Easy for you to say when you don’t play in any tournaments.
I have enough experience in tournaments to not drop hit confirms that much, thank you very much. I’m pretty sure that I was not included in the topic, no there’s no reason for a comparison.
Hey airborne just noticed you are in Maximilin’s Online Warrior. Starts at 7:15
!
I know… :TEEHEE: I’m also the only win in the video! (They should totally have a teehee face on here, or anywhere for that matter)
Like I said, my Spidey didn’t do too much work because I dropped 2 or 3 vital hits due to being out of range LOL. Vajra didn’t seem to be much of a problem though; Jam Session was more of a burden.
first match
33:24
58:56 for me getting scraped, please tell me what to do
I only watched the second set.
The first thing I noticed was the first air grab combo you got in the beginning of the match. If you know you aren’t going to kill the char you have to perform a combo that sets up into a reset. You just kind of combo’d him and let it go back to neutral. If anything with the combo you did you could have just did another web throw out of the corner and followed up with an airdash zipline and read the tech to either go for a run under, srk, etc.
Also when you were cornered against wolverine you had plenty of opportunities to SJ out and fly away. You can’t let a char like wolverine bully you so much in the corner. Run away and reposition yourself, no need to try and fight your way out of the corner when you don’t have to. All you really need to worry about is corner pressure jam sessions but he wasn’t properly spacing them in the corner anyways.
Against wolverine in general especially with that guys assist you have no reason to rush down as much as you did. Lay back shoot full screen webthrows and call assists. Spiderman pretty much dominates the horizontal plane full screen so he would be forced to slowly pressure you to the corner via normal jumps. If he corners you jump out and rinse and repeat until he gets desperate from chip dmg and tries something crazy, you land a random WT, or if you can predict his dash patterns dash out yourself and keep him in check with a random c.L. Also if he’s just going to jump up and do random dive kicks with no assist just space a c.H. You were giving him too much respect and he pretty much did whatever he wanted. Don’t be afraid to stick to the ground with spiderman I noticed you had a habit of always approaching via AD/ziplines. He has a fast dash utilize it more and keep your angle of approach varied.
Also it just may be a team thing but you have no practical way of comboing 2 chars with that order. I guess it just may be something you have to work around but in a game like this that is extremely debilitating.
I don’t know how to use your other characters so you can’t say much about them… More footdives perhaps?
*** just watched your first set is that Chobo guy a bigger chinese asian kid who works out a lot and plays a lot of SC2?
average sized chinese asian kid. i think he was from killeen? i don’t know though.
thanks for the tips. solid advice. i had been playing a more ground based game before this tournament, and decided to go in the air too much for my first 2 matches and just didn’t deal with wolverine properly.
the happy birthday situation is precarious, i know. i do have an option from the middle of the stage facing the corner + closer, with double webswing into spider sting + spider sting crawler assault, i just wasn’t confident that i’d make it to the corner / not confident in my execution to pull it off at that point + didn’t know when to DHC to sphere flame early if they fell out behind me.
ps danke is a scrub
Was typing this and then I had another freakin’ epiphany. At the end of the double web swing combo, if you don’t believe you’ll reach the corner in time for the Crawler Assault, raw tag after the :h: Spider Sting~:h: into a character with an OTG hyper. In your case, Phantasy, it would be Taskmaster because I am sadly not able to get efficient damage off of Photon Array, due to not be able to get close enough.
Here’s the combo notation though:
(j.:s: or c.:l: or whatever starter that doesn’t use a ground bounce) c. c.:h: xx :l: Web Swing j.:h: j.:s: land st. st.:h: xx :h: Web Swing j. j. j.:s: st. st.:h: xx :h: Spider Sting~:h: land Raw Tag to Taskmaster TK :l: + :h: Legion Arrows XFC :l: + :h: Legion Arrows
If you manage to open the opponent up with Spider Sting~:h:, you wanna attempt to combo into a second Spider Sting as late as possible, then cancel into Crawler Assault and immediately DHC into Sphere Flame or something. Idk, that’ll require you to do some experimentation on your own time, since you can’t simply just pop the good ol’ THC buttons after a hard knockdown.
The above happy birthday idea works with a vast majority of the cast, but just be sure that the character you raw tag into has an OTG that hits both characters.
Fun fact: you can get the hard drive loop with Sentinel by raw tagging from Spidey.
yep thought about it. crawler assault to sphere flame likely will work well enough i believe, the meter build on hbd’s will be helpful.
if you have Spidey and Doom on the same team you can do a simple bnb (keep it short) with Spidey -> DP -> Spider-Bite then hard-tag into Doom during the ground bounce and continue with OTG (s. H) into Doom’s BnB/loop (OTG -> S -> a. M -> a.M -> a. towards H -> S etc). it does okay damage to the assist character and you dont need Doom in a specific position since its a hard-tag and you can choose what ever character to come out.
that’s too situational for happy b-days. Doom can come out and hit them while they are bouncing, come out and be too far, or come out and be just right. It all depends on where you tag in relation to the camera position midscreen.
footdive actually usually only hits 1 opponent
true, in that case finger lasers would be the better option after the double Ms, and if ur really desperate to kill the assist u could just x-factor to a 2nd finger lasers. in the case of this set up being very situational, during the Spidey bnb you could try out a web swing to try to carry them closer to the corner where the Doom Hard tag would be more successful.
next time i have the chance ill practise these happy birthday combos in the lab because i have successfully done these combos in an offline situation but ill admit, its not very often i have been in the situation so i cant guarantee the success rate of this combo.
I’ve actually incorporated a hard tag into my bnb, so it’s not that situational. As long as you do a web swing series before the spider sting, the hard tag should not hit them on the way in (and still rarely hits in other situations, it’s usually not fast enough to catch the bounce). The only exception to this rule I’ve found is Tron, she gets hit no matter what you do. Sentinel,Nemesis, and Modok get hit often if you’re not in the corner. Unless your back is to the corner the moment you do spider sting, it’s a pretty safe bet, and guaranteed for mid/short characters. (Done with Dante coming in, Doom’s hitbox may change things)
Anyone mess with team hypers for happy birthday situations? I know Ironman helped alot in that department back when I used him in vanilla.
I noticed that using :h: Spider Sting and performing the Spider Bite sooner increases the chance that you’ll raw tag without hitting the ground bouncing opponent. It really sucks for characters like Iron Man, who stick their foot wayyyyyyyyyyyy out in front of him and almost always connect with the raw tag hit. =\ Even when you Spider Sting them in the corner!
Just like how having an OTG assist was vital in Vanilla for air throw purposes, I believe having an OTG hyper (at least one that you can raw tag into for those midscreen happy birthdays, although having an OTG for THC purposes is highly preferred for maximum damage off of Spider Sting Happy Birthdays), or even an OTG assist that will pick two characters up, seems to be vital in Ultimate. The only issue is that a majority of the strong OTG hypers either pick the opponent(s) up too high above the ground or carry them off to the other side of screen.
The strongest THC hypers would most likely be:
Storm
Frank
Chris
Hulk (Anti-Air Gamma Charge assist gives you Gamma Quake, and I assume you have enough time to get that to land if you backdash with Spidey)
Strange (Maybe)
Firbrand (Maybe)
Haggar (Maybe)
Magneto’s doesn’t work too well because when done midscreen, Shockwave carries them all the way to the other side way before Spidey can get there, thus only allowing a couple hits of CA to connect. When done in the corner, you barely get any damage, so it only seems efficient to do so off of a happy brthday that starts with Spider Sting.
This is just stuff coming off the top of my head, so I may actually look into making a video this weekend that demonstrates all of the possible team combinations that allow happy birthday kills off of that Spider Sting pickup.
If you ever see him again ask him about brood war and if he was on a team called NeX if yes tell him a called him a scrub. If no you can still tell him I called him a scrub.
 shit just got real!!!

hah, online
You’re running too much and not punishing enough.
Ok after watching some more I can say you are running way too much. You are playing right into Morrigan’s game but trying to web throw her when she’s spamming soul fists. This guys Morrigan isn’t that strong. He’s leaving his Doom wide open when he calls him and allowing you all the horizontal room in the world to advance on him when he super jumps and tries to spam you. Once Morrigan gets to spam the horizontal space super jump and be patient don’t use all your mobility so quickly. Lastly as far as approach goes don’t zip so much to try and get in. It is possible to punish Spidey for repeatedly doing so but when you do come in with j:h: instead of j:s: more hit stun to allow more followup even from super jump height.
