I’m not sure how well America would take to the Japanese system. Pro wrestling, and MMA, in Japan is perceived a lot differently than to America, and MMA was almost killed by the American court system, and UFC was nearly died from lack of positive exposure. Being backed by a guy with not a stellar reputation when it comes to protecting his talent would not have helped the UFC’s cause.
My faith in WWE to produce high quality sports shows is not that high, considering the awful job they did with American football, and that was already an established sport with a massive audience.
On the other hand, seeing WWE style entrances for MMA guys would have been aaaaamazing. Randy Couture coming out to Real American would have been the most awesome.

Pride was very, very closely linked to Japanese pro wrestling. From the steroids to the crossovers in either direction to the fixed fights to the artificial storylines. They were owned by the same company and if you look at a fight like Don Frye vs. Yoshihiro Takayama, which was pretty obviously a work/worked fight that got a lot of attention and saw both men move on to prominent spots in pro wrestling, the benefits/downfalls of such a thing become obvious.

you forget…vince mcmahon had huge credibility back then. this was before the second steroid scandal era. he had alot of pull…everyone and their mother watch wwe.
the only reason ufc exists today is because two big things happened. they changed the rules to become a softer org and the second is they ripped off wwe’s business practices. the reality show is literally the thing that saved the ufc from dying which they took from tough enough. but they took alot of vince in terms of business.
wwe was the leader in ppv back then and was crushing ufc for a long time.
pride already did “wwe style” entrances.
