He did what needed to be done to save his best friend’s son, a boy he took care of after a zombie apocalypse when kid’s father was presumed dead. Read the books the focal point of the story is the way the crew (especially Rick but it seems Shane is taking Rick’s place is the show) is becoming animals to survive. [/details]

I hope some people are jsut trying to play Devil’s Advocate to be amusing, because if Shane really cared he would’ve shot him in the head. But the purpose was to make him struggle and be noisy enough in order to be a distraction. Based on Otis’s need for penance he would’ve probably sacrificed himself on his own terms, instead of being lamb to the slaughter. Otis saved his life prior, which was the reason Shane was still breathing at the end.

I wonder if the zombies followed the truck back, in about 12-13 hours that place could end up being swarmed.
That is how the damn show should be.
The zombies should ALWAYS be in the show, they don’t need to be eating people, but you can’t have 50 minutes and no zombies and then just have a blue balls zombie explosion every episode. They are the set piece, they should always be the background of the keeping your humanity drama.
So yeah, good episode right there. TV Shane is the best.

People should be killing each other to save themselves. It is how the walking dead universe works. Rick chases a man down and strangles him (with one hand) to protect the group they had at the prison. Since Rick is obviously not going to be the “murder all who stand in the way of my family’s well-being” guy like he is in the book lets see Shane do that shit.

Then again, we don’t quite see how far the car is or anything. Very interesting turn of events though and a much better episode than the last two. Shane. I can almost justify him. Almost. They were NOT gonna make it. One fatso and one hurt guy. He’s still a dick though. As a cop, he’s supposed to be the one to sacrifice himself. But, society isn’t the same, so why go by old society values? Not to mention that they were there all because of Fatso. 'Course, Otis was trying to redeem himself. But… goes to show that normal don’t fly during a zombie invasion. Now the question is will Shane be able to hold it together? And what’s his excuse going to be for cutting his head? It’s true that Shane looked like he was ready to sacrifice himself, but then he thought things over; was Otis really physically capable of making it out of there himself? Dude looked like he was about to keel over from a coronary and if he dies, Carl dies. So Shane called an audible and did what he did because let’s face it, fatties in a zombie apocalypse are only good for bait anyway.

Fuck all you PILLOW SOFT BITCHES shitting on Shane. The man did exactly what Jack Bauer (Glory Upon His Name) would have done. He first offered to sacrifice himself, then upon seeing that Otis was too much of an “honorable” pussy to do what needed to be done, and sacrificing himself would only get them both killed as WELL as Carl, he decided that sacrificing 1 fat life to save 2 lives was worth it. And shooting him in the leg was the right move, because zombies are more attracted to live meat over dead meat. Shooting Otis in the head may not have made them stop chasing him.
