j.h starfall is awkward? that’s all you have to do to get a clean combo off jam session.

So from reading this forum, Zero/Vergil is a solid combo right? What assist are you guys using for both?
And as for a 3rd, is Magneto good? Other options?
I HATE Sentinel and refuse to play him, for the record. Lol.
I’m still not convinced by Zero/ Vergil at all. Seriously his assist doesn’t do a great deal for Zero IMO. He’s literally on people’s teams just for the ToD/ DHC combo.
Still think Zero/Dante shits on it despite the damage/ hit-stun nerf it’s a metric shitload more versatile. I’m stuck on picking an anchor for this new team though candidates are:
Doom, Ammy, Sentinel, Strider.
Bearing in mind the goal of this team is just to be as cheap as possible, which I think Sentinel offers. But I can’t pilot the fucker at all.
As hadou said, most of us play vergil for TODs. Personally, I’m working on dropping him because I don’t like him as a character at his current state in the metagame. Wesker, Magneto and Doom are your best options imo.
Thanks. Rapid slash is the assist to access said TODs?
Rapid Slash is just his best assist overall I think. It’s the best for extending Zero’s combos, it’s the easiest to hit confirm from because of the spinning knockdown, and its screen coverage is just obnoxious (especially in devil trigger).
nah, rekkoha to spiral swords is a 400k extender, and it ignores hitstun.
guys; would you play viper or doom in your zero/dante team? character crisis here
Doom. Beam is invaluable for Dante.
I am finding ALLOOOTTT of synergy between Zero/Storm. Havent found a solid anchor yet (considering sentinel for mixup/keepaway/STEB ender but not too sure since I’ve always found Sentinel Drone STEB ender to be extremely inconsistent). But with whirlwind assist, I can get a full combo and still ToD if I confirm off of it since it doesnt seem to scale combos too hard for some reason. Pretty decent mixup with command dash+ whirlwind since it pushes the opponent back too so its pretty much impossible to tell what side Zero will end up. In midscreen combos, she helps pushes them to the corner without scaling too hard off of an OTG into whirlwind. And from Storm to Zero, after elemental rage in the corner, you can go into lightning loop if you cancel it early into clone. Off of a raw elemental rage (which doesnt happen too often unless they are braindead spamming full screen) Zero can also go into jump loop or just normal D-loop. Plus, Rekkoha DHC into Hailstorm is pretty gdlk too. And a quick DHC into hailstorm is a sure way of getting Zero out and catching the opponent if they are pressing anything since it comes out on frame 1.
Just a bit of synergy I’ve found with the 2. Of course, everything I’ve said about this pair, Vergil does better. =/
What do you guys think of Zero/Doom ( Missiles or beam not sure, beam has some redundancy with coldstar but is still an amazing assist regardless / Amaterasu.
I’m new to zero so any advice is appreciated, especially on what combos I should start learning.
Yeah, if anyone can tell me the notation for the touch of death combo with Zero/Vergil it would be greatly appreciated.
Notation’s in the description

Hey, this is my first forum post here on SRK, but I read the Zero threads on the regular. I have a 2 part question:
I’ve been playing Zero/Hulk/Sentinel since vanilla, but i’ve been thinking about switching it up a bit. I like to play with a basic setup of zero/meatshield/anchor and after looking around a bit, I came to a team with Zero/Iron Fist/Iron Man. iron fist is my OTG and iron man’s assist helps with pressure. im too not too sure if i really need an OTG assist since Sentuizan OTG’s too, so i might drop iron fist. any thoughts on this team, or any other team suggestions?
I really wanna play Zero/Doom/______ but my mobility with Doom is terrible. I’ve been playing on pad and I was wondering, would picking up a fightstick improve my movement/combo execution? And if i were to get a fightstick, any recommendations? I’d rather get a cheaper one since I doubt I’d be playing at competitive/tourney level anytime soon lol.
Zero doesn’t need an OTG assist, what he really benefits from are assists that help him control space and that extend his combos. A few of the more popular assists that you’ll see suggested in the forum are Jam Session, Hidden Missiles, Rapid Slash and Drones. With that said, you noted you were interested in playing Zero/Doom. If you decided to switch out Iron Fist you should try Zero/Doom/Iron Man. Doom fits the meat shield requirement in your formula and you get Hidden Missiles. Pretty sweet deal.
If you did decide to stick with Iron Fist you should probably just use that dragon kick assist, whatever it’s called.
In regards to your second question, it’s really all down to personal preference and what you feel more comfortable using. Contrary to popular belief, switching from pad to stick won’t magically make you an execution master. There’s tons of amazing pad players on this forum who are all as equally skilled as stick players, so in the end the control method is moot. It’s all about the practice.
However, if you’re serious about picking up a cheap arcade stick you should give Tech Talk a visit. They’re very knowledgeable and could give you a much better recommendation for a decent cheap arcade stick then I could. My first instinct would be to say that you can probably find a decent Hori for a manageable price though, especially on eBay or something.
My advice would be to try taking some extra time and practice moving Doom around with your pad before you make a decision to purchase a stick, it could just be that you haven’t given it enough time to let it become natural for you. I have a friend who switches between pad and stick who plays a very good MODOK and Magneto and I honestly can’t tell the difference when he changes the controller. Crazy stuff.
I’m in the same boat, in vanilla I played Tron Dante Sentinel. I dropped Tron for Zero because I wanted to continue winning but I really wasn’t feeling Dante or Sentinel. I switched to Zero / Vergil / Doom and while it works and is easy I need a lot more time with Vergil before I feel comfortable with this team. I went to Zero / Dante / Doom and it feels very nice. It allows me to play a more safe Zero on both offense and defense with the option to switch between doom beam or missles depending on the matchup (I pick beam against sent drones and some other assists, but I prefer hidden missles). I generally just stay on the ground and zone, Zero beats almost everyone in this game by just doing that but if I need to switch to air runaway I can do that as well. I can also choose my spots to start rushdown pressure anytime they block missles or jam session if I feel I need to. Once I take care of their point character the assists work well for lockdown / mixups on the next characters. If Zero dies you’re left with Dante / Doom which is still great.
Overall I prefer Jam Session to Rapid Slash, easier to protect, safer mixups, better pressure, better mixups, better space control at the cost of easier comboability.
I think Hidden Missles is overall the best assist for Zero, and with the added ability to switch to doom beam, another one of the best assists for Zero, I think doom would probably be the best choice for that team. He also works much better in a pair with Dante or Zero than C.Viper does so if you lose zero or dante you should be better off than if you had her.
What’s Zero best assist guys? I know he’s a point man, but what do I go with for a team of Zero/Vergil/Dante?
Ryuenjin. Invinci cross-over counter, extends Dante’s combos + lets Dante go for a quick and easy acid rain combo. Also helps Vergil combo off grabs and generally extend his combos too.
Don’t know about that team since I don’t run Virgil or Dante, but Ryuenjin is good for the CC as mentioned before and it in general catches people by surprise when you’re in a pickle. Hadangeki is awesome if you tag him out with Sougenmu though.
I might drop Zero/Vergil/Dante. The damage is nice but I’m not playing any of the characters on this team to their full strengths. Probably gonna go back to Zero/Dante/Doom or Zero/Sent/Dante.
Worth noting that Ryuenjin assist during Sougenmu is a pretty amazing anti air assist in general. Tons of active frames when doubled like that, and sometimes the shadow will protect the real Zero if he gets punished.
But it’s probably the best non-projectile assist for Vergil. Being able to combo off his OTG without meter or X-Factor means j. down H leads to a full combo, as well as ground throws.
I do still think Zero/Dante/Sent is “full power” for Zero, and Drones + invincible cross counter is great for Dante as well. The team gives Zero superior and flexible neutral game, at the cost of a good DHC. (Yes you could put Sentinel second, but don’t.)
Full power for Vergil is probably Zero/Vergil/Arthur. Vergil gets his best projectile assist and his best utility assist. (Arthur assist + Rapid Slash = meterless followup)
Zero/Vergil/Dante is kind of a compromise. No one gets ‘full power,’ but everyone gets proper assists. Zero gets Jam Session, which is almost all he ever needs. Vergil gets Ryuenjin, which means better combos and combo starters. Dante stays Dante, but that’s not really a problem. Really, the team exists just so Zero can have the Vergil DHC and Jam Session at the same time.
I think Z/V/D can do well in plenty of matchups, but Drones assist fixes so many matchups, and makes his good ones better.
His only problems I find are Hawkeye and Spencer. I only say Spencer because I personally have problems fighting him, not sure if it’s a matchup problem. But Hawkeye certainly destroys Zero.
Anyway, if more people played Arthur I think more of you would be playing Zero/Vergil/Arthur. It’s a sick team.
