Thigh Life & Style Magazine: Your guide to everything Chun-li!

Hm. I think she has a better time vs Rufus thanks to fuhajins, and the Juri subforum regulars say Viper’s easy for her. Relative to Chun, though, she has bad matchups vs Honda, Guile, and (from experience) especially Fei Long.

you are forgetting honda and dj as “pain in the ass match ups”

Lol well I meant how Juri covers (or doesn’t cover) Chun’s bad matchups. Clearly Chun has a lot of matchups she’s strong in that Juri isn’t, but if you were playing both characters, just pick Chun for those matchups.

Just some footnotes regarding the safe jump from sweep (and fwd throw) against 4-5f reversals, some of you might already know this, but Sagat and Cammy wake up 1f slower and Blanka 2f slower than the others, so you have to time them slightly more delayed - which is actually easier to do.

Err OK almost certainly not new at all but its not posted in the first page cos there is no Gen write up at all but hey… I fight a very good European Gen so I might do a write up (although don’t know if I’m good enough a player to really do that) anyway thought I would at least share the most basic thing you need in the match up, to stop him jumping…

Simple point for Gen cr.mp beats all his jump in attacks (every button) in both stances…

Also I saw someone post about Hakan been a hard match up, I agree I’d say its 5-5 (maybe) and before everyone puts me on blast I imagine, in fact I can pretty much be sure most people haven’t fought an actually good Hakan as much as I have. One with strong fundamentals and execution good enough to do his oil focus parry into combo’s off all your attacks. Rather than the ones that just use lame gimmicks and mash SPD lol, Hakan can actually shut down every Chun option. Again I might write that up as well as I play imo the best Hakan in Europe (again only my opinion and I’ll be honest I lose a lot more than I win so maybe it won’t help)…

Oiled Hakan destroys footsies, and gives Chun a really hard time. He’s a very legit character when oiled. Plus she can’t use her generally amazing tool that is standing roundhouse against grapplers due to his height and that charging shoulder that lowers his hitbox. You cannot jump or poke an oiled Hakan at all. Your best tool there is really stand mp buffered into legs. In AE12 he’s going to start with 15 seconds of oil, the match-up my even swing slightly to his advantage.

His normals aren’t awful by any means either, combine that with the dash cancel into normal aspect of oil it makes it all the worse. I don’t even know what to really do with the guy. When my city starts weekly gatherings again, I’ll play this guy who mains Hakan on regular basis and perhaps have more to report.

i really hate the “don’t know if I’m good enough a player” argument, but dont take it the wrong way too, im just saying that if you dont think you are a decent player why bother? i mean i have seen your vids and i can tell that you are not a bad player at all (i really suck, but thats not the point). Any info from decent players are better than no info at all imo.

the other argument that makes me think that i suck at this game is reading that you play with amazing players from Europe, i have played against hakans that doesnt spam spd or random bs, but yeah they are not from the states or japan or whatever so they just suck, and therefore i suck cuz i play against them and i cant beat them… /rant

all in all if you think you can help with that info then DO IT, i trust your judgment and skatan`s and many other chun players from this boards/m2c

again dont take this as an attack or whatever cuz it is not, is just my shitty english

I’ve seen what Hakan can do - there are a few guys in SoCal who play him. He’s pretty fearsome in the right hands, especially because it’s a super underestimated matchup. Kind of like Makoto - everyone assumes they are going to win so they don’t practice the matchup ever, and then get surprised when they lose to shit they weren’t expecting.

Now both Makoto and Hakan are pretty monstrous actually.

Plus, Hakan has an option-select SPD/Ultra 2 in the corner that eliminates a lot of your options. You either eat SPD or Ultra 2 for doing just about anything. I didn’t study it that intensively but if there really is no way out of that, that’s pretty scary.

maybe reversal u1/super or EX hazanshu

Hakan has lots of trouble dealing with the swedish firecracker and c.hp x legs pressure

Yeah but you need meter for the cracker and Hakans pokes (well some of em) are really effective at beating Chun out at c.hp range, plus the crazy “special properties” some of his normals have makes them really safe. He is beatable but to me in many cases his game and focus xx normal to guaranteed 220+ damage of any none cancelled normal (admittedly this is not automatic for Hakan to react with focus but it is what good ones will be looking for, rather than those classic random oilslides… shoutouts ???) makes the match up pretty difficult.

Plus I hate his 2 frame air grab, his great AA when unoiled and obviously his totally impossible to jump in on when oiled game… Hakan will be pretty high tier in 2012 starting with oil

Any guess/theory as to what extended LK Legs, MK Legs or HK Legs is on block? The frame data only lists the data for the shorter version of Lightning Legs. I know I have about 3 frames advantage after cl HK xx HK legs FADC so I’ll get a CH setup by following up with another close normal or cr. mk if they press anything that’s not invincible, but I don’t know if I’m at an advantage to do CH setups after making them block cr. FP xx Legs (7-8 hits).
I’m in class so I can’t test it yet. 'Just curious if someone already knows the answer.

+3 after extended mk legs

Thanks. Good to know I can still potentially CH them with that kind of pressure.

So did people know you could do EX SBK post Tenshokyaku mid screen against certain characters? Because I didn’t.

I was able to get it to work on Akuma, Gouken, Oni, Dhalsim, Blanka, Zangief, T. Hawk, Hakan and Vega, it probably works on other characters, but I’m pretty sure it’s not universal.

Yeah I think the first time someone did it was Evo (when Vanilla was there), you have to stand and move like 1 frame forwards into the EX SBK… Its too hard for me to get other than like once in every twenty attempts in training. I just quit trying to learn it in light of Legs being imo better and easy to land…

Still it is cool

I thought Ricky Tam just did it post EX legs against Daigo? Not post back kicks? Ah well. Still, I wanted to start making more videos anyway, planning on making a safe jump one next.

You may well be right, thought I’d seen it before but maybe not…

Safe jump off of a throw. New AFAIK.

This just made cr.hp xx legs, u1 link a whole shitload easier
