I personally liked the dodge button, and it was taken out to “simplify” the game (in Yu Suzuki’s words).
Also, I think the uneven surfaces of 3 are a cool novelty…it’s still never been done in a 3d fighter since (it’s in DOA…kind of, but not really)…in theory, it added a whole new dimension of depth but in practice, not so much really…
VF RANT
I’ll tell you what I miss from VF. I miss the ‘zooms’ at the beginning of the round. You guys know what I mean? Like in VF 1-3, it would go “Fight One” and the camera would zoom in from a wierd angle (like above the fighters, from the side, etc.) then “Ready, GO!”. I loved that. But 4 and 5 don’t do that, it pisses me off.
Oh and enough with this Tekken-wanna be art style. Bring back the blue blue skies, colorful graphics, proper VF font, and cheezy music from 1-3.
Honestly the way things look Tekken may continue to dominate the west which is sad I love VF but I guess many people don’t see VF for what it is. VF4 Evo is considered the best fighter of all time by gamespot. I wouldn’t say best fighter but probably best 3D fighter.
finally, I remembered how to spell my user name correctly to log back in SRK (i forgot that i used a space! I’m stupid)
Nice movies! getting to see more bg stages as we go with newer movies. Cant’ wait
About the innovation debates; it’s just a matter of time that these players pick up and use the new techniques and start to play like VF5 instead of playing conservatively with VF4 knowledge just to win to win.
For the people who have been at the Test events, how is the music? the J-Rock in VF4 & VF4e bugged me. I preffer the 90’s arcade-y music of VF1, VF2 and VF3 (especially VF2)
The cost for that setup includes 4 game cabinets with wide-screen, high definition (720p) monitors; a VF Terminal (kiosk to customize your characters) and a VF.TV module (broadcasts matches with commentary via network)
VF5 Kits will be available in August and it will cost between 140,000 ~ 168,000 yen ($1,184 ~ 1,421 USD).
I’m getting a VF3 vibe from this for some reason. The sound effects I’m assuming will change, since the ‘hitting the ground’ ones are ripped straight from VF4. The hits themselves sound a bit weak. Music sounds cool, way better than VF4’s “generic rock riff” sound. The animations look nice, though Wolf’s skin is sorta weird. But of course the graphics/lighting/shadows are fantastic.
Gameplay-wise, successful evade is hella slow! Damn.
