Thinking of picking up BB

Hey guys.
Ok so I’m thinking of picking up BB. I know NOTHING about the series but it seems to me like there’s a million of em out. Which one should I pick up?

The newest release is Blazblue: Continuum Shift Extend. You can find it for $40 new.

It’s a particularly great value if you haven’t played the previous two versions.

Aah I see, so its like a “super” or “ultimate” version? Ok cool.
I’ve heard its a hard game. Just how hard are we talking? I’m mainly an MK9 player but I’ve been playing way more SFxT recently. I play the other SF’s and I enjoy them but I suck at them cos I’m no good with links. Would you say its harder and/or more complicated than KOFVIII?

Continuum Shift was a “sequel” to Calamity Trigger. Continuum Shift Extend is like a “super” version of Continuum Shift.

I can’t compare it to KOF, as I’ve never played any of those games before. It’s difficult for me, just because it’s so different than SF games, which are the only ones I’ve really played a great deal of. It relies much less heavily on links than SF does, though, which is good. But yeah, I’d prepare for a steep learning curve, if for no other reason than the vastly different gameplay mechanics.

I’ll be honest, one of the things I love most about BB is the sheer wealth of single player content. It has a REAL story mode, with an interesting narrative and very high production values. I love the character designs, animations, music, really everything about BB. It’s a shame it’s not more popular in the states.

In that case I’ll definitely pick it up. People on here bitch about single player content as if its a burden for a game to have. But as much as I like playing online, a good story mode goes a long way too.
Cheers man

I don’t view BlazBlue as particularly hard - for a fighting game. It doesn’t (mostly) have outrageous joystick motions, and it doesn’t have any SF4 style one frame links where you need to practice for hours just to be able to reliably combo medium punch from light punch, but it does still have quite a bit in the way of execution you will need to be able to do - combos can be quite long and need to be executed quickly and with reasonable precision. Additionally, there is a wide variety of character specific mechanics - I’ve never encountered a game where learning one character teaches you so little about how to play another.

Relative to KOF, I’d say the games are similar - the mechanics are different, but you have roughly the same volume of systems you need to be aware of. I’m not really a KOF player though, so take this with a few grains of salt. Relative to MK, I think it’s going to be a little bit more executionally difficult, because MK definitely took a few steps to lower that bar (not that BlazBlue doesn’t, but they’re not as large, I guess.).

It’s a good time to get into BlazBlue - Extend is currently a very comprehensive package, at a fairly reasonable price. It packs more content than pretty much any other fighting game on the market right now, with an extensive story mode and the new ‘Abyss’ mode. There’s not really much DLC for it right now - just some different announcers - but there’s a bunch of unlockable stuff (Colors, other announcers, in particular) and all the characters are currently available from the get-go (I say “currently” because I expect there will be two DLC characters in the future, but that’s just me speculating.).

Give it a shot. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you like the way the game looks. If you’re not sure you like how the game looks, you should probably swing by, oh, maybe Jourdal’s channeland watch some videos. They’ll give you a pretty decent idea of what to expect things to ‘look’ like at mid-high levels of play.
