Hahaha during the entire stream i was just thinking of how to use log trap with spidey and that’s the first thing I did after pugling the game. You can do a ghetto version of ageojoe’s strategy with jumping and webzip to call the log at sj height.

I think the closest thing that Spidey can do is normal jump H Web Ball XX df Web zip + call assist

H Web ball pushes up Spidey a lot, allowing you to web zip much higher (you can cancel the web ball before the web ball actually comes out so you get the web zip faster, but with the additional height). This is important because the key to Kusoru’s set up isn’t just the invisible assist- it’s the fact that by diving down from such a high height while calling an assist, Kusoru creates a giant triangle on the screen where the opponent cannot press buttons without running the risk of getting hit by an assist from behind.

That’s why the H Web Ball is good for this- by pushing Spidey high in the air, it allows Spidey to control a similarly big chunk of the screen as he comes down.

However, there’s one problem here- Web zip > jump attack isn’t nearly as high priority as Red Hot Kick, so a well timed horizontal air dash attack can hit both Spidey and the assist. I find that the best solution to this is to block as Spidey zips, then press f+H at the very last moment to OS against air throws.

By and by, I think Log trap is being overrated a little here. If Kusoru was using Sentinel assist while doing the same set up, it would be also be very good.

Great post overall but i don’t agree with this. While he’d still be able to cover sent in most cases, a huge part of the benefit of racoon’s assist is that it simply won’t be tagged because he’s so small…sent drones would have just gone away most of the time due to being hit by projectiles or sword normals on screen. Also i think drones and log work differently…when you manage to get drones out you can go crazy on high/low mixups for 2-3 secs, whereas log is kinda of that thing where you’re stilll playing a keepaway game and you just don’t see it coming, it’s closer to beam+teleport mixups imo.

if i didn’t personally get bodied by that log last week at casuals i wouldn’t be a believer. it’s good.

You can use pendulum to set up the Kara Sting web throw crap in the corner, so I’d say it’s pretty damn good.

More like one of the better assists in the game because of the massive air control it provides.

Been riding that japan dick right now and i gotta say mamespider’s on to something with his play. Granted these vids are pre-final round but I can see the joe runaway similarities with the matches below. Thoughts:
-use of the wall jump to get to super jump height, he now has more attack options now that webzip has not been used up yet. You can attack diagonally down or go up even higher and harass with assists.
-runaway and spacing, plays conservatively, and still able to harass considering his assists only cover the horizontal ground, I wanna say this style would work with doom missiles, but when your opponent is chasing you on the ground, they can easily stuff the start up of missiles, then again you can have both missiles and a horizontal assist
-his loss against chou shows the weakness of this strategy though, characters with the ability to consistently catch and chase spiderman will give this strategy problems, i think any team with strider, dormammu, magneto, storm, iron man, nova, sentinel or basically anyone who has good air attacks paired with good air mobility will give it problems

Thanks for the links. He’s good. Could use better combos but his movement is really really good. Gotta work on my mentality like this spider.

watching mamespider play makes me realize that the only time i do walljumps are by accident when i jump back and try to upforward zip lol

How are walljumps even useful. I never use them in any game they’re in.

Cling + zip is one of few ways to call an assist from higher than normal jump height. Fun to use with log trap.

And create a larger chance for the combo to drop? The easier an effective combo in tournament games the better I say.

that’s fine but he even dropped some of his combos in the set. it’s sort of telling to a person like me who has spent too much time worrying about combo practicality that mamespider in these videos is going to go for early spider sting when he gets anti air combos.unfortunately he still dropped some things.

i personally go for early web throw combos off anti air hits if possible (sLMH into M webthrow if anti air works nicely), otherwise i will also be using spider sting but follow up with a web throw, and i’m pretty good at hitting the early webswing jmms sH l webthrow starter and easy version finisher off ground confirms. i’m just not as good as opening people up, or being patient, or moving as mamespider.

Understatements are understated. Dude seriously needs to slow down and work off of those hit confirms.
