They should really broadcast Evo on G4tv

why not take it one step at a time. Tell the newspapers about Evo. I mean it won’t be front page stuff, but there is bound to be someone in the arts or entertainment or hell maybe even sports page that could do a story on it. Especially with the international players and all of the hype for the players and excitement.

I was actually thinking of doing that for Evo North. Quals for Evo world and quals for SBO with hundreds of people coming together in 1 small arcade for those 2 goals. Thats definitely something that a newspaper can run with.

Maybe make it like that hotdog eating contest in NYC every july 4th. Except its reversed, we’re going over there to win the title lol. Too many angles that this can go.

I just finished watching xplay today and it’s really crap.

It usually goes like this:

5 star game/cheat code game:

Paid advertisement

4 star game:

Mainstream game

3 star game:

Rehashed shit/fun as hell obscure stuff.

1-2 star game:

Buggy, glitchy crap that they review just for fun.

All the decent reviews are for anything under 4 stars and they seem more inclined to review a naruto/one piece game than show tournament footage.

The only good thing about the show is when they make fun of games with skits… they should just cut out the entire review section if they had half a brain and make it the Saturday Night Live of games.

Oh yeah the best part of x-play today was that they had a poll for GTA4 and 44% of people said they didn’t even buy it.

This was after a previous episode they were saying GTA4 was going to be the greatest game launch in history.

Nothing but hype.

Its the closest thing to ‘competitive gaming’ they have on there.

i dunno man, i know a lot of non gaming friends. they come over. see other friends play a game like cod4. of course the non gamer friends will be like “thats sick” or “OMG you took that dude’s head off.” but even they can do that right off the bat, if they pick up the controller. they dont see any strategies other then aiming. they dont understand map control, bunny hops. rocket jumps, strafing. so really, when they see this on tv, why are they watching? they dont understand whats happening, especially when they can only watch thru the eyes of one player, effectively only allowing the person to see 15% of the match roughly. they see people getting hit with nades and shot. why dont they jsut turn their xbox on and do it themselves?

atleast with a fighter, they see everything. all the focus is on 2 characters, its much less confusing and its all right there. a person that just casually plays a fighter or has barely played one, can actually get more out of it. theres very obvious stuff to be seen in a fighting game that the viewer cannot reproduce himself by just picking up the controller. things like very long or stylish combos for instance. actually gives some type of reason to watch.

i have non gamer freinds that get more out of watching a 10+ year old fighting game over a next gen fps game. this is all from personal experience. so its just observations.

bottom line, the average person isnt gonna understand anything for the most part no matter what game it is. so its rather moot point

I’m in so cal and the last popular SF game after the SF2 series (for the average gamer) was X-Men VS SF.

I’m still not sure if that was as popular as MK3 down here.

Anyways, the point is that I know lots of people who used to be into SF2, XvSF, KI, MK1-3, etc but now all they play are fpses like Halo, CoD, etc.

To them SF is old, played-out, and boring.

I often try to get them to play me a few rounds of ANY fighting game and they get bored after a few matches.

They don’t remember much beyond normals and a few specials/supers and they aren’t interested in learning anything either.

That’s just reality for a lot of people outside the world of ‘classic gaming’ and fighters.

They’d rather play something like a racing game that they can just pick up and go than a fighter that requires them to look through a command list.

this is truly a good idea it doesn’t matter what channel just airing evo matches would blow people away… think about it people how many of you walked into a gamestop or a local arcade and met people that thought they new sf…??? at this point we all remember what it was like before we learned and know people who just got into the scene within the last few years… remember what a mind fuck it was watching people really good at marvel cvs sf2 3rd strike alpha 3 guilty gear tekken soul calibur even super smash brothers… the first time you saw the demon the bison a groove combo a crazy guilty gear combo or saw how powerful jin was in tekken 4… the beautiful truth is you don’t really have to know a lot about how a fighter is played to know that one kat just got his assed handed to him… to know that someone just came back from the edge of death to take the victory… or that the fight was so close it came down to the last hit… if you don’t know these feelings you need to check out acho(gfb.combovideos.com)… but i know we all know… and i think it’s a great idea to share this with others… hell there are soo many out there that think they know but when we show them the flip out… that is the reaction the tv viewers will have… :rock:
