Solid Tournament. Banks came off looking like a star and he was protected. Gibson looks like a monster. BSS/TUE was pure fun.
The women’s triple threat was so good…it sucks that Jinny was injured and had to be removed.

Watching the UK tournament now. Gibson vs Gallagher was a solid opener. I’m not sure why the crowd hates Gibson so much but it really added a lot to the match.
I did not like the Coffey vs Mastiff match at all. For someone the size of mastiff he did not get a lot of hoss/power house style moves that I expected to get from him. Joe Coffey controlled the entire match basically doing feats of strength moves. And Coffey’s finisher sucks. I’m tired of people using the lariat as a finish.
Flash Morgan Webster vs Jordan Devlin was okay. It wasn’t bad by any means but it was OK.
Travis banks vs Ashton Smith was okay. Lots of yelling. The match seemed really short too.
Triple threat women’s match was super short. Couldn’t get into it. It was over before it even got going.
Gibson vs Flash Morgan Webster was also super short. I also hate submission finishes when the winner hasn’t worked on that body part the entire match. Because that’s exactly what happened and it’s a common problem with current wwe match styles
Travis Banks vs Coffey was good. I’m glad Coffey sold his ribs and his back due to all the power moves he did In his match vs mastiff. That kind of continuity makes me smile. The match itself was good too.
British Strong Style vs Undisputed was really good.
Banks vs Gibson was good. Solid back and forth action from both. They are really trying to sell that submission Gibson does and it’s working
Over all a good solid tournament. Tomorrow night should be excellent too.
“Working the limb” to make a submission work was always one of the dumber things in WWE. If a Submission is truly good and fearsome, it should fucking work even if you haven’t destroyed that body part for 30 minutes straight. A RNC should still put someone out if you haven’t wrecked their neck. An armbar should still have the risk of breaking bones even if the arm hasn’t been worked over. The ebb and flow of a match shouldn’t be about spending so much time working a limb to make a submission actually effective, it should be the dance of avoiding the submission entirely. Which is no different than how Finishers in general should be approached.
Now in fairness to your point, up until the finals with Banks, Gibson’s finisher looked like shit just visually. It never looked like he really sunk it in all the way when his opponents tapped. For wrestling, a submission finisher has to look at least somewhat visually dynamic so the audience can see the exact point where the match becomes a wrap. I don’t know if Gibson was just sloppy applying it early or Banks was actually taking the move properly in the end, but it looked great and painful to be in during the Finals. I need to go look into some of Gibson’s other work to see if this is a common problem for him, or if this was just an anomaly.

literally was gonna point out the fact working a limb for a sub is nice but def not necessary. im hoping that the fact prowrestling is taking alot from mma in the past decade the idea of surprise subs coming happen more. you can set things up and do alot of different things to imply a sub is gonna happen besides the obvious “work the limb” shit. thats an old school concept and in the age of realism…its not needed.
