chicken wing loses to standing close fierce and gives you an air reset. first hit whiffs, second hit lands as his invincibility wears off on all versions
if you think he is going to chicken wing, stick out a jab. if it hits, keep up pressure, if it misses, short roll right away and you will get out of CW… punish with ultra only it seems though, although short wheel kick might work
EX change of direction is worthless in this match
tornado throw is almost worthless, use EX TT to catch rekkas but otherwise the risk vs. reward for trying a TT is too high because of how chicken wing will mess your shit up
Fei has a very fast overhead on your wakeup with jump forward strong but you can punish him on the way back down
use a lot of standing far lk and strong to control space
some Gouken stuff
demon flips are very difficult to anti-air, his dive kick has such a big pause on startup, sticks down and approaches from such an awkward angle it stuffs c.fp and usually c.mk too. stand fierce?
demon flip throw loses to falling sky
do not jump straight up to avoid demon flip throw because he can ultra or tatsu on your way back down. there is no recovery on his throw so if you back dash, he will punish with something like EX palm
do not backdash dive kicks, the kick is very meaty and punishes them and even if you do get away, he has a number of easy options to keep up the pressure
Gouken has the trickiest overhead of all time, his air tatsu done low to the ground has to be blocked high for every hit. Knocks down on hit, does a lot of damage, and if you have to block it, it does 120+ chip damage. You can anti-air with standing close fierce but there are setups for it that can’t be escaped without EX roll
EX demon flip is Gouken’s best wake up option. loses to jump back fierce, but if he anticipates that he can punish your jump back fierce with something from the ground.
there is still a lot to figure out. I only got to play this guy’s Fei a few times because it was such a one sided beasting he would switch back to Seth to make things fair
other stuff…
in the middle of a rekka mash standing strong or tornado throw. If he stops to try and reset with EX tenshin, you will hit him out of it. If he can get the reset on you, he will get a massive amount of damage & stun. I would say mash fierce, but sometimes he will be too far away and you will get standing far fierce instead… 12 frames startup vs. 5 for strong
he can fake a cross-up by jumping in with strong instead of forward. The same jump arc that would cross you up with forward will hit you in front with strong
on a blocked jab from Fei, you can’t jump out if he cancels into rekka and will eat the whole combo. There is a gap here where you can throw out an EX TT
I don’t know if this has been discussed because I haven’t seen it used. If you block Blanka’s ultra and at the same time when you could falling sky him, you can c.fp>>ultra him instead. I did it first try in training mode so it is pretty easy to do and I haven’t seen an Abel do it so I figured I would post it.
Great find! I used to try to do dash in c.HP to ultra but that was unreliable and doing a c.mp into ultra is a waste of 2 bars.
I was trying to walk under Akuma’s dp kick (dp+k) on Sat but couldn’t pull it off. I asked my Akuma friend and he said that it was because he was using c.lk, c.lp, c.mp, dp+K. In order words, the string spaced Akuma far enough from Abel that Abel’s walk is too slow to go under. Abel can still walk under a c.mp, dp+k poke string though. Gonna try out Abel’s rolls vs his dive kick after work.
I posted about punishing Chun Li’s instand overhead a week ago and apparently the information was reproduced on the Chun Li thread and my Chun friend who I wanted to surprise found out about it and started using a lot of hazanshu’s on wake up instead before telling me that he had counter intelligence.
Does this work at any point where she’s considered airborne? I ask because the fierce hooligan travels fairly low to the ground on startup and before the slide/throw.
sorry to be an ass but the cr.hp ultra after a blocked blanka’s ultra is super-ancient info… this thread is turnin into the old thread… bait thread failz.
Calm down chief I started playing Abel a week ago and wondered about the c.fp>>ultra after seeing juicebox FS a blanka after ultra. Excuse me for not knowing everything about a character I’ve been playing a week and offering what little I know.
Haha should include that in the first post at the very top.
Just wondering HAV, any stuff in the works for the rufus matchup? I’ve fought a decent rufus a few days back and i noticed he beats my jumping crossup attempt(not on wake up though) with a standing punch(seems like either lp/mp - sorry i dont know much about rufus) which kinda resets me in the air.
I need to start jotting shit down whenever I’m down at the arcades… I know I can contribute in some ways lol…
Yeah, i know its been mentioned you can medium heavy kick roll and ultra if a rufus does a wake up ex messiah, but er, you can just jump over them instead, then ultra, ha. its funny.
Not sure if wake up ex messiah is a scrubby thing to do though, you probably know better than me hfz! ^
lol, theres a bunch of things you dont see people do in videos. not everything is captured on film. why juicebox did falling sky in the video was because it was the easiest option that was garunteed to win him the round. and that general rule of thumb i agree, or post in the other strategy/match up thread. its cool your trying to help but we just dont want repeat info going on like crazy like the other match up thread. no hate here man, if you think some peeps are dicks or w/e you should know, your on srk… bunch of assholes. but yeah thats a good tactic and something everyone should know (and if you didnt you learned something new and thus giving you another option).
Vs blanka, if he activates ultra and isn’t point blank, u can backdash -> ex falling sky during the starting frames. Or if u are far enough you can just cr.fierce on the peak of his hop to land the juggle.
