattle Super IV has just dropped. I met up with an old MvC2 bro I use to run with and we did MvC2 sets before the Super IV tournament we were both attending started.
The SFIV players complained to the venue that my friend and I were being too loud while playing. My friend caught me in short short > rocket punch > snap back and got the assist skill. So we were yelling “SCRAPE” and then cheered when he killed my Psylocke. Lol we were also yelling a lot through out the sets.
We hadn’t seen each other in over 6 years so we were hype as shit. Lol

That one place a lot of people loved, missed and was hoping would come back?
That’s great. Your friends eventually decided that the front page of the site was more important than the forums. this is also a group of people who refused to listen to forum users when they complained about issues for years and then unceremoniously decided to close down the forums by announcing it on twitter.
Then somehow GD is responsible for the whole site going down when GD users barely left GD because they knew wild shit didn’t fly in the rest of the forums. But yeah sure, GD destroyed everything.
So what we’ve learned so far is that even though SRK opened up in 2001 and 4chan in 2003, SRK was really 4chan the whole time. Then it destroyed everything after people got tired of dealing with dudes in game subforums because GD users just went rampaging into the MvC3 and SF4 subforums like the monsters they are. Then they killed things further with SF5 because GD is all consuming.
Alright then.
