I dont see how carry bags and passing water makes a wrestler tougher or better at his craft.
When I first started decking, gettin the captain coffee damn sure didnt make me a better deckhand so I stopped doin that shit

As far as I’m concerned, “dues” are paid in the gym, the weight room and most importantly, in the ring. Carrying bags and being a waterboy only serves to inflate the ego of everybody else, and 90% of the top guys (according to Vince) have MASSIVE egos.

Because you’re in a company doing dangerous work where the person performing with you has to trust you. If you aren’t humble enough to listen to experienced people, then they have to assume you’re gonna be dangerous.
This is a way to bond and a way to show that you’ll work to earn the trust of people. If you can do the basics, then you can do other things. But if you’re humble enough to carry bags, then you’re humble enough to learn from other people and be guided to be a good member in that group.
That’s why rites of passage exists. Everybody goes through the a same or similar experience that certifies as a member. In a lot of tribes its to certify your manhood or womanhood. Think about what he is basically being asked to do: they are forcing younger wrestlers to be around the more experienced guys by making them move shit around. Sure not all of the experienced guys are going to take the time to you while you carry bags. But by forcing you to do so, they can increase the chances that somebody will take notice and mentor you.
But hey, he can also go out there and make an ass of himself instead of thinking a little bit harder about the situation he finds himself in.

If showin up to work on time, training your ass off, watchin film, passing drug tests, stayin out of trouble with the law, showing basic respect to others and performing in the ring isnt enough to be considered a rite of passage, i dont see how being some dude’s do-boy is
