Things you've learned recently

this is one of the things I love so much about MVC2!

Found something with son son - only mention of it afaik is here

Son son can do a close dashing Hk and it will whiff - she breifly goes to the other side b4 retracting, so you can do dashing Hk - whiff - U ’ Cut cross up.
Bad news - works only on Psylocke, Rogue and morrigan IIRC.

Son son can do Down Mk, Hk whiff on people OUTSIDE the corner - tested this in DC training mode.
works on Akuma, Psyl’, Cammy, tron, morrigan, Jill, Guile, charlie, & storm - seems to work consisitently only when she’s on the left side of screen

also Jill + IM repulsor blast is a great way to set up resets
D + LK and IM assist, d + Mk, D + HP, call grabbing zombie, move forward, down Lk otg, down MP, opp. gets grabbed.

EDIT - Re above - after the zombie grabs you can follow up with j Lk, j MK, land dash down Lk and IM, down Mk, down HP, call zombie again as repulsor juggles, move under, d+ Lk otg. down Mp, zombie grabs again.

Here it is on Youtube. Combos done on DC

u can do that son son setup in the corner after you hit somone too. clk, cmk, s.fk crossupXXdildo combo

Another son son combo on commando.
Down Lk, Down Hk, Lp staff U’cut ( 1 hit) DF Hp ( links), into whatver
Can do DF Hp and gambit card, sj Lk, Hk, land, Hp, Hk, U’cut, staff super

im just now starting to learn unfly

Bumping this thread.
Gonna post some stuff later.

OK - there’s a few combos where you can call an assist inbetween a Heavy move and a special.
eg. Sentinel - Can fly (standing opp.), LK, Hk, then mag proj assist, RP, assist hits, letting you link another RP or Lk, mk, u/f Rocket punch
or, Down Hk, then mag proj, RP, RP again xx HSF ( juggles high), magneto tag in, down Lk, slide, IM tag in, GGPO

Cable can do (corner), jab, Hk, RP assist, qcf + Lk, crouching jab, Hk, AHVB, jumping jab follow up

Gambit can do down jab, Hk, cyke AA, LP cajun swipe, qcb + LP trick card, Down Hk, Lp cajun swipe … good damage, 50% or so

Also, some of the combos in my youtube vids require you to launch, pause, call assist, then sj
I’m gonna call it LPA. Not a new concept - Viscant posted it ages ago as the original follow up to the storm / sent DHC, and as a way to combo Anakaris curses from cyke Anti-air. No one really explored it - so here’s a few examples.

Sentinel benefits from it alot. So he can do Launch, pause, Strider bird, sj Lk, FF LK, HP, RP
also, Launch, pause, Ruby anchor, sj RP, Lk, RP, land, RP xx Plasma ball

Storm can do down Lp, Hk, pause, morrigan proj, sj Hp, df airdash Hp, Hk, assist hits, Launch, sj LA x 2 into lightning storm xx Darkness illusion.
100% on Cable

Morrigan can do Launch, pause, cyke assist, sj Hp, HP again, bullet hits, Darkness illusion - doesn’t link vs everyone
she can omit the darkness illusion and dash - the good part is she can dash forward and still be in front of the opponent.

hmm. There’s a posting delay happening. Thought I had lost all the above.

… Strider / sentinel midscreen DHC … 85% or so on Cyke
Strider - down jab plus drones, down Mp, launch, sj - dj Hp, Hp, last part of drones hits - breaking FS, standing Hp, frame cancel to HSF, spit, RP

In the corner - Strider can do Lp and drones, mp, mk, Hp, Ragnarok DHC to HSF as you see the 1P / 2P flash - lets you get HSF juggle, launch, corner combo … 100% with 2 meters. I’ll do a vid showing the timing as its hard to describe.
On some characters like psylocke you have to do LP, LK, Mp, Hp … and on cable you need to do Lp, Lk, mp, Mk, Hk to land the ragnarok.

More stuff -
Dhalsim can do Launch, sj Hk, airdash down forw. Launch again. Really tight timing - works best on commando. Thought it was corner only like on the SIM DVD but its possible midscreen.

First row of these pointers are to graphics.
The rest I don’t know, but some of it is to the collision data.

Although I no longer play this game vs players, I did make some discoveries on Dreamcast with this team. There may come a day when I start playing again, and that day is when I get the Hitbox.

How interesting and potentially deadly Hulk-b, Storm-y, Jin-b is. That’s my most recent discovery. If there happens to be 3 levels of meter lying around, and all 3 characters are alive the damage output for every character in the team is extremely high. We’re talking about so many ways to kill that it’s absurd. I now know how to deal with this team’s main weakness, the Doom-b assist. Now that that’s out of the way, If I choose to use this team, I can theoretically destroy the chemistry of nearly every team in the game. I’ll ignore the fact that you can’t call assists at all against this team if Jin-b is sitting in an assist ready state. You’ll just get it blasted away, and rushed down by Storm [putting you at risk of a snap XX helper infinite, or a DHC gamma crush kill combo].

I’m going to leave out a full write-up on this team since this is about recent discoveries.

=Jin-b
-Ducking hk, engage triple = dead assist from full in most cases

=Storm-y vs assists
-Alpha counter to Hulk-b XX gamma quake, jump lk,mk, either engage triple or gamma crush. If they guard push, gamma charge the assist, and do the same thing over again. That assist is dead.
-Sj, Air dash, lightning attack XX Lightning Storm XX Gamma Quake, rejump, lk, mk, activate crush or triple. Assist is dead.

I’m leaving out the best stuff for this team though. If you want the vast majority if that info, here it is.

Other random discoveries:

MM, Hulk-b, Jin-b [my main team before I changed to Blackheart]

Ducking hk with Jin-b or Megaman XX Triple team super = dead or near dead assist with high difficulty in punishing it.

More stuff from my compilation vid …
Omega red can do 2 coils midscreen ( toss df after a coil and link a jab) - its easiest on Collosus which is why you’ll see it on the various Meik’Soui vids.
It also can be done on Cable, Dr Doom?, Sentinel, Bison, O Red, and a few others - some are specific like Wolverine in the corner.
Its not something that can be done with a high % rate of success, just something that looks good in a vid.

Also, Cammy can do instant hooligans on people who crouch and are close enough. So crouching jab plus drones or bubble, Hooligan - bounce version - follow up after assist hits. Some characters crouch REALLY low so it won’t work ( Magneto, Psyl’, Omega red i think?).
Also, Cammy can link Down Hp, sj Hk, Qcf + K xx KBA DHC to HSF on first hit of her super and HSF will Juggle on the 2nd set. Good damage and no falling out of KBA problems.

This is more of an input device related thing, and its character specific effect on the game for Megaman. Arcade sticks aren’t the best input device to play MvC2 anymore. Stickless arcade controllers with SOCD cleaning are.

Left+Right= Neutral, and Down+Up = either Up or Last entered Command allow for faster dashes by entering Left-Right SOCDs, and having the device send neither due to the SOCD cleaning. This creates the SOCD dash, or SOCD cleaning dash. This can also be used to create the SOCD wavedash, or SOCD Cleaning Wavedash.

The SOCD cleaned fast dash and SOCD cleaned wave dash are done by taking advantage of the fact that Left-Right SOCDs are neutral [erased/dropped/unsent] inputs. This means that you get ground dashes that are a minimum of 2 frames with a maximum of 3, and down cancels of 1. By holding the direction you want to go, and while still doing so, tapping the way you don’t, you dash. If you start holding the way you want to go and start pianoing back and down, you can wave-dash.

You’re probably thinking "Whoopity-do, you can just button dash, but Megaman and Jill CANNOT do this while charging.

Imagine the startled look on a long time player’s face seeing a back wave-dash into buster XX Megaman on them and their assist at the same time. This really helps Megaman’s game.

SOCD’s are banned also you don’t want to know how many game crashing bugs I can do with one (not just this game either).

jedpossum, Anyone who knows me, or has read any of my posts knows that I don’t advocate any kind of cheating.

Obviously, I agree with you and am well aware that SOCDs are usually and justifiably banned. What I’m talking about is using fake SOCDs for “high speed neutrals”. This is done by entering real Left-Right SOCDs into a controller that has SOCD cleaning, so that the SOCD cleaner erases them both internally before sending them to the game console.

-Every SOCD in this case is being turned into a “neutral”, dropped, unsent command. So much for your comment.
-If you enter SOCDs into the device with it set up the way I described in this and or my previous post no signal is sent to the machine.
-Shoutouts to internal SOCD cleaning. Nice try though. It also proves that you didn’t read my post properly.

Here’s 2 perfect examples of what I’m talking about for Megaman and Jill.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Movement and Backdash Cancelling

SOCD FADC

"THIS USE" OF SOCDs IS LEGAL and FAIR. BACK + FORWARDS = NEUTRAL. NO REAL SOCDs ARE SENT TO THE GAME CONSOLE.

I’ll be nice and make it easier to spot in my previous post, but all this was already there long before I edited it.

jedpossum, You need to learn how to pay careful attention to what you are reading before you comment on it.

From now on, please read every post properly from anyone before commenting on it. When you don’t, you risk offending the other person while simultaneously making yourself look like an idiot.

Even with the cleaner I can crash a few games. Most emulators have it where 6+4 = no input.
SOCDs used to mean 6+4 = A in the input system which caused the state of auto block in Capcom Fighters(as it only in Capcom fighters this state occurs).

Fair enough, I’ll be nicer then.

1]Which games got crashed even with an SOCD Cleaner?
2]Besides MvC3, which games allowed for auto-blocking?
3]Is the Akishop PS360+ with internal SOCD Cleaning active capable of causing problems?

The kind of SOCD I’m talking about is a fake one, where you send a Left-Right SOCD manually knowing full well that the device will change it to a neutral before it even leaves the PCB, or SOCD Cleaner. In my case, it will be the Akishop PS360+. Example: You push down L,D,R, and the device only sends D.

tbh this conversation shouldn’t even be happening, as that control method is banned by just about anyone who plays seriously.

No real SOCDs are making it to the game’s system engine at any point as they are all being turned to the equivalent of not holding down anything that would be an SOCD. This elimination of SOCDs is being done by the controller’s PCB in the case of the device I’m planning to get [The Akishop PS360+ model Hitbox Arcade Controller].

I was recently in communication with people that enter tournaments with these things. I also checked with some tournament organizers in Toronto to make sure. These will actually be legal and used at Final Impact this month.

These devices are allowed at Evo, were allowed at Devastation [Reo won Mortal Kombat 9, making almost to the finals before breaking his Hitbox and having to changing to a stick…,], and many other majors. This year, they were allowed at dammed near every major in the USA. If the game’s system engine never sees an actual Left+Right, or Up+Down, it’s legal. Hell, at Evo, even if this WASN’T in place it would have been allowed anyways in some games [if normal pads could do it in the game it’s entered into like MvC3 Vanilla].

Both of you have missed the point so horribly that it’s beyond conception. As for you Hustleman, you just said something that could easily be viewed as highly inaccurate.

Please ask Mr. Wizard, who organizes Evo if you want an example of the rules he himself put in place for EVO regarding these all button controllers provided they erase SOCDs.

EDIT:
You’re right, this conversation shouldn’t be happening, but that is because of my accurate reasons, not your inaccurate at best statements. Let’s all get back on topic.

When hitboxes first got really popular I remember wondering what it would be like to do Sent refly stuff with it. If I understand the concept you can give yourself an instant neutral input (1 frame) by hitting L+R or U+D?

Nobody is even playing this game anymore so to me all this SOCD malarky is just interesting in that it would allow for some cheap shit like we used to theory mash here in the old days.

Here’s a part of me getting back on topic.

I’ve always thought that there was a gap between the orbital phase and the dispersal phase of Doom’s rocks. Turns out with my findings that I was partially correct. If the person’s point-blank there’s no gap. However, if they pushblock, aren’t point-blank, or you walk them out, then that can create a gap. Megaman for example, can make you block it point-blank, then dash forwards pushing you out of block-stun mid-way, and throw you before the rocks scatter. If you’re lucky, you’ll just feel like you were taunted. If unlucky, he combos you into a launcher off the rocks that have just been released [hard to time, but doable].
