Yeah, it’s coming out in the summer for 360 and it’s coming out on the 20th for PS3.
…JUST BLEW A LOAD ON THE SCREEN…YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!
lol
2 more weeks…
Then again, my friend is importing the PS3 JP version, which comes out this Friday, so I’ll be all set.
Got my copy in this morning. Seems like the Elecom adapters that work for T5DR will not work with VF5.
I’m so jealous of you.
are you using the sixaxis to start the game first?
Yes, I’ve had them for awhile. I use them a lot with T5DR. The buttons are recognized but the stick isn’t.
damn that sucks.
a guy named srider at vfdc claimed them to work with his hrap1 awhile ago though so i don’t know what to say about it. seems like he had an early build of the game or something because he specifically mentions using the elecom and a hrap to play virtua fighter.

Maybe its just my ps3, hopefully thats the case.
Edit: All sticks were tested with Tekken 5 DR first(which they all worked for) then Virtua Fighter 5(whereas buttons only worked).
Nice. I’ll probably pick up the guide in a few months when the 360 version comes out…
Thanks for the heads up Dr. Deelite.
This happens in games with lots of engine features that aren’t exclusive to one character. Any VF character can crouchdash, ETEG, evade, use circulars, 2P, whatever else, so defensively they’re all on a pretty even keel. In VF the differences between characters are little things, like Jacky having both the best mid and low in the game, Shun having his own super meter + doubledashes (and windmill sabaki), Wolf going for 0 frame Giant Swing, Jeffry abusing 66K and 2K+G and Hammer Fists, Blaze winning any nitaku/throw clash situation with 8P+K, and so on. Everyone has the same defensive options (generally speaking) and everyone is capable of at least a competent offense, so no one is a gimp and anyone can reasonably compete. You see this in Guilty Gear, too. Everyone can burst, (almost) everyone can run and airdash and IAD, everyone has at least a competent offense, so even low tier can win. The gaps between high and low tiers in this game aren’t as large as other games because the defensive options are homogeneous and there’s less chance that a character just doesn’t have an answer for a given situation.
It’s in games without universal engine features that you run into problems and larger gaps. What’s the most dominant feature in Marvel 2? Strong flight or an eight-way airdash. Imagine Omega Red or Rubyheart with an eight-way airdash for just a second. Imagine Magneto without an eight-way airdash, or Sent without flight, Storm without airdashes or drift, etc. These are advantages just huge amounts of characters don’t have, and don’t have an answer for. To compete against that you need to have the same thing, or a gimmick a la Cable. Otherwise, ground into dust.
Mind you, I really like your explanation of things, but I see things a bit differently. I’ve always felt that most characters in VF had like their own complete game system to work with (Goh had HUGE emphasis on throws, etc.), and they used that system to their advantage. Basically, the characters’ strengths would make them really good if used effectively, although with every strength, there are a few weaknesses (Akira has insane combos, but he’s linear and very suspectible to evades, etc.).
Your analysis is very accurate, though, so I’m not saying you’re wrong.
I’m speaking from a general view, I don’t mean to say every VF5 character is identical. For example, Goh’s huuuuuge throw/counterhit/sabaki emphasis, like you said, or Akira’s linear nature (ask Kamui how many thousands of times I OMed directly behind him when he did a rising attack), and so on. I’m just talking from design perspective and saying that the wealth of defensive options available to everyone is what keeps VF balanced and allows supposedly low-tier Lion to make it to tourney finals. Even bottom-tier Blaze and Jeffry aren’t bad at all; Blaze is probably my favorite character and his 8p+k lets him avoid throw mixups, throw clashes, and totally punk anyone leaning too heavily on 2p. He has fun mobility options (Demon Dance, Venus Diversion) that can lead to combos or throw mixups, solid pokes and CH setups, damaging throws. He just lacks against fast characters or those with better range because he’s tiny. Then there’s Jeffry who lags a lot on sequences he depends on like 3pp or 43pp, but he has probably the best linear poke in the whole game (66k). Of course, like Akira, vulnerable to evasions, and like Blaze, vulnerable to more mobile opponents. So you throw the crap out of them instead, but if they TE a lot, back to square one.
Everyone having similar baseline defensive options keeps them all competitive, anything above that is icing on the cake, which is why you see Blaze and Lion doing OK in VF5 but you don’t see Kyosuke tearing up the CvS2 charts or Chun-Li rushing people down in MvC2. They don’t have the same options their upper-tier counterparts do…they’re barely playing the same game.
Since you sound like a Goh fan from your example, you should be happy with VF5.
Is Goh better in VF5?
Loads better, I’m even thinking of looking into him. Might be an interesting change from my old girl Sarah.
Wasn’t Sarah nerfed in VF5? Not that you would really mind, but still?
Brad, Goh, Vanessa, and Lei Fei are all MUCH better in VF5 (at least, from what I’ve read and watched). Oh, and even though I like watching good Goh players, I don’t like playing him (he feels really slow and un-combo-friendly, but still, he sorta makes up for it with his sabakis and throws).
Yeah, Sarah got raped. It’s kind of a continual thing. She was top in EVO, then got nerfed into Mid for FT, and Bottom in VF5 now :(.
AM2 hates blondies.
I’ll still play her but I might want to look into a secondary just in case.
When is this game coming out again? Feb something, I have it reserved and I’m looking forward to playing it but the no training and online play was a let down.
Specially the training mode cuz I’m completly new to the game.
