I like VF, but honestly i can’t justify buying it with No online play…
The main reason i bought DOA4, (which to my suprise is good) is because of online play. I just wanted to fight random people if it was kinda laggy here and there. So far im heck impressed with DOA4, Ive played plenty games that are lag free. Its a standard i expect to be followed now.
sega better play their cards right and wisen up. If they don’t include online play or at least some sort of online component (ie: uploading ghosts) then the game won’t do as well as it could.
Can’t wait for this to come out… I might actually purchase an xbox 360… In the mean time, i’m practicing w/ Shun on VF4 EVO. Any good site to go to for information on how to play?
Now thinking about it is the 500$model ps3 worth it?Everytime I look at a new vf5 vid on youtube is to fucking tempting.Speaking of vf,who is everyone main character?
and what tiny percentage of those will have VF5? and out of that, what tiny percentage will have working buttons and sticks? this is the exact reason i want online play for vf5. sure it wont be perfect, but its better than fighting a computer
i deffinetly understand why vf5 wont be perfect online
but why the fuck wouldnt you want it online? what the fuck is going on in this world, fucking hell man whats online play gonna do to you except create more eager victims for you
What’s funny is, the VF series has NEVER sold well in the states, simply because of the learning curve(chara design and distribution nonwithstanding). I don’t see why catering to the average player who most likely barely understands why DoA4 systems work will want to completely change their outlook and learn a more demanding fighter. DoA4 works online because it was never truly intended as a fighting game for the fighting game fans. Sega isn’t going to put this out there just to have a subculture of players that have no balls online that their primary customer will despise.
I have a very unique way of seeing how certain things will work, I live with 100+ Marines in my barracks, and I can see certain trends. There’s a bunch of people here that are afraind to play me in any fighting game(even ones I’m shitty in like Marvel) simply because the arcade scrub mentality has pretty much just changed into the @home scrub mentality. Remeber the guys that refused to get any better but would try to hog the machine with their friends so they can all mash together? Now they’re online playing their little group of friends getting their rank up that way, avoiding real comp. Is that really supporting the community?
Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see more people play VF, but a lot of people are not suited for it. Imagine the cries of cheap and all that other BS that comes with the average online player(tard)? There’s shit in VF that makes even mid-level and high-level players snarl, last thing I want to see is a bunch of people that won’t understand how to actually get better cry, and the last thing we need are inflated ranks.
R3ko said it in that other thread, but online really isn’t saving the community at all, or at least, it isn’t yet. In certain ways it’s hurting it in my eyes. But there’s no way around it. I think right now we’re gonna be in this phase until reliable high-speed connections become (a lot more) commonplace. I’d love for the time where the arcade and the home console can interface, bring your data home for practice, bring it back out to the arcade to test your skill. You know, like the old days. =/ Maybe I’m bitter, since I have to see both sides of the equation every day. I can’t count how many times I’ve offered up an arcade visit for some of the hopefuls, then they see the difference in skill level then go back to playing Halo and shit.
I just don’t know about online play. I do agree that they made the right choice. VF AI is pretty fucking good anyway.
Then again…Sega should do this and then force it to work only with Sega-made controllers so when these guys hurl them around Sega makes much $.
How can it if fighting games never give it any serious attention? It’s like everyone just threw up their hands from day one and said, “this wont’ work”. We’re lucky if anybody even half-asses online play at the last second
How is it that high-speed connections are common and reliable enough to support dozens of people running around big ass environments with all kinds of shit going on and still have the shit running like it was offline, but 2 people in a dinky ring is beyond today’s technology? DoA4 did a good job, especially if you had a small lobby. But instead of trying to build on that and put their names and product where the people are, fighting game devs would rather quietly release their games, blow off any real oppurtunity to build up their community/fanbase and then act like they can’t figure out why nobody’s buying their shit.
Frankly, I don’t get it. This is a situation where everybody can get what they want and be happy. Why does it have to be one or the other? No other genre’s acting like you gotta draw a line in the sand and pick a side. If fighting games can’t give people what they want, they’ll never pull them away from Halo or Gears of War
From my experience playing online fighters it seems things are getting more stable. In SFAE (not 3s) and CFE I cant even notice the lag if both people have good connections and are a reasonable distance from eachother. It’s that damn good in those games. I cant say the same for everything though. Sure the games can lag but thats going to happen if you play cross country and shit.
I’ve managed to play people in CVS and 3s with VERY good connections. You can notice a very very slight delay thats like not even noticable unless you try to notice it (like .1 second) when playing online but it’s still very playable. Thats with peeps not too far away though. Hit confirming in 3s when theres any noticable delay is impossible but with the absolute best connections it can be possible. Still it’s not the same as arcade
I play in arcades and tournaments also and I can say online really isnt that bad so long as people arent lagging shit up. Like I said CFE (even though it’s kinda boring) and AE are fucking amazing online so long as people dont have shitty connections or are cross country. I play my friend that’s 5 hours away and I press a button and that shit happens right away.
I do have a very fast connection though but sooner or later everyone will have good speeds. VF online could do well and I don’t see how it can hurt the game. It’s not like they’re going to remove the offline mode alltogether. Japan doesnt need it because they have arcades everywhere. If that was the case here I probably wouldnt play online. It’s just good for peeps with no comp and easy access to other players. I cant hop on a train every weekend to hit CF so when I cant make it I need to get my fighting game fix somehow.
