I like to DHC his counter-super into Doom’s Sphere Flame, and DHC that into Taskmaster’s MH Legion Arrow. I try to avoid using Maximum Wesker.
you have to get the spacing just right. For some reason Cobra Strike does a better job at it.
hold block and don’t let go
I’ve had the same problem. Doom on missiles is great AA but is not instant. Other AA such as Ryu (Shoryuken), Zero (Ryuenjin) and Morrigan (Shadow Blade) are great for peeling them off of you. Dante’s Jam Session is fairly good too (+ it has synergy w/ Wesker) but that’s more for people who like to SJ in. It’s a little slow coming out compared to the above listed.
command grab?
Well not really, is there any real difference between S,b,b,c,s and a,b,c(2hits) cobra strike? No not at all, but I have a far easier time with cobra strike.
C into cobra gives you more time to decide if you need to teleport out.
When not comboing or blocking with Wesker, what are good approaches, mind games, overall techniques to use with Wesker?
Personally I’ll just call in an assist and tele behind/above who ever for a free mix, I also use a lot of samurai edge tele shenanigans if they’re jumping around a lot. If you tag them with it while they’re jumping you can tele forward for a free juggle. A good random aproach sometimes is jaguar kick, it’s surprisingly safe on block. If they’re spamming projectiles try to counter it at about half screen, otherwise you’ll just run into another.
Here’s a question anyone think ol wesker is gonna be a bit of a one trick pony down the road compared to other characters?
Apologies for length here! I just have a question, I guess it’s with regard to team synergy. Please don’t tear me apart because I was absolutely shockingly bad at mvc2 and I’m only truly trying to get my head round this now.
From the start I loved the look of Wesker. I main Akuma in ssfiv and I like a bit of rushdown/mixup play. For that reason I decided that I wanted to start out with a team of Wesker B / X-23 B and then Amaterasu B to lock people down since her cold shot assist seems pretty powerful, also allowing me to switch to ammy if i require to play some keepaway. My problem right now is when it comes to a relaunch(?) with wesker. I can do, for example;
j.S, L, M, H xx cobra strike, wavedash, dash cancelled into otg, M, H, S, j.M, j.M, j.H, j.S, (dash if midscreen), otg
My problem is getting anything off the second otg with wesker. it’s my understanding that due to hitstun decay (?) i have basically no time to connect an attack with wesker alone after the second otg, and therefore i require an assist at that point of the combo in order to hold the opponent in a juggle state and allow me to continue the combo.
When I try to use ammy’s assist, it seems to come out too late and hits with the initial hit, and with ammys cold shot there is a slight pause after the initial hit, so the opponent is then reset. I sat trying using ammy at the end of this combo and out of about a half hour there were literally two occasions where the first hit from ammys cold shot whiffed and a couple of the follow up shots did hold the opponent, although for a very short amount of time. I tried it for so long though and could get no consistency on it whatsoever, and even on those occasions where it held them I seemed to have very little time to do anything. Even spamming the assist after the j.S it just didn’t seem to come out early enough, or else I couldn’t consistently time the otg late enough for it all to work together.
When I try to use X-23s B assist, ankle slice, the timing seems very tight again. It’s more doable than ammy’s, but the only followup that seemed to consistently hit was lost in nightmare. I was hoping to get down a relaunch combo with wesker that did decent damage and built meter though, rather than using up meter.
Right at the end of last night I tried using X-23s neck slice assist instead. The timing seemed noticeably more lax on this one, but it doesn’t stay out for long so I still don’t have long to follow it up. As well as lost in nightmare, I think the following should be possible with it;
j.S, L, M, H xx cobra strike, wavedash, dash cancelled into otg, M, H, S, j.M, j.M, j.H, j.S, (dash if midscreen), otg with neck slice, S, j.M, j.H, j.S
I got the S after neck slice to link a few times, but my muscle memory kept trying to do j.M, j.M, j.H and due to hitstun decay on top of the height they’re at (they seem to end up higher in the air after a rejuggle?) they went too high and reset at that point. This was also in the corner, so I’m not certain if the S followup to neck slice will work midscreen.
Really what I’m wondering is if anyone else has had much experience teaming either ammy or x-23 up with wesker and doing meterless rejuggles (i’m aware on the second otg i could also xfactor then do lost in nightmare)
I’ve put a bunch of time into training mode, and I hope I’m not going to come off as one of those guys on srk who just wants someone else to solve all their problems. I’m just wondering if I should possibly consider swapping someone in/out of the team in order to enhance team synergy, if I’m missing something basic in trying to set up a rejuggle (too many hits early in the combo?) or if there’s some tip to timing the ammy or x23 assist that will help me out. I’m really hoping I won’t have to drop anyone in the long run because at the moment I’ve picked up x-23 best out of everyone, then probably ammy. Although I like wesker the most and I want him on point I think his playstyle is still taking some time to gel with me if I’m being honest, but I do love his moveset and his otgs.
Well personally for otg rejuggles I use hulks gamma wave it comes fast enough so that the timing is lenient and it’s always nice to have a giant red brute in your back pocket if wesker and your secondary(taskmaster in my case) can’t pull it out.
Gamma wave is also great for cross over assists since it’s huge and covers almost full screen, if you teleport behind your opponent during gamma wave your opponent won’t know you have unless they heard wesker say "over here’’ because he gets covered up by the graphic. The bad part is hulk is fairly huge, and if you get over-zealous with it you have to beware of full screen punishes but I guess that’s the same for most assists?
Here’s a question for you, how are you liking Ammy, I find the weapon switches mid combo a lil irritating but it seems like she has great potential how do you play her and how do you think she compliments Wesker?
This is also a ludicrously good question no one gives me more trouble than characters with stupid good frame advantage like Ammy or zero, any ides guys?
I can’t bring myself to change anyone out right now until I’ve put a bit more time into this team I’m trying, because I’d love to make them work for me. To be honest I just moved house over a week ago and compared to most people I’ve probably had relatively little time alone with the game.
As far as weapon switches I can do her trials up to and including 9 within about 3 mins now so I’m getting it into muscle memory, but I haven’t even tried her trial 10 because the potential for frustration looks off the charts with the weapon switch being so late on in it. I’ve yet to properly work her weapon switches into my actual play against opponents though.
I’m mostly using her to help lock people down so i can mixup tele with wesker or crossup/feint hop with x-23. Once her (cold star) assist is actually out and active it stays out for quite a while. If she’s in play I either have her in solar flare mode for some easy basic rushdown since her cr.L comes out quick and her M stays active for a while, and then combo into okami shuffle. Either that or I have her with the rosary, doing H power slash and cold star/f+H for keepaway. Her glaive seems brilliant, but I need to work the switch into my game more. Okami shuffle also seems pretty decent for DHCing into too, seems safe for the most part and hits far away.
I’m trying to come to terms with controlling 3 characters right now, and ammy is 3 characters in one all on her own
After the second OTG, the only reason you would want to continue the combo is if you wanted to use a snapback or Lost in Nightmare. Going for another relaunch will not get you much damage or meter, and the opponent recovers very quickly. I find it much better to use the OTG to go for a mix-up. In any case, you can use X-23’s Ankle Slice in the corner, or Neck Slice anywhere to do this.
I played with Ammy’s Cold Star assist a bit. If you end your combo in the corner, you can call that assist, OTG, and then teleport into the corner. This must be blocked as a cross-up and cannot be escaped by any air recovery. If it hits, you can get a small combo from it (the assist does a lot of scaling, unfortunately). If it’s blocked, your opponent gets locked in the air. While they’re stuck there, you can mash wave-dash, forcing your opponent to guess which way to block as they land.
terrific stuff dr grammar. thanks training mode for me when I get home tonight
just out of interest - could you otg straight into snapback? or would it be otg + neck slice, snapback?
You still need to call an assist for the snapback.
my question : why are there so many wesker haters? people call me cheap for using wesker /shrug
I’ve using Wesker (Gunshot), X-23 (Neck Slice), Skrull (Tenderizer) with great success. I typically go for the basic ground combo to launcher > air combo> dash OTG > Neck Slice assist > Teleport combo to launcher and then it depends on the situation. If I’m in the corner I use Tenderizer assist instead which can lead to many options. I’ve been working on some resets and mixups with Wesker.
Hey, my team has been changing a lot lately in terms of a third character but I have always used ammy and wesker (third is currently tron) so Ill share some of my findings. Ammy and Wesker have great synergy together, Wesker can otg assist to extend all of ammys combos, additionally their dhc is really great together, someone makes a mistake they will pay for it easily with maximum wesker into shuffle or vice versa. Cold star is good for locking them down at midscreen and teleporting for mixup, its also good when you 've ended your combo in the corner to force them to be locked down when they get up then you can teleport mix up to keep them in the corner. Since they both have air supers they air tag into each other very well. One of the only problems with their combination is that if you do start a combo with the cold star assist it does very little damage. I think they work very well together as a team and I am sure the perfect third would take this team over the top.
A note to people who would like to play Ammy (I saw a commenter earlier), do not be intimidated by the weapon switch combos. They are not really that necessary, currently the extra damage is very minimal and not worth dropping online anyway. Ammy is a really amazing character she completely destroys sentinel and is immune to most spam.
Yeah, I tried running Wesker/Amaterasu/Doctor Doom for a little while. I think they have good synergy, but I was just finding I wasn’t nearly as comfortable with Ammy and Doom’s movement as with Wesker’s, so I’ve dropped them for now.
hey guys, I’ve watched a few wesker combo videos, and have seen this happen loads of times, is it possible to cancel mustang kick (comand throw) into gunshot? i can karathrow with h, but if i can followup with m, then the larger range is worth it no?
Yes, the :l: version can be followed up with Samurai Edge.
D=
runs to the lab screaming “the range!!!”
I’m having a hard time connecting with the gun otg after the cobra strike. And at times, even if it does connect, I’m too far away and the dn. M misses. Any tips?
