Most of the midcard guys work the house show circuit and undercard live events (main event, superstars)

They also do a lot of PR work.

Who cares about house shows. If they dont have programs on TV then they dont exist.

The guys that don’t get booked for tv care a lot about house shows. Lol. It’s how they’re getting paid. It’s been that way since closed circuit tv. There’s always been the A team house shows which consist of guys usually featured on tv and then the b team house shows which were usually undercard/guys who’ve yet to debut//midcarders. They’d usually throw a midcard or the tag champions on the b team house shows to improve draws.

At certain points wwf even had a c team for house shows.

Hell even NXT does it. They’ll put 1-2 established people on the card and the rest will be yet to debut, hot prospects, undercard and try out matches.

When nxt is also having this issue where they send guys to nxt uk is when we got issues

Kairi Sane vs Bork Lesnar WM.
@Stuart_Hayden please talk seriously about this.

Yeah, none of that is helping guys get over. This company is still having the same issue it did when I was watching the product regulary. They have rosters full of talent, they shove their thumbs up their ass and then fire them like the talent is the fuck up.

House shows are a paycheck but they don’t get you over. Worse than that, they eventually get you fired. They could be putting pressure on creative to actually use all of the salaried people in a worthwhile way, but they shift the blame to the wrestlers. Its preposterous.

It depends on the guy really. Curt Hawkins, Heath Slater and Titus are content where they are and collect their checks. It’s only an issue for guys who want to strive for more like my boy Zack Ryder.

And all that’s perfectly fine. Those guys can still get over as midcarders putting on a entertaining product there. If they aren’t programmed properly, then it doesn’t matter what their end goals are. But that’s what happens. You have a lot of guys that are fun to watch and could be doing stuff to hold the show together but instead they’re misused and we have to complaing about another shitty Cena feud.

A lot of the strength in WCW was in how good the midcard could be on the weekly. Jericho Unmasking wrestlers was a midcard storyline that was better than half the NWO shenanigans. WWE doesn’t even bother creating those. Their issue as a company is that by not creating those, they essentially sabotage the development of their wrestlers long term.

Storylines don’t need to be anything complicated either. the Allister Black/Velveteen Dream feud is one of the best I’ve seen in a while. Had shit all to do with the title, both wrestlers were massively entertaining, the crowd was emotionally invested and they delivered a worth while ending with their match.

WWE Creative should be looking at their midcard and going “Shit, that was great. What can we have the guys do that’s fun so that the overbearing storylines we have for the top don’t drag the whole show down?” When Triple H said it was hard to fill 3 hours of television weekly, I was mad as hell. Most of that from the fact that they’re so preoccupied (or were at the time of the comment) with these overly long story segments, small match time and small rotation of guys on Raw.

Think Cornette said it and he was absolutely right: If a guy goes to creative and creative says they have nothing for them, you don’t fire the guy, you fire creative for being incompetent.

One challenge for WWE is how large their roster is. With ~50 active-ish RAW and ~40 active-ish on SD, a large chunk get left out. (I’m all for staggered rotations, so the product can feel more fresh and the wrestlers get more breaks.)

Match times have gotten better, but the side effect is less time for other superstars.

You’re not wrong. I agree that there is a lot WWE can improve on to give mid carders something and not need to be complicated. For Dillinger, even if this 10 gimmick had a limited ceiling, he was seemingly popular at that time and it’s silly the WWE didn’t try some kind of push.

The 10 gimmick is great because it involves the crowd. So you give him some time in the main roster, if you work out a couple of gimmicks differently than what he is doing, he basically has his unique version of “What?!” like Bryan has Yes and No chants.

Not a lot of wrestlers have that crowd interaction. If you’re filling out time, putting somebody in that is able to get people to have some fun while you transition to other things is insanely valuable. Being fun is really important. I bet you guys remember a lot more mdicard dudes for being fun than you care about top of the card stuff. Disco Inferno was fun, La Parka strut with the chair was fun, Alex Riley and Buff Bagwell would put on fun matches.

Hell Rusev’s staying power is that the WWE Creative can’t stop him from ending up being fun. They have a lot of wrestlers that can deliver solid TV time doing fun stuff. WWE just doesn’t seem to want that even though that’s the main point of their product as they market it.
