maybe i’ll come to this one.

I’ll volunteer to direct AH2, btw.

Cool. Generally, you should always try to bring your own controller to tournaments.

(Exception: if the tournament is held on actual arcade machines.)

Okay, so I really want I ride for this one. I will pay for gas.

I am probably going “AlterGensis” as well, but I still can’t gurantee it 100%. But its like a 90%.

If I can get a ride with Jay Wang I am in for this one for sure this time.

So, the AH2 PS2 port is apparently garbage.

What now?

Wow what the fuck:

Apparently the company that did the AH2 port, Ecole, is known for making shitty ports? I can’t even believe Examu or any company would allow a piece of shit like that to be released.

Honestly I don’t blame anyone for dropping out of the AH2 tournament because at this point, I’m not even sure the port will be playable. I forsee myself playing this for about an hour, then going “fuck this” and switching back in Arcana Heart Full. =P

Only hope now is a port to something else, like PS3/360/PC, done by a company that doesn’t make crap like this. =P

PS2 AH2 Update: so it looks like at least some (maybe most) of the characters are almost arcade-perfect, meaning they lag only as much as they would in the arcade (e.g. during certain supers), which isn’t a big deal.

On the other hand, this is based on training mode (online stream). It’s possible the game will still lag badly when two people are doing stuff, no matter which characters they pick.

At this point, the port is definitely not tournament-viable with the entire cast, and may be salvageable if you ban the very-laggy characters and arcanas. I’m okay with playing without certain characters, 'cause as long as it doesn’t lag more than the arcade, it’ll still be lots of fun imo. But I don’t know if you guys want to have a tournament like that.

Here’s what we’ve seen/heard so far:

Heart - good
Elsa - good
Saki - good
Akane - good
Kamui - good
Kira - good
Zenia - good
Fiona - good
Clarice - pretty good?

Konoha - lags during supers
Nazuna - lags during most specials and supers
Maori - lags during the 22x and 421x sisters
Dorothy - lag when she gets poker hands
Lilica - terrible lag during supers

Catherine - lag during almost all attacks, probably unplayable
Petra - terrible lag during almost all attacks, completely unplayable

Well, if Maori is out, so am I.

I want to try the game out for myself, especially with 2 players, and see how bad the lag is. It’s really hard to tell from this stream 'cause the stream itself has a really low frame-rate.

I have a bad feeling about something like Maori mirror match, though.

Now that I’ve had a chance to actually try the port for myself, I think there is hope. I noticed that whenever the game lagged, the PS2 disc stared whirring loudly. In fact, whenever I did any move, I could hear the PS2 whirring. But if I did nothing, it made no noise, which rules out the possiiblity that it was just streaming music.

Tomorrow I’m planning to try installing AH2 onto a PS2 HD and see if that improves the lag. I suspect that it will. (An HD is also VERY useful for getting through the long-ass loading times, too.)

Compared to the arcade, make no mistake: this port is still trash. But to be honest, it didn’t feel nearly as bad as it looked in those videos. (Except for Petra, who causes lag every time she shoots someone.)

I have a feeling there will be occasional moments when the lag screws up someones timing, like if you do a super but the other guy bursts just before it, then you won’t know how long the lag from the super will last. Most of the time, though, the lag is predictable. Thankfully the game doesn’t drop inputs during the lag, either, as far as I can tell. (And if we’re lucky, having an HD might even eliminate most of the lag.)

If it lags like it does when I sonic boom somebody in the corner like in ST, then I’ll be right at home lawl

If AH isn’t tourney viable, I think GG^C+ just came out… nudgenudge
