Yeah, frustrated and beat a good akuma at the arcades earlier with the application of s.lp and all the other stuff ive learned so far regarding the match (like blocking proper lol)… its damn satisfying especially against an opponent you know is good and not some scrub… then he switched to his A sagat and pummelled me 6 times in a row… :(. I was surprised to get caught by a cross up tiger knee on my wakeup ( i dont have plenty of sagat experience…)
is there a way to spark offense on a safe ken? safe as in doesnt throw out random DP’s or spam too much of one move
wat is ken’s weakness? i make sure he cant do fireballs without fearing for his life but still, add in EX cross up tatsus and all that i usually find myself losing the round without knowing how to get back in it
Put pressure on him before he puts pressure on you. Bait things out and note the tendencies. For example, if he’s just holding up to escape your tick command throws, FS him or roll and do a normal throw. What you want to do is keep him on the ground once you get a knockdown. I don’t like saying that Ken has a weakness, but your normals have better priority over Ken’s, specifically s.lk, and if he starts throwing out s./c.strong to beat out your short, then you can just dash TT. And once you control the ground game, it’s very easy to control the air. c.mk beats out all his jump-in options IIRC. He might start to be flustered and thats when you can go back to using TT safely.
I agree though, Ken’s rushdown is pretty lethal considering he has a nasty safe-jump in option select after a kara throw and DP, and it’s hard to comeback. If this is offline play, talk to your opponent and ask if you can experiment or whatever. If you have a long session with one character, it really helps clear things up in the matchup since you would constantly be experimenting things to counter whatever he’s throwing at you.
something im wondering… my usual sparring partner is a good boxer(way better than me) and i noticed one thing, usually i can j.mk cross him up for free on wakeup (though i occasionally eat a headbutt from mistiming my j.mk , that or he can do the armored rush punch to get away), i noticed that almost 99% in the corner whenever i try to j.mk cross him up on wakeup, I will always get reversal’d headbutt… is the timing different? is it really the corner or just my execution/timing?
I think its a timing thing, crossup MK beats headbutts when properly timed.
In the corner I also always get hit
/
When Akuma has you in the corner and does option select demon flip throw/ srk what are your options? If you back dash you get srk’d neutral jump you get srk’d roll you get thrown
If you’re getting hit by a headbutt when you crossup, it means your crossup is too deep. Same goes with Guile’s FK.

Yeah… limited options there, buddy.
I’ll remember this! Thanks!
Got taken apart by a really good gen the other night, for the life of me i could not regain a decent spacing once he started his offense. Had already read the match up advice for him which led me to landing a few wheel kicks to gain the knockdown and get some pressure on him. Rest of the time i had to just get knock downs the conventional ways which was rather tricky!
Sadly knockdowns were short lived as he would EX oga, backdash, or simply auto correct DP me to regain control. Obviously i tried mix up my crossups/ambiguous rolls after i felt he had them worked out but i felt no pressure = advantage gen (did not feel safe to sit there and block him all day till i get a opening like akuma)
Could not anti air him to save my life as i could not get to the correct spacing to do so, which lead to lots of his hands combo loops ripping my hp down. On the plus side a few fadc xx cr hp xx FS from whatever hit confirm i got to land ruined his small hp pool. Ultra really put him in the hurt locker i just felt i could not keep the flow in my favour Any advice would be grand i did take games some off him but he was all over me for the majority
Can anyone elaborate on the Abel Vs Claw match up? He flips out of my pressure and zones with cr.mp and st.hk
cross him up all day everyday (one of the few matchups where you can afford to j.mk crossup for free, even when he has meter )… build meter and make good use of ex CoD/TT… once you’re in you are set for some serious damage but be careful when he has meter… as for the backflips, besides j.mk crossups, if you think he’s going to do that you can tag him with a cod/wheel kick or dash along and get a throw/TT/whatever combo…
its easier said than done i know, but this match favors abel more than claw, and with abel’s larger health pool, you can afford to eat more hits from him…
learning from high level play… patience is also one of the important points in winning a match … i dont have patience…
Abel runs over Vega so bad its ridiculous. Vega has to play the matchup in an extremely lame manner… it basically boils down to him running all the way to one side of the screen, waiting to get over your head, then running all the way back to the other wall. If I lose, its because I got impatient.
Use st.lk because Vega’s pokes are shit. Be careful because his dh+rh punishes whiffed anything big time and that is an advantage-on-block move that sets up a 240 damage combo into scarlet terror, so some Vegas like to just throw it out there and then mix up throw, low short, neutral jump type stuff. You can punish it with reversal standing close fierce sometimes. If he whiffs the df+rh, it has a lot of recovery, so hit him with F+MK combos. I use a lot of c.mk buffered CoD in his matchup too because Vega can’t punish a blocked strong CoD unless he’s gdlk and can reversal throw you perfectly. His pokes don’t crouch the c.mk so I throw it out every once and awhile and hope he runs into it.
EX CoD is good until Vega starts using a lot of his standing roundhouse, which is a pretty sick move. Destroys armor. You can’t focus against Vega because of his roundhouse and also because he can just sit there and use EX wall dive to punish your dash out of focus. Most of his pokes are too fast to catch with Abel’s focus anyway.
If he does Rolling Crystal Flash, you can’t ultra the ball portion because he hits you out of it. But, it doesn’t always make a block string… mash EX CoD or ultra through it and you can interrupt it before the last hit sometimes. Vega can FADC out of RCF to make it safer vs. mashing
Vs. most Vegas I don’t even commit to big damage moves unless I’ve made him terrified of flipping. I do tons of the c.lk, c.lp, c.lp, c.lp, s.mp combo on him, jab into close strong, constantly ticking with normals. I punish back flips with CoD or a jump in CoD (for the long flip). His back dash is good so I use a lot of c.lk OS sweep on his wakeup.
A nice gimmick is you can dash under Vega on his wakeup. You can also put him in the corner almost any time after landing a c.fp by doing roundhouse roll into jab falling sky… do a hcb as you cross under Vega and tap jab as you stand up. Most Vegas in the corner will try to jump out or wall dive out… punish.
You can punish every single wall dive by rolling out then doing change of direction or ultra back towards Vega.
Vega does have some nasty shenanigans. If he knocks you down with sweep or izuna drop close to a wall, he can just do izuna drop on you over and over again. Abel is easy to hit with it because he’s big and tall. The only way out is a very carefully timed back dash. Very few Vegas are good enough to do this consistently enoguh to win though
yeah you can also lp super his rolling attack before that last hit.
i havent experienced that corner izuna drop shenanigans though…
Thanks a lot for that I was hoping that you would answer me because I remember you saying that your brother or someone has a good Vega
Does anyone have still have the link to the video for the dash under cross up?
Yeah I got caught with that izuna drop shenanigans today I was baffled

Can someone link video of a good Abel vs. Cammy match up that they know of? I’m having so much trouble in this matchup… I’ve read the match up theory on her but a video would be nice. My local Cammy his hella good and whooping my butt :crybaby:
probably more suited to the match videos thread, but there’s a video on youtube rico vs. sanford, you can look that up
Well this is match up theory but I’ll ask over there.
Didn’t Rico lose big time though? That won’t help much.
maybe instead of lookin for videos, how about you find out stuff about the matchup and contribute to the threads :))
im not sure ive seen video of a solid abel winning against a cammy, not saying its not possible, but as you know not everything is recorded and posted on youtube…
plus since you said your local cammy is so good, maybe you can discuss the matchup with him instead, thats better imo.
still, good luck (both vs cammy and lookin for vids)
I have talked about it with him, and looked all through this thread. Its not that I don’t know what I need to do, I was just wondering about a video that was good, thats all.
