I’ve actually been running a fair amount of Zero recently Half of the time borrowing Tasty’s team for it. This character is so bloody stupid.
I was testing my ‘any 3 characters from the top 7 placed together on a team is stupid and broken’ hypothesis by putting Zero/Wesker/Viper together and it works.
Though my current favorite Zero team is probably Zero/Dante/Magneto. With this there are easyish Wesker killing combos and on top of that Zero’s mobility and zoning when enhanced by Jam session and EM disruptor is amazing. It’s less of an erratic mix up set up and more of an incredibly solid abuse of Zero’s tools. It can open people up but excels at insuring that the enemy can never really do anything and when they try punish for a dead character.
“My team” is Logan/Dante/Akuma =D. The top tier chars are all so well rounded you can stick them anywhere and they’ll do a decent-to-great job. Like any two top tiers + Phoenix is a good Phoenix team, since all the good chars build stupid amounts of gauge.
That team is probably amazing for zoning, you have full screen horizontal and vertical cover. If I ever play Zero again I probably should be lamer, he’s like XIII K’, amazing at rushdown but equally excellent and safer with zoning.
just curious, what do people do after zero’s super. assuming you have…lets say 3 meters left.
I like to dhc into dante, jump s (or acid rain loops 3x if I want to impressed someone, :D) get my wall bounce, then his yellow punch to get the ground bounce, guiter into guns, then if I have enough meter, back into zero’s super after dante’s last gunshot, can kill pretty much anyone around 1 mil.
Hey, what is the best assist that Ryu can give to zero?
Well , now i use his hadoken assist for being a 1 hit, high hit stun, that keeps the combos really damaging, but i started to use the tatsumaki
and im liking the soft knock down that push them in to the coner.
What should i use?
Tatsumaki assist works kind of like Akuma’s except it has no projectile invulnerability and not as much priority, but you just have to cover it with Zero’s awesome normals and then you’ll be able to Hienkyaku behind for mix-ups and pressure no problem. You can also use it in combos the same way you would with Akuma’s as well.
Hadouken is okay but it’s not a beam projectile so it doesn’t win in the durability department so you must cover it with normals/projectiles to keep it safe. As a side note, whichever assist you pick will determine whether you get Shinku Hadouken or Shinku Tatsumaki as Ryu’s super in a Crossover Combination.
For the record, I use Wesker/Zero together because they pretty much have no bad matchups together. The synergy between them is good enough although not absurdly brainless. Zero Shippuga allows Wesker to continue his combos and Wesker samurai edge is an assist i really only use towards the end of my zero combos anyway(which builds me two bars and with a level 3, I can get about 1,000,000 damage with anyway) and just maybe an occasional situational unblockable setup.
What will really put Wesker/Zero over the edge though depends on who you have for your third, which should usually be an assist that your opponent has to respect. In the end, Task was the best fit for me.
Champ described it best when he called my team “weird but good”. It’s weird in that the synergy the team has isn’t really built in, and the characters don’t really do too much for each other, but they do just enough to handle what I need them to do from DHC’s, to continuing combos, and above all, just getting kills and putting the incoming character in a bad spot.
I’ve been playing my same team (Zero, Haggar, Wesker) since day one and it’s gotten me a bit of success (I’m one of the better players in Orlando, still not saying much in comparison to other cities lol), but the only issue is it forces me to play in a manner that isn’t Zero’s strongest (Fishing for buster shots, and waiting for them to rushdown so Mayor Mike saves the day). I can usually get some pretty solid okizemi with wesker otg and air command dash M if they don’t chicken block immediately, and the wesker otg and haggar lariat assist both allow for relaunches (especially haggars with dive kick xx lariat > buster > L air-lightning xx genmu zero).
Most recently though at CEO’s last regional tournament, I got eliminated by a team that was able to keep out Zero pretty damn well that used Mags on point with Doom Plasma Beam assists. Zero’s health didn’t really allow for me to take alot of blocked beams and anytime I did get in, he would magnetic shock wave me back to full screen. I didn’t want to try and command dash past the shockwave out of fear of eating it. I’ve always felt that magneto was zero’s hardest match, with taskmaster and dante being distant seconds (because of their outranging normals).
Looking at my team, I like wesker as an assist and anchor, but I don’t like that my team has no real strong zoning as a team comp. I’ve tried different anchors such as Dormammu, Doom, she-hulk (lol), and Akuma. I don’t really like their playstyles as a whole but I feel like wesker is holding me back. I’m kind of split between Taskmaster and Ryu, and was wondering if anyone has had any notorious success with using Zero and Task / Ryu on a team when it comes to rush down and mixup’s. Also, I don’t really feel comfortable with the Mags matchup against zero…does anyone have any advice on how to handle magneto currently with either Zero -or- Ryu / Task? (I saw some comments before but they were a bit dated).
thanks in advance.
-edit- someone told me to get rid of haggar, but I like having him there to stop overwhelming rushdown and I get a dhc glitch starter out of him for both zero and wesker (as well as task if I decide to use him).
Well it’s good you’re rethinking Wesker as his OTG assist doesn’t do much for Zero. With TK Dive, just about any assist in the game will pick them up off the ground. I think you’d be better off with a space controlling assist or a beam to help Zero get in - especially since Ultimate is buffing zoning/keepaway.
Between Ryu and Task… in vanilla it’s easily Taskmaster. In Ultimate, I can’t say for sure but I’d have to assume it’s still Task due to his arrow assists.
hey guys. My main team is zero/dante/sent. Now I love zero and dante together, best buddies forever! but that robot…he gotta go. I only really use sent for his assist, and starting to hate it! he’s so freaking big.
I really want to switch sent for someone else. but…who? I want to get a character that has these kind of qualities for my next tourney: a great assist, good level three x-factor use, and I guess a solid character, plus…I want to play someone new just until umvc3 comes out for 3 more tourneys.
so I’m looking at wesker, ammy (cold star), akuma.
who would you recommend and why? (I can’t play magneto, to hard for me, :()
The second you said you were switching out Sentinel, I automatically thought Doom. Beam assist or Hidden Missiles work great, his air loops are so nice that you won’t even have to worry about saving the lvl3 if you don’t want, but if you do its curtains.
omg!!! THIS SOUNDS AWESOME. I look foward to use his hidden misslies assist. that one frustrated me the most. plus I think his assist would work great with dante more then zero. thank you, going to the lab to test out team combos.
how is doom getting buffed…besides the custome look.
Akuma-b, Ammy-b, Arthur-b, Doom-x, Phoenix-x or Wesker-y are not bad options. Although I will tell you, you are making a huge mistake by taking out Sentinel.
I meant to tell you, I came across a video of you running sets and I was really impressed with your Zero play using the Drone assist. Really awesome stuff. It’s what me and my friend would call a “wild” or “angry” Zero. Wasn’t tamed at all.
I won’t argue best Zero team against EvilToaster, but I can vouch for Zero/Doom/Dante being very solid.
Doom beam is about the best get-in assist for Zero.
Dante has blockstring call Doom beam teleport into mixup that can’t be pushblocked or escaped.
Rekoha DHC’s into/out of Sphere flame.
Dante gives lockdown for Doom mixups midscreen(somewhat tricky to apply) and mixups on incoming characters (easy and effective).
Doom in the corner is maybe scarier than Wesker.
Doesn’t help with mixups for Zero like Sent though. Doom is better as level 3 X-factor than Sentinel, except Sent has Born-To-Kill-Assists etched into his Drones.
I have been whoring his assist so bad, I agree so much that his assist is like the best for zero but I can’t make it work with dante. I don’t think it’s a huge mistake, as I love his assist but he SUCKS a character, wesker, zero, dante, ammy, logan, akuma, magneto, and others destroy him
I also wonder why marn switch sent out for akuma or wesker, as he thinks they are also good assists for zero.
If you insist on dropping Sentinel, make sure you replace him with a character with an assist that covers a good amount of horizontal distance whether it’s a projectile or dash. Having Sentinel on your team, while can be an effective zoning tool and can put a little more punch into your DHCs, it might ultimately lead you to two big problems
If you’re fighting someone with a fast beam or projectile or full screen dash assist, it’s hard to get things started with them when the match is at square one.
If you’re forced to have sentinel at point, you’re going to be running into a boatload of bad matchups. How bad they are will depend on who your 3rd character is and what they bring to sentinel.
I pretty much had to drop Sentinel from my team when I saw how useless he was against some of the better players and replaced him with Taskmaster. From there, I definitely had to tweak my style to be a little bit faster paced, and I lost a good amount of brain dead corner options. But in the end, those didn’t matter because I was getting in more effectively and dealing more damage in the long run. And it also didn’t hurt that I’d always have a great character no matter which one I’m left with.
alright, doom with dante and zero is just HILARIOUS!
Hidden missiles are like the best combo extention thing I have ever seen. there is so much to improvise. one example is dante’s regular bread and butter with laucher medium, medium, heavy, to bee hive THEN call doom assist, laucher to shooting guns in the air, hidden missiles hit, to MASSIVE ACID RAIN LOOPS. I’m working onto get his dhc glitch from this from getting a wall bounce to stinger from this. doom is so boss
akuma is also pretty cool. his assist just blows up everything, I feel like I could just mash him out and just charge. however he gets boring to use as a character pretty fast, :(. sorry akuma players.
wesker assist is okay but for some reason I don’t like it as much. with wesker I want to have him on point with dante assist being weasel shot and zero for anchor??? yes. zero is the anchor. I reley on zero’s assist where he throws his sword and just teleport with dante/wesker.
zero’s level three x-factor is the most out of control thing ever, and I’ve played 6000 matches with him.
working on more team chemistry, hopefully will have one for my tourney, keep kicken but zero players
