The Wrestling Thread 2015 - IN THE BOOKS! PLEASE LOCK THREAD MODS!

Honestly, i want to see TNA continue, the show has been good for months now, much better than what WWE is offering.

Stories are easy to follow, the matches have been great as a late, and Lashley is a legitimately great champion. He’s been on a roll

They seem to be improving despite their shortcoming here or there, and getting out of the iMPACT Zone has done wonders

I don’t think it’s a matter of if Spike will consider buying it from the Carters as much as I think it’s a matter of whether they’ll let somebody that’s not a Carter control it. I mean…we all know that worked out so well for them when those Heyman and Jarrett things went south. Though, granted not having Hogan anymore certainly helps.

Heyman controlled, Spike backed TNA.

#TheDream

I think the move to wed with no advertising. TNA not doing any build to bfg at all. The shit will hit the fan. As a fan of pro wrestling there needs to be variety.

NXT is my favorite product. Tyson Kidd as a cocky chickenshit kurt angle style heel is awesome. Fact.

I hope Tyson and Justin Gabriel team up again on the main roster as a heel team they are great.

Honestly if you have the network and haven’t been keeping up with nxt you are missing out.

Hogan and Bischoff overestimated tna’s potential when they tried to make them compete.

Think about it. They had wwe guys like angle, hardyz, dudleyz, rvd, kennedy, booker t, nash, lashley, foley. They had sting. They had a roster with promise like aries, lethal, matt morgan, desmond wolfe. They had tna guys like joe, styles, and abyss.

Nothing was going to ever move the needle. They had talent. But they toured and tna has shitty promotional and marketing teams so nobody knew about them. Hulk and Kurt never paraded around tv shows talking about tna. Hell foley was on comedy central and tna did nothing. Wwe did more to promote foley’s book and foley than tna did.

The problem was never the talent. The problem was the shitty name tna. The shitty marketing. And russo.

Hulk was there he was an evil and good gm. It was shit, but hey he had to pay alimoney and tna was a money mark.

Spike saw no growth so they stopped helping out with contracts.

Oh well. Tna over extended themselves. And post hogan tna was shit. With russo back in control. That summer was shit.

However the past month of impact wrestling has been good.

Too bad nobody watches it.

The name tna is toxic. Spike needs to buy it and rebrand it. Or atleast buy up the assets and bring in jarrett and gfw.

WWE, AAA, and NJPW are the only places to go and make money. I love watching all three. But hey whatever.

@Dab00g (since I don’t want to clog the board by quoting it all):

With the name itself “TNA Wrestling” being something you think is an issue (and I admit that at times it didn’t help things), do you think that if SpikeTV bought it, they’d change the name up, or at least slightly alter it?

Wasn’t the plan to move the name to ‘Impact Wrestling’ to begin with anyway?

Yea, so that happened…

soo basically random match with big show vs kane on raw?

I mean, Big Show doing a sunset flip. Haven’t seen him do impressive moves like that since his younger days

TNA had the all the opportunities in the world to rebrand themselves as a true alternative to WWE, and they were on the right track when they had their true core of Styles, Daniels and Joe. Jarrett being champion was their biggest problem initially, but they had the X-Division and put the spotlight on those guys. People that WWE didn’t want to hire because they didn’t fit the mold. As a matter of fact, it almost seemed like the world champ was secondary to who was holding the X-Division title. Getting Angle should have been the start of something big. I thought it was because you had perhaps the best wrestler in the world at the time, from just a pure in-ring and promo status, in your promotion.

  • Yet they squandered all of their goodwill and it was all because TNA put their faith in hasbeens, one-hit wonders, and a dumbass who had proven time and time again that unless Vince McMahon was on his side he couldn’t book a promotion. One good thing that is going to come out of this is one thing: Russo’s career is over.

He is finished. His name is the very definition of “box office poison,” and no other promotion is going to accept his ideas and I say good riddance. This guy has shown nothing but disrespect to the art of pro wrestling with awful short tv matches, and never once learned from any of his mistakes like not fucking hot shotting with title switches and dumbass swerves. Then he had the nerve to throw people under the bus after they defended you at expense to their own public image, What he said about TNA after he was let go was unforgivable and showed what kind of a classless, disloyal, two faced, sleazeball ass clown that he is. Fuck him, and before anybody asks, no I am not Jim Cornette. I’m just disgusted how this douchebag won’t take responsibility or any blame for the damage he caused to both WCW and TNA.

So…apparently Batista’s original gimmick after the whole “Deacon Batista” thing when he went to Raw was that the reason he was always so mad & beating people up was because he was supposed to be the product of a woman who got raped & hated him & was mad at the world because of it.

Now I wasn’t watching Raw during the whole Katie Vick madness (apparently this was in the era that story happened) but I would truly want to know who the fuck came up with THAT as a gimmick.

I wonder how the hell they would get that across. When he moved to Raw he instantly had Ric Flair as a manager for no apparent reason and this was when Flair was Trips personal bitch.

Apparently that’s what saved him. Flair took a liking to him and mentored him and Trips followed suit. I never believe the stuff on the dirt sheets but hearing it from the horses mouth is crazy.

Said the Evolution stuff this year was only supposed to last one week. ONE. WEEK. Only reason it didn’t was because Dave liked the idea & if it wasn’t going to lead to anything he was gonna leave to start promoting Guardians. Sounds like The Shield trifecta wasn’t even supposed to happen.

the shield thing looked random as fuck in terms of who they put together.

That’s wrestling though, sometimes the most brilliant things happen by accident. It is, after all, a personality based form of entertainment that is unreliable, at best, to predict what will work and what won’t.

For example: the King of the Ring that Stone Cold won that launched him into the main event? Was meant to be won by Triple H, but HHH was getting punished for the Clique incident, so Austin got the win instead, and cut the 3:16 promo and then you know the rest.

I remember Saturn’s mopey gimmick was designed to bury him as punishment for shooting on a jobber in a episode of Metal. The gimmick got over to the surprise of everyone though it didn’t stop the company from burying him.

Looking back now, Saturn actually had a bunch of good matches during his WWE run. I remember him having a pretty good match against Eddie at Fully Loaded.

Except Russo never had the book. He only helped with dialog for Tenay and Tazz. They would send him creative and he’d make rough draft commentary lines for them to go with the creative

Though it was stupid for Tna not to tell spike after they told Tna to not hire him. I don’t blame him for the booking. He hasn’t had the book since hogan/bischoff. He didn’t want it

That wasn’t grease. :wasted:
