I agree with keeping ultra 1, since headbutts do a good amount of chip damage and are basically unpunishable by Dudley without it.
Yeah I know what you mean, I throw out 7-3 because I sure feel it is that bad at this point  but I would say 6-4 is not a stretch to say at all based on the other matches I have been researching.
I had been using U1 at first to punish headbutts but they all but shutdown the headbutt game when they see U1. How easy is it to hit the empty short headbutts on recovery? I assume he can just go right into sumo splash out of recovery to avoid? I gotta try that though. The main issue is that he and most other good hondas are not throwing out any type of headbutts at all in mid to full screen distance so I cannot punish those at all with standard normals. Bad hondas for sure but good ones?
As for the in air normals game its a tough guessing game since you can really only effectively jump at honda with MK or HP and again it has to be at the right distances whereas honda has about 4 effective options and the guessing game adds up against Duds. That or maybe I am not paying enough attention to what distance he is jumping at me at and I am caught between identifying the correct ground AA vs jump at attack so who knows. Thanks for the advice though I will try going back to U1 to see if that helps turn the tide.
They’re all 14+13 on whiff according to the frame data, but I don’t know what that means for Honda. Assuming it’s 13 frames, seems like we’re out of luck since the only time Honda is going to whiff a headbutt anywhere near you is because it was a mistake. Also, having U1 shutting down headbutts is good. If you take the option away, they can’t get free chip on you.
why you guys still post on these threads.
Honda vs Dud in AE is 5:5
shhhh you don’t even play AE, color 9.
I think you misunderstood me a bit. When I say bait those headbutts, I mean that you should bait them to be blocked when you are up close. Don’t concern yourself with punishing whiffed headbutts. A smart Honda, as you said, will generally only use headbutts as an up close reversal to cut off your momentum in a block string once U1 is present. If you manage to get them in a block string and simply pause to block, you will often be able to bait an ex headbutt and be able to punish with U1. Also, get safe jumping down, so you can block if they try to wake up, reversal EX headbutt, and punish accordingly.
Other smart Honda’s will use headbutts even more sparingly than that once U1 comes online. And while you are not punishing headbutts that are not getting thrown out, you are actively limiting his move set. Specifically removing one of his best tools against you for as long as you have it. I would much rather not get pressed for free by headbutts than have a chance to tack on a bit of additional combo damage with U2.
But Baiting mid block string comes down to reading how your opponent likes to use headbutts. And if they do some sort of buttsplash instead, you are blocking and can respond accordingly. If they command throw your ass, then just keep trying to mix them up, condition them to use their command throw sparingly, or try to do block strings that end with you being out of range of the grab. Certain target combos can be very useful for this.
Also, trying to stuff headbutts with normals should come after getting a feel for how your opponent plays. I wouldn’t use it as a go to strategy to start things off. I would start doing them when I get a feel for how liberally they use them from midscreen.
Since AAing Honda is basically all spacing dependent. I highly recommend practicing your spacing to the point that you can recognize when just blocking the jump in is your safest bet or not. It is best to get put into a block string than incorrectly AA and eat a fat combo. But once your spacing is down, you should almost never throw out a bad AA. And Dudley has numerous, useful Air to Airs depending on spacing as well. J.LK, MK, MP, FP can all beat Honda in specific situations. It comes down to you to be able to recognize those situations accordingly though.
Ah, I see what you meant brainpipe. Good stuff so I am going to switch back to U1 and adjust my strategy and see if it gets any better. Regarding the normals and AA though I always tend to get backed into a corner trying to read and anticipate and it tends to get ugly then. Honda walk speed drives me crazy and is always faster then I expect…
