Yeah, there’s a lot of thinking involved in that matchup. He used to eat TTs until I told him how to avoid them, heh. Sadly, I gave him more of a match with my subpar Rufus. =[ Now that I think back though, I was doing some really bad mistakes (focusing for no real reason, unable to tech kara throws, and trying to mash tech when he can hear me and force me to whiff a grab) and my excuse would be that I was tired.
Ill add it to my shit, I got some more stuff to add also XD
Hmmm, unless its a cross up Im pretty sure you can EX TT Ken’s meaty j.lk, I’ll test it out later
I have alot of experience vs guile and honda, i can make a pretty detailed writeup of those matchups if necessary.
Thank you for all the hard works inputting, RagingStormX & resres.
And yes! Please Strider! It would be greatly appreciated!
Not unless it’s timed correctly. I played more than 50 matches with this Ken and I’ve had little success doing it when he does j.lp. The only time I’ve gotten him is when he mistimed it or when he goes for cr.lk right after. I mean, I’ll verify it when we play again,
I mean using EX TT as anti air vs j.lk if its meaty
Oops, I meant j.lk. This is on Abel’s wakeup. I mean, feel free to test it. I might be wrong.
I’ll try to record my matches next time around to give some visual evidence of what I’m talking about.
Tell me the set up on how he uses it and I’ll test it, cause most deep jump ins lose to EX TT.
IIRC correctly you are right about the deep jump ins losing to EX TT.
I thought the same thing.
Anyways, to set it up I guess you can just do a shoryu or throw, then do a jump in meaty lk and straight to cr.lp or cr.lk. I don’t know how he times it, so I guess you can try some differeint timings with the j.lk. I tried replicating it myself but I was doing the EX TT so I don’t think I was doing it correctly in training mode. Either I was really tired in my execution playing that Ken and was just seeing things, or there really is a safe way to land that meaty… hm =/
Updated Gouken, Guile, Ken.
I played a pretty tense Ken match in a tournament this week. I didn’t know the matchup too well, other than knowing that I hate every single thing Ken can do with the MK button, but that description is more or less how it went down.
I would add that Jab TT is a good answer for a predicted kara throw, but it’s a big risk too, so be sure before you stick it out.
Once I had him thinking I was in his head with a couple of well-guessed Jab TTs against some pretty obvious kara setups and a couple of well guessed EX TTs against some F+MK rubbish, he was much less liberal with the auto-footsies and it made finding a way in on the ground much easier.
Also crossups against his wakeup aren’t an awful idea from what I’ve experienced, but I’ve heard people say that he’s the hardest shoto to safely cross up. Would be nice if somebody with some solid experience in this matchup could confirm.
Anybody get wrecked by Ed Ma lately?
crossup ryu/ken/gouki and you’re gonna eat a srk(its really hard to make them whiff it during crossup… its possible though i guess)… although gouki most of the times will just teleport lol
It’s good to know that I’m not the only one having trouble against good Kens.
I think I said it somewhere in my post, but Ken’s f.mk, if not properly spaced (watch the animation, if the more than the foot goes into your body), you can usually punish it with TT. They’re constantly going to put pressure so you won’t see a neutral jump here, and more likely they’re going to try and do a BnB, so TT works. Ken’s c.mk surprisingly has terrible recovery if it’s whiffed. I don’t see it whiff on Abel as much as other characters (Sagat, etc.), but you can look to punish it with something. I haven’t seen it happen to me lately, but my friend said I should be able to even sweep. hrm. Another thing I noticed, the AA c.hp works pretty well if you note when he’s going to switch his ground game up to his air game since you’ll occasionally see him try to do a EX tatsu/tatsu crossup. Heh, Dr. Chaos. I’ve played Mr. KOF at AI a couple of times. My friend believes he’s better than both… but my friend doesn’t know the matchups as well as they do. =p
Good stuff on Guile and Gouken. The Guile that I normally play with plays more aggressive than the usual turtle-type Guile. I guess one thing you can add is that his EX sonic boom has a lot of recovery so timing an Ultra is waaay easier, just make sure you’re at least 3/4ths the screen away.
What? You can easily crossup a shoto on their wake up and not eat a shoryu. There’s spacing and timing that guarantees you’ll counter-hit them out of it if they try it. That said, I’m told that isn’t the case with Ken but I’ve never had the problem, hence my question.
lol yeah my bad, i was thinking of only crossing up after a TT, which is hard/almost impossible to do. totally ignored other scenarios
Thank you Hav for the new update!!
Does anybody ever punish a blocked Cannon Spike with HP CoD (early so it juggles) -> EX FS? I used to just punish with the full CoD but that leaves them the other side of the screen, and I find the timing on dash -> TT a little trickier.
I was also wondering if using a roll to predict an Akuma teleport on his wake up works at all? Maybe using the EX roll since it’s faster? I wanted to do some testing myself but my xbox RRoD.
I roll on Akuma wake-up. I think it’s one of Abel’s best options.
Anyway, I was scouring some other forums, and gasp, I actually found something worth using, so… YOINK!
