“To the very active VF5 community - thank you for your continued support, we don’t have any updates about the game for E3. We really appreciate the feedback and hope you can understand that we don’t have any news to report at this time. Our community team will be asking around about the title when we return to our offices, however we can’t promise we’ll be able to return with any news. Thanks!”
I say screw comparing it though, SRK isn’t ground zero.
Although, this thread is mainly everyone just wanting to play R, while the T6BR one people actually talk about the game a lil bit more.
Thing is, when vanilla 5 was coming out, SRK got mad hype for that shit too and couldn’t wait to play it. But then soon as the game came out 90% of these people that were hype, were nowhere to be seen or heard from again, and it’s not like they went over to VFDC either, because those of us that were over there already, hadn’t seem them and still haven’t to this day.
If R comes out, I can almost guarantee like more than half of the people in this thread won’t even be around anymore for playing it. Which is what happened with vanilla 5. It’d be cool if it wasn’t like that though.
Lol I’ve already preached this. Also, you really think Sega wants to bring out 5R to compete with 6BR? Probably not. VF and Tek have always had their own scenes, fanbases, but with Namco going this hard with console 6BR someone would have to be clueless to not predict how this would turn out. Unless…
Console VF5R with beat’emup, or another extra mode, or no console VF5R at all.
Slide, that’s exactly my point. For most people VF is the type of game most love to talk about and respect because of its system, but when it comes crunch time to pick up the sticks, all of sudden you realize everyone is staring at the screen with Tekken on it.
It comes as no surprise to me that Sega is ignoring the Americans when it comes to the VF ports, and looking at how we overall receive it I cannot blame them.
People bitch up down, we want depth. They want balance. They want characters that play differently, etc. But because the game doesn’t have all those big 'splosions, wacky shit, ridiculous storylines and you can’t do moderate level shit within five minutes it must be not worth their time.
Sega probably knows this and decided its not worth their time either.
Excuse me for interrupting the wave of pessimism, but really you guys should take a look at your own theories for a second. SEGA not releasing R on consoles because there’s already Tekken on it? I guess that means they won’t be releasing Valkyria Chronicles, and all other companies will stop making RPGs, because nobody can top FF13’s hypetrain. Or maybe SNK and Arc System Works will cease KOFXII and BlazBlue because SF and MvC are kings in America anyways. KOF probably sells less in US than VF ever did, but with a good marketing plan SNK and Ignition USA seem pretty confident.
They probably know they won’t top SF4, but it’s not always about “topping” the other when it comes to sales, though that’s the most desired and the best resulting outcome possible this isn’t some fighting tournament where one wins and gets all the glory and prize while the other ultimately loses and is doomed to be forgotten.
Speculating why VF5R hasn’t been announced to consoles is silly and won’t get us anywhere. VF fans should stick to doing what we can do right now. The battle is not over!
Dark Vincent, I like your optimism. I really do. But the reason why we dont have VF5R right now is from Sega’s business standpoint. VF sales never made a huge ripple here even though it was mildly popular and known. VF5R is simply an update to VF5 which may not have done as well in the US as expected.
SF4 has topped charts. BB is on it’s way, we’ll see how that does. KOFXII is going to have a solid fanbase, now. Tekken 6 will be coming to consoles in a matter of months. It’s T6BR for christs sakes. Namco can already smell the loot. No lie, I played the game on two trips, once for 7 hours straight. I’d buy 3 copies. Sorry.
Think about the above, and VF5.0 dropping when it was the ONLY fighting game on PS3, to less than stellar numbers. Really think about that. From Sega’s viewpoint, releasing VF5R now is a bad business move. In fact, it may be murder. This isn’t about love for the game. Plenty love for the game already in Japan. This is about profit. Anyone could theorize that because it’s a likely truth. All 1,2,3,…14 of us.
Actually, VF4 sold pretty damn well on the PS2, it was a good million or so that it sold worldwide, which is nothing to sneeze at, especially since it was the first VF game on a non-Sega platform ever.
The problem with VF5 was that it was released on the PS3 when there was a stupidly small userbase in Japan and in the US, and honestly fighting games on the 360 don’t do very well aside from SF4, but we’ll see what happens with Tekken 6. To me Sega just really fucked up and released 5 at the wrong time. They should’ve waited at least a year on the PS3 version if they wanted decent sales.
