The VF5 Thread: The future IS now. RIGHT NOW

Jacky, Pai, Lau, Lei Fei

Jeffry as well.

Keep in mind, all of these ‘beginning’ characters suggested, can be played even in the highest level of competition, but they definitely are the easier options to initially learn. Once you learn the system mechanics and how moves are executed, you can then choose just about anyone.

I’ve heard people say that, but if you have two beginners and you give one Jacky and one Jeffry, the Jacky player will win almost every single time (hence the bottom tier tag).

Totally not true.

Jeffery’s low tier status is because he requires a large amount of risk to play and he doesn’t have many option selects like say Akira and Pai have.

At beginner level big stuff like falling for P->throw and eating big launchers left and right are common. So in this case beginner Jeff would beat beginner Jacky.

Jacky IS NOT that easy to play. In order to get decent combos with him you have to tell stance or do Iaigeri canceling. Jeff doesn’t need that, he does insane damage even when you aren’t using his absolute best. He also has better throws than Jacky, only big thing is he doesn’t have the faster jab or inashi parry but that’s not too big a deal at the beginner level.

I guess I’m talking button mashing level (very beginner), in which Jacky can own any character in the game. I’ve watched some of my friends play (who are completely unfamiliar) and whoever picks Jacky will mash the other fighters to death.

I would say the stuff you’re talking about would be more intermediate IMO.

Jacky is that real deal though.

Both Jacky and Sarah.

The Bryants are raw.

I don’t quite get why people think Lei Fei is a beginner friendly character. Sure, you can mash and random shit will come out, but he is absolutely one of the hardest characters in the game to learn with. He has tons of stances, and tons of basic moves (P chain, neutral K) that go into stances. I honestly think he’d be very confusing to someone new to the game.

lei-fei/jacky aren’t beginner friendly, they’re mash friendly.
For beginners who don’t mash? I’d say Pai or Jeffry. Nothing Jeffry has is particularly complicated in excecution, quite literally anyone can do jeffry’s good stuff

What about Lau? Is he beginner-friendly as well (he wasn’t that hard to get into in VF4, but I don’t know if VF5 changed anything). Also, the VF5 Producer one said that Eileen was designed to be a beginner-friendly character as well; I can’t really say if that’s true or not.

Man, I want to try out Jeffry when I get VF5. I’m a sucker for huge-damage combos. Also, I have a feeling that there will be a lot of Jacky and Kage players online. I hope I’m wrong (I like fighting different characters), but I won’t be surprised if this is true.

They did change Lau somewhat and he’s not as easy to use as vf4 but I guess he’s also a good beginner character.

I predict a lot of Lei-Fei/Pai/Lau/Wolf-lag-abusing-spammers online

I’d say Pai and Lei-Fei are mash friendly, not Jacky in the slightest.

But I’m talking in vf4evo terms.

It’s hard to really say whether Lei Fei’s truly easy or hard. If you just plan on randomly hitting buttons, you might actually look like you’re doing decent stuff and throw off beginner players. In that sense, he’s masher friendly.

If you try learning him legimately though, he might take some more time than other characters. Although not that much more to be honest. He’s obviously a stance character which will cause problems for players that hate stance characters or have poor memorization but he’s definitely not the hardest stance character out there. Each of his stances only have about 3-4 different moves (with only 2-3 that you’ll actually use) and his combos are pretty universal so you won’t have to be really concerned about character specific combos or open/closed foot stances. The only annoying thing is you’ll have to learn the stances right away (compared to say Lau where you can ignore his Tiger stance for quite some time) because many of his most basic moves are also stance transitions.

I just use him because he’s got wicked style.

And it’s true that although Jacky’s reknowned for his “basic” style, he might take a little more time to learn than other “beginner” characters. I could be dead wrong but I heard Lion’s not too hard either. He just conflicts that with not being very good and having to work for his damage.

Lei Fei in my opinion is a complex character that requires lots of practice to get a grasp of ever move that ends in a different stance.

I still cannot play him and given up even trying.

Those who play a good Lei Fei and display “the dance”, I admire you guys

The only problem with Lei Fei is he is hard to play “moral” with cause he isn’t a moral character. Hell the dude has a safe low that causes a stagger that is INSANELY hard to get out of to stop the follow up launcher for like 30-40% life, half life if you are near a wall.

Jacky is a “moral” character. Standard PK, 6PK, full circulars, decent throws, basic balanced combo starts. Mid pressure reliant.

So you mean that you don’t like him because he’s too good?

It’s too bad it had to end up that way because I wanted to play him even during VF4 when he really wasn’t good. I liked some of the changes they made but I do admit that 33pp is a bit much.

I don’t think Granby ever mentions whether he likes Lei-Fei or not lol. He’s just giving his take/info on what it is that makes him difficult to play, and things that make him easier to play. And if you still like him, play him. And if 33PP is landing for you, keep using it lol.

Here’s my take on Lei-Fei. Outside of juggles, I find him rather easy. And I would recomend him as a good character to pick up for beginners if it wasn’t for his stances. Not because his stances are tough, but I would worry new players would be too caught up in keeping track of his stances, instead of whether they should think of breaking a throw, or should they evade, or how they might space myself in this situation.

In all honesty, outside of say, Akira, Goh, kind of Wolf, kind of Vanessa, kind of Kage, kind of Shun, the rest of the cast is fairly beginner friendly. The execution in VF5 isn’t all that difficult, it’s knowing how and when to apply it. So once new players get how the game works, they’ll find it easy to ‘pick up’ just about whoever. Taking it that next step and becoming good with that character, or being able to compete with that character, that’s a whole nother subject lol.

Lol keep using him, he is a great character. I just don’t think he is hard to get into or get good with.

Sorry I’m just moaning, too many bad encounters with Ken I. and PheonixDTH lol.

I’m not actually concerned with whether or not he likes him, lol. The character does give reason for annoyance if he does.

I think Lei Fei’s other problem is that his general movement and playstyle is pretty different compared to other characters. So he’s not something that I would recommend to a beginner who just wants to get a feel for the game but if a beginner is interested in picking him up, they can rest easy knowing they won’t have a problem.

Yeah that’s a real good point too.

Holy sh!t! It’s like your talking another langauge. Tell stance,Iaiger, Inashi, lol. I got some research to do. Thinking I’m going to start out with the Jeffery. I like that beach stage.
