About the online play…It’s not going to happen.I don’t understand why don’t u people listen. I mean, how many times do I have to repeat myself?Sighs
From EMG issue 202, April 2006, page 51
EMG did a interveiw with Hiroshi Kataoka(VF5 producer).
EGM:There’s a lot of controversy among Western VF fans about the lack of online play capabilities in the games. What is it specifically about VF that you think doesn’t work well in online context?
HK:The biggest problem is the time LAG when executing techniques.VF runs at a very fast 60 frames per second, and every frame is important. We could make adjustments to ELIMINATE LAG, but if we did that, there would be no difference in the timing of various moves and the competitive aspect of the game would be runied. We ran some test in-house with simulated lag, but it wound up feeling like a COMPLETELY different game! We’ve come to the conclusion that if we EVER wanted to do an ONLINE Fighting game, it would need to becalled something besides Virtua fighter.I’m sure the players would feel thesame way.
Now, stop asking for something that won’t happen. It’s like asking capcom for marvel vs capcom 3.It won’t happen!
Nah man his moves aren’t really that hard, besides the 1/60 knee, his other difficult moves is the stun palm of doom you’ll be able to do that all the time after like 15 min of practice. Yes, even without a joystick. The supposed difficulty to play as akira is really exagerrated.
Yeah I have to agree. While tougher than most characters you’ll come accross in games, he’s not that bad. I’ve been playing less than a month and already do the knee regularly, I havn’t practiced SPOD enough to be comfortable with it but Bowza is exactly right in saying after a few mins you’ll be busting that like woa too.
With VF, you just gota buckle down and practice a few select moves till they become natural to you, then the real difficulty is in knowing when to do them and all the other common stuff like spacing, movement, mind-games, etc.
Finally got this on Thursday, and have been playing as much as possible since. This game is greatness despite the lacking features from vf4evo. Its funny how ive been playing the series since VF 1 and i still have trouble with using a block button. There’s so much to this game. Im hoping I can get used to the deeper mechanics as I want to get into this game competitively. Sadly, it seems the closest comp is the NYC crew which isn’t too bad. Back to VF I go. :wgrin:
I’ve been playing VF4evo (on a pad, no joystick atm), and the move i think is the hardest is this one…
Dragon Lance, Dashing Elbow, Body Check
df K+G, f P, b f f P+K
I’ve done it a few times and i’m doing it more often with each night, but damn, getting it out in the heat of a battle is a long lost dream! Sometimes in training mode, i press the button that resets the fighters to the centre so often and restart so quickly, that it fucks with my rhythm, then i end up doing his…
K+G, P combo instead - and that’s so frustrating! Have to take a break and start again when this happens. I feel this one is truly difficult on a pad, and frankly i’m a bit scared about trying it on a joystick when i get one later, knowing how fast i’ll have to move it! Really depresses me when i see the better Akira players banging it out in their sleep!
www.virtuafighter.com has a lot of info on how to do some of Akira’s moves and even advice in general on pad play. It is possible, I know a dude in the SoCal crew who can play pad Akira, which in and of itself shouldn’t be possible but oh wells.
My advice for the timing is, go through the rythm, but make extra sure you hit back (don’t try to fly through it) and then hit P+K the moment you press the last forward of the body check.
the key to getting that move off is to know that you have to input the body check BEFORE the animation for the dashing elbow comes out. Should be glad you didn’t play VF3 it was a lot tougher to do back then.
That should help, and if you still have trouble, just do Dragon Lance, Dashing Elbow, press Up and then P+K. Does around the same damage if I remember correctly.
The thing with VF on a pad is that…unless someone makes up some rule that you’re not allowed for whatever reason, the shoulder buttons all filling in for P+K, K+G, P+K+G, and P+G really makes things super easy.
Thanks for the tips guys. I know for a fact i couldn’t do the dragon lance combo without the trigger shortcuts (only for K + G tho!). It all happens so fast! Even when i do manage to pull it off, i look down at my hands and wonder how the hell i did it, it seriously feels like a mere instant is the only window to do everything - and thats when i start rushing it and fumbling it! I’ll try some more tonight
Dunno if it’s been mentioned already, but anyone notice how attractive the VF females are in this iteration??? Finally, VF has caught up to Tekken and (to a lesser extent) DoA as far character CG renders go. I mean, look how blocky, unattractive and lifeless the renders for VF2 & 3 were (the original VF is self-explanatory). It was with VF4 where they finally started getting it right, and now in VF5 they’ve literally trimmed down the fat (or in the case of Sarah and Vanessa, muscle mass). Sarah looks gorgeous and downright hot in that black dress, Vanessa got Beyoncefied, and they had Pai for once dressing down with that slinky red dress. Good stuff, keep up the good work Sega!!!
…But seriously though, does the VF cast ever age??? Sarah and Pai still look as young as they did in '94, and Shun’s the Wang Jinrey of VF: STILL alive. Bet if Lau didn’t have that terminal illness he’d still be rocking the jet black mane. (BTW, VF1-VF4 Law looks A LOT like Dragon Ball’s Tao Pai Pai/Mercenary Tao. Look at the resemblance!: http://dragonballzone.free.fr/images/personnages/autres/taopaipai.jpg)
Using EVO to practice is a good idea. The tutorial mode can teach you a lot of basic concepts used in VF. That said however, there have indeed been additions and changes to nearly the entire cast, even since VF4:FT, as well as changes in the games mechanics.
So in a nutshell, it will help you, but you’ll have to adjust and relearn some move sets, but it’s really not that tough.
