Things That Annoy You About Fighting Games and the People that Play Them

Seth is in charge of game design for all external studios under the Sony Santa Monica banner. For PSAS, he was basically in charge of the team that balanced the game.

It’s not about “ruining” the game. It’s about using the version that’s used for competitive play (which in this case was the 990512 build). In any case, the 3SOE patch is supposed to bring that version (which is the closest any console has had to 990512) closer to it so this is all moot.

Xes seems to not like Mike for personal reasons from reading his posts here and comments on the front page.

when they try to make a game for the casual crowd. usually that means adding some insta combos, or something that gives bad players the upper hand after eating a lot of damage. Casual gamers dont give a fuck about fighting games so lets stop worring about them.

One more:

People who put “SRK” in their username/gamertags…I’m sorry but are you trying to scare me or tell me something? Are you trying to tell me that you frequently browse a website so now apparently you are one of them and know all these strategies/combos learned from the site and I must now beware of you?

With all due respect to Kusoru for what he accomplished at Final Round I personally saw his cheekiness on the stream rather disrespectful. I think a Japanese player coming in to a very Western dominated scene should be a lot humbler. Particularly in his matches against Yipes and Filipino Champ. I understand there’s a fair bit of room for having a go at your foes every now and again but I personally don’t like seeing that in matches at that level.

Something about the games themselves, I don’t like how easy it is to make a comeback, I’m sure that’s been mentioned. Depending on the anchor, it can actually be worse to have two or three characters at middle health when your opponent has Level 3 X-Factor on a full character. When it comes to Ultra combos, I have to be afraid of how I’m really close to winning but then I’m forced to change my playstyle because my opponent is waiting to use the Siberian Blizzard or something.

I wish online play was as perfect as offline play is.

In my opinion out of the games I’ve played I would say the current iteration of Virtua Fighter is the closest thing to a perfect modern game out right now.

  1. who doesn’t want unblockables in OE? is there a crowd demanding a “dreamcast perfect” port?
  2. what does that have to do with an OE rebalance being a false rumor?

Blah blah blah it is important for the scene blah blah blah blah it shows that people respect it even though there is no need blah blah blah Seth Killian and clockw0rk, as well as Ed Ma working on the game opens doors for other people in the hobby blah blah blah some other shit.

I have SRK on my gamertag but back then people didn’t really know (or give a shit) about Shoryuken. It was just a small way of showing support. Now I see a lot more people doing it, but even then it doesn’t really bother me as long as you use those 3 letters with pride.

On the SRK thing on your tag, I’m pretty sure its more to do with letting other people you run into from SRK that you are a member and less to do with intimidating. If you are getting intimidated by an SRK tag, you got some serious issues.

The difference is that he obviously wasn’t serious when he was doing that. Compare that to certain American players that show disrespect during/after the matches and are actually serious about it.

I really don’t understand how anyone can have a problem with what Kusoru did. Oh and FChamp deserved it.

A good example of international disrespect would be Mamespider vs. Clockwerk at Evo.

Which is funny because Mike has been always very polite when talking to him; I think xes dislikes him for doing a FG the way that he (Mike) likes with stuff that he wants on a game.

lolwut?

I wonder how many things xes would say are “wrong” if I made a fighter.

Everyone of them of course

He doesn’t like it when people praise or like things/people. See: GGPO thread. So as long as your game didn’t have an enthusiastic fanbase, I think you’d be OK.

It’s all kind of on a theme. Praise is great when it’s actually based on the product (example: I’m hardly alone in thinking injustice looks pretty damn good, or that kof is fun to play).

Estastic praise over associations is the annoying issue.

Killian probably didn’t do much to make either mvc3 or PSAS much better a games… But his name sure helped with marketing within the scene.

In the same way, ggpo is a good service, and rollback is a good tool to have in your kit. Treating it like a panacea and saying that ggpo would fix everything wrong with online experiences ever is just silly.

See the distinction? It’s this cultish love things get from associations that I take issue with. Look at the Products as they are, not based on whose names are attached to them.

The problem is that you don’t know who is and isn’t doing that, you only have your assumptions based on said enthusiasm. So you may assume people like something because of a name attached to it, but you enjoy playing devil’s advocate more than you enjoy knowing what you’re talking about.

You can watch the process. Its not like coming in on release day, it’s watching through the entire life of the promotion of the product.
Early coverage of these games was entirely centered on the names associated , well before there was any amount of actual detail.

Beyond that (in the case of psas) I have absolutely nothing against the game! I haven’t had anything to say against it excepting noting how pathetic it is that fans get all doe-eyed over some BS scene celebrity consulting on it.

Sent from my Radar 4G using Board Express

Edit now that I’m home: good bonus that the process of him doing exactly to me what he claims I do to others just gets a ton of love.

you got ripped off, all I paid was 8.95 :coffee:

you a bitch, bruh

You think you’re so cool with your little “SRK” in your gamertag. Clans are fer bitches. :stuck_out_tongue:
