The Wrestling Thread v.10K Lethal Lockdown! - Let me in...CAUSE ITS BOSS TIME! - Clash of Champions 9/15

I believe Brock has beaten Cm punks reign or record now of holding the title.

Brock beat nothing. Brock is the universal champion not the WWE champion. Punk’s fake record still stands.

If this is true…Carmella retaining.

Constable Corbin cut his mane…

so can okada do anything other than drop kicks and tomb stone piledrivers? i just got done watching dominion and i swear thats all he did. Meltzer called that kenny omega vs okada match the best match he’s ever seen? please.

Well it’s nice to know you can’t think about WHY he did so, but just see the spamming.

I won’t deny he absolutely did, just like Kenny spammed V-Triggers. But it’s not hard to understand WHY, when you consider he doesn’t spam them in ANY OTHER FUCKING MATCH.

kenny spamming the knee strike was annoying too. that match was super hard to get into for me. i found it seriously boring. i found most the card boring tbh. naito vs. jericho was OK.

DoMEHnion imo.

Stu, for the last time. You don’t like NJPW. You make this fact apparent every time you talk about it. Yet you continue to go out of your way to watch it. At this point you’re only wasting your own time, and the time of everyone else by continuing to discuss it. Whether it’s because it’s truly an “overrated promotion that everyone hypes because it’s not WWE” or a style you just can’t get into, or whatever else, your view point is going to be colored every single time you get ready to watch a match so the flaws will be even more apparent.

Now as someone who doesn’t have a hate boner for them…honestly, I will say that after thinking about it for a few days, this encounter wasn’t as good as Encounter 1 even if many say otherwise. The reason is that, and this is weird to say, it has too many callbacks. A couple make for a solid match with continuity but they were going to the callback well too much. To me, I think a match has to be able to stand alone where you can watch it without having to watch the previous matches and you still get most if not all the effect of the match. It felt like a fair bit was too far beholden to the previous 3 matches rather than breaking out into its own. It was a movie sequel that kept talking about how awesome the previous movies were.

It was a still a fantastic match, but what holds it back even slightly is that it stopped trying to create new experiences for a while. I think what makes Okada/Tanahashi an overall better rivalry is that they knew how to tell true self-contained stories WHILE building off of previous experiences. You could jump into any Okada/Tanahashi match and immediately get the story they’re trying to tell within THAT match while longtime fans could also appreciate the different wrinkles they add to their history. I don’t think Okada/Omega II-IV do that quite as well. That’s not to say they aren’t incredible matches, they are. But Okada/Tanahashi even after over 10 encounters, always finds a way to feel fresh where you can definitely feel a slight bit of staleness in Okada/Omega.

So yeah Jericho is ic champ.

Omega wins the Big one

Elgin gets a belt…

Canadians took over new japan

I am very happy with the results

G1 is upon us

And I am hype for the new japan san Francisco show since i am attending

I am a naito fan and a lij fan, I think hiromu is overtaking naito in terms of overseas

Also good to know that Ospreay is bisexual

Also I dominion was so much better than wrestle kingdom in terms of build and match quality

KopW is the usual first defense

I kind of hope for Tanahashi or Ibushi really

Stu hates puro and he occasionally likes some wwe stuff. Yeah I don’t know why you guys put him in charge of titling wrestling topic when he is the casual fan that hates good wrestling

Saitsu: If Stu is a NJPW hater, you’re like the opposite, the NJPW apologist.
They can do no wrong to you.

Watching Jericho vs Omega get 5 stars from Meltzer, clear bias.

My fav NJPW matches were

Suzuki vs AJ Styles 2014
Nakamura vs Ibushi Wrestle Kingdom 9
Omega vs Ishii (G-1 Long Beach)

And I like Tama Tonga and Naito in general.

I’ve never fully watched the okada vs omega matches, only caught end and the big spots. Also didn’t think Styles Nakamura was that great. Did not think Golden Lovers vs Young Bucks were that great.

The bucks vs roppongi 3k and this one vs lij was probably their best work of their career

The golden lovers match was good, but Omega and the bucks were doing hbk/flair in a tag match. Throw in some botches it was good

I think people think you can watch new japan without context.

Most everything has meaning and most everything builds to the next show

The subbed post match promos are great

They need to sub the pre match hype videos too

Naito and lij are the most over group due to promos and character

Okada is over because of charisma and promos

Tanahashi is over because of look, promo, crowd connection

The reason Nakamura is over now is because he is doing the same character that got him over in new japan except he is speaking English

Character, promo, look, booking are important to getting over no matter where you go

ZSJ got over in njpw thanks to taka being his hype man and zsj being the spindly noodle dickhead he thrives being

But look at the most over new japan guys and look at who has defined and built up character

Yes, they can do no wrong to me even though I literally just spent multiple paragraphs laying out why Okada/Omega IV isn’t as good as many think it is. Fuck off. I WILL give NJPW criticism where it’s due. Their Tag divisions are still complete garbage and they still have a bad tendency of only making a title change out of whimsy. Also their VOD system for BOSJ this year was much worse than usual. NJPW is not perfect by ANY sort of means.

if it wasnt for me taking vacation specifically to watch takeover and mitb this weekend i would have totally forgot about them. ive been so busy lately i havent had time to keep up with wrestling.

…raiding the indies.

I tried going through the NJPW world website to throw money at them, but I couldn’t find the prompt to enter my billing info. Oh well. I guess that’s more money for t-shirts I wouldn’t be able to wear in public.

I would feel more comfortable wearing NJPW merch than WWE. Their shirts have better designs and it’s not embarrassing to wear.

Yeah…fanmade WWE apparel nowadays are better than the authentic stuff.

So caught up on Raw.

Getting the vibes they are gonna have Nattie win and then betray new champ Ronda.
This angle is still garbage tho.

Also I really hope Naka wins this time, lord is on fire.

why are you doin it through the website.
