Dude, I saw you on stream and you didn’t do a single decent combo, and you were dropping combos left and right. You’re competition wasn’t great either, so you acting like you know the metagame already is quite out of place.
What do you guys normally start your combos with off a grab? I usually just go straight to launcher, but I’m guessing there are stronger options.
That was also the second tournament I had been at that day, after three hours of driving. Too many people are focusing on being lab geeks week one, I decided to work on pressure and proper zoning. I would pay money to see any other val player get through that mess of peacock the way I managed to with no prior matchup knowledge.
As for combo dropping, it’s a lot easier to do a combo in the comfort of your own home, online, playing with friends than it is to do one on stream with 2500 people watching, while commentators yell out your every mistake.
I do realize my stuff wasn’t great, but I couldn’t break 7.15 before I needed to leave (without more than one meter) so I just did my basic stuff and focused on lockdown. Worked out fine! I do intend to hit the lab tomorrow to get the real syringe stuff down. I spent today learning new Filia stuff.
edit: And Vinco was a very good player. I also played Master Chibi in three tourney sets as well. I had plenty of people who put time into the game play me in tournament. Who are you to judge other people?
The only time I start a combo with j.HP airdash j.HP is if I cross them up in the corner and just go for the double overhead. I get about 40% of my hits off of 2LK though. I get a good amount off of j.HP though, but against other valentines that go for that shit I just block high and get good results out of it. I wait until I see them hit the ground until I block low. I’ve gotten pretty good mileage off it. But most of my hits are 2LK, j.HP >>> item drop assist, j.MP, raw 5HP, 2MP, and 5HK anti-air.
Sometimes air to air j.LP rarely, but I’ve gotten some people just expecting me to use j.HP all the time so I’ll get that quickie in there.
I actually think raw c.hp is a very good option. You can do a lot of cool combos from raw launcher because it preserves the rest of your normals.
Also, guys, there is a PM system where you can sort out your differences without having to use this thread. Seriously, it’s just a game.
Yes, launcher is the best started off of throw without assists. otherwise with some single hit assists it’s better to start with 5HP
Raw c.hp is your most practical bet, but you can IAD j.hp if you’re feeling especially cheeky~
Yeah, dude. HK is a great anti-air & also a confirm. j.lp ata is good, j.mp is a good one+meaty, too. c.hp is an option not very used, but has payed off for me quite a bunch. j.hp is always expected in mirrors, it’s best to try to make use of both jumps & always stay above them, so you’re ouf their j.hp hitbox & sets them up for yours. Val mirrors with OmniSScythe had a lot of air positioning, it’s perdy crucial!
It’s also easier for me to confirm random hits into 5LP 2MP than 2LK 2MK from random air j.HP for obvious reasons.
I was playing a friend yesterday in my first real training against painwheel. j.hk wins the matchup free. ITS AMAZING.
And I definitely agree at c.hp raw for an opener. Jump happy Para’s get stuffed so hard.
Pain’s j.hk fly cancelling is a pain (pun intended) they trick me into pushblocking, causing a normal to come out -_
I stuff soul’s j.hp spam with j.lp/mp, they don’t open with anything else in the air__scrubs
Yeah. j.mp is insane for stopping people from air pressuring you. filia too, since you have a better arc.
Painwheel has ways to deal with j.HK. Her air armoured moves conveniently have 2 hits of armour, just enough to beat out j.HK. She also has an air invincible super and the ability to simply dodge it because of its kind of awkward startup, but you can always dash cancel it. Also if she has an assist like Napalm Pillar or Butt Slam you should be careful as any approach can be halted rather easily (obviously, but I’ll state it anyway haha).
j.HK is pretty damn good in general though. If you use it somewhat early, you really cover yourself, as long as it is at least blocked everything is good.
you can backdash and then cancel into qcfHK to beat super armor. Was doing it a lot today.
Who are you pairing up with Val? I’ve been trying to find a good secondary character for her lately. I was going to pick Ms. Fortune, but I heard that the NOM loop might be patched out so I’m dropping her.
Parasoul’s assist are really good. Think I’m rolling Valentine with st.hk assist with Parasoul on her pillar thingy.
j. mk is also good for beating Parasoul j. hp actually. Valentine becomes smaller for a second, and then kicks them after the hp comes out. It’s like Parasoul puts up a barrier and then its gone, and the mk hits horizontally past the opening. Try it!
