Blanka 5-5? I’m not sure I follow you. What does Blanka have that stops Abel from simply walking him into the corner? He can’t jump, he can’t chip you with blanka balls safely, and Abel has a reliable answer to pretty much anything Blanka sticks out. Outside of wacky shenanigans on knockdown, I don’t see how a Blanka can take this match without Abel making some serious mistakes. I’d call that at least 6-4.
“at least” 6-4? No. Its closer to 5-5 than it is to 6-4. If Blanka has a life lead, there is almost no way to catch him.
This is what I think after playing some really good Blankas they can keep you out well if they use their pokes properly and when you do manage to get them to the corne theyr EX upball straight out (is there anyway to stop this?)
you can do short OS standing close fierce… stuffs rainbow ball no problem.
Is it just bad in general to go for AA options (c.mk, c.hp) against Rufus? I feel that Rufus can easily see those coming and adjust his dive kicks accordingly. Therefore, is it much better to just sit there and block, and, go air-to-air with him with j.hp? I don’t have much Rufus experience, but I have played against Abels with my Rufus. As much as I feel that I should have a better grasp around this mat chup, I don’t. lol. Also, dive kick pressure is scary, but does does s.mk (non step kick) work too (instead of s.hp)?
EDIT: I just played a Rufus on XBL, but it was only a decent one, so fishing for AAs to use was easier said than done. The reason I ask why if it’s a bad idea is because watching match videos, lots of Abel players get punished easily when they mistime their AA.
Rufus’s jump is too unpredictable and it is easy for him to aim it around your slow AAs. I barely ever land the elbow or c.mk. Usually I try and get his jumps early with standing far forward and then hit the ones that get close to me with standing close fierce. Jumping fierce is a really good option too, once and awhile… if you get too predictable with it we all know what happens. If I don’t have an AA to cover that angle and I didn’t go air to air with him, I roll out…
Hm. I don’t like using standing far forward unless he’s dive kicking after another dive kick (in this case, you use standing close fierce) because I think it gets eaten by his j.hp and maybe even his j.hk (not too sure). I guess I’ll experiment more against Rufus’ dive kick pressure. The good thing about fishing with c.mk is that it stuffs his roll kick, or df.mk, and his c.hp, but, it doesn’t always catch his dive kick.
far s.mk is really effective but some of the good rufus ive played rarely jumped from that distance… they use more footsies against abel.
and like sakeido said, rolling can also be one of the better options, can even set up for a f.mk pressure/punish if done at the right time.
Explain…
wait, rainbow ball and upball aint the same, right? since he was talking about upball not rainbow ball.
a runaway ex upball is really safe except maybe if you predicted it and in range/prepared to punish its recovery.
or you can get hit/block the ball and punish accordingly.
blanka is an annoying matchup but i still think its in abel’s favor 5.5-4.5… maybe it can get to 5-5 depends on who’s getting the life lead and first knockdown. teching throws are extra crucial in this matchup too.
my 2 cent lol
I disagree. It is deffinetely a solid 6-4 or better imo, even if blanka has a life lead he has nothing to deter you from walking his ass to the corner. Blanka in corner = GG
alright so he’s in the corner. then what? he has a bunch of ways out of it and there is no way of covering all of them at the same time. poking with his sweep is a good one, does fierce ball all the way back to midstage before you get back up. Walk him back to the other corner? and I don’t even see where that comes from. Blanka has all the pokes he needs to stand his ground, and he can never be jumped in on. He can pressure Abel when he wants just by being annoying with jabs, electricity, and then hop/roll mixups after a knockdown. You can punish ball, so what? He won’t do them because he doesn’t need them anyways.
Once he gets in the corner he’s not getting out, ever. Anything he does to try is easily punished. As for getting hit by sweep, st.lk > ALL HIS POKES, all of them. You could literally just walk forward and keep pressing st.lk and there is nothing he can do about it. Lets not forget about fwd.mk pressure as well.
I’ve played some very good turtle Blankas (Hydro comes to mind) and they can tell you the same. This matchup is just easy, sure blanka has shenanigans that could squeak him by, but in the long run if you keep your composure, Abel wins.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that once you have a life lead you can pretty much hold db for 99 secs without any problems at all. Blanka can’t do shit to get in, he has to take huge risks to start doing damage. Only way he can touch you is if you seriously fuck up.
there’s no way Blanka’s getting outta that corner. shits 6-4 easy. When Blanka gets meter, then it’s 5-5.
Walk him to corner, st short counter pokes every fucking thing.
You see rainbow ball, st fierce. Knocks him right back in.
Blanka’s only hope is like random sweep or hop grab. Or land random ultra should you hit too many buttons.
If he up balls out, you have a million years to hit him with your supremely fast dash then sweep.
Heres a compiled list of some great vegas to fight against…let them know u added them from VEGAS LIST

my brother is the best Vega I’ve ever seen, outside of Japan, and he’s not on the list…?
Ur brother is good with vega but I really don’t think he’s the BEST.
Tatsu = #1 vega imo, dude places everywhere he enters. Upset after upset, guy is a fucking beast.
You know… they removed Join Dates from forum posts, but I can still spot an '09er a mile away…
lol i stopped reading at “our race”
I got raped by him last time I went to AI. And it sucks because you can’t really train against Vega because there is no other good Vegas around.
