The Unofficial General Trading Card Game Thread: From Kitchen Table to the Shop

Honestly, it’s just a matter of what the hobby shop prefers. It’s not easy to get a shop to carry a new game due to the amount of investment and the chances of a Not-Top 3 TCG dying out or falling out of interest quick. With the TCGs I mentioned, other than UFS and MetaX, all of them are played in at least one of the hobby shops around my area, just not all in the same one.

I feel bad about UFS not being as supported, because I LOVE Darkstalkers and Mega Man and Cowboy Bebop, great properties that are put to good use (artwise and mechanicswise) in the game. The problem I have with it is I feel like the “Fighting game as a card game” was kind of solved with Battlecon (which ALSO got a set for UFS with Indines) and kind of with Yomi and Exceed. Those just feel more like fighters than UFS does.

As for DBSTCG. its not just Mecha Frieza as a leader (you shouldnt be allowed to have free card advantage and effects from killing yourself), but also the idea that protective blanket effect characters can protect themselves. Barrier was a needed mechanic cause there was too much blow up in the game but you cant just take away interactivity between the other player and the card thats doing it. Bibidi doesnt do that (he just gives buus barrier), why should King Vegeta? Plus it doesnt help that Bandai gave all of the mass blow up cards that would typically interact with them “Choose All”. Why would you “Choose All”?! Just say “all”! And sacrifice effects dont work either because the way the game takes it is that its your opponents card choosing the effect, not you yourself being forced to do it. its dumb.

Still good card game though, just dumb wordings and rulings cause its a typical japanese TCG and they dont typically playtest their cards enough. Though it feels like in this day and age, where even MTG banning stuff in standard was considered unthinkable awhile back, I dont know if ANYBODY is testing their shit anymore and just making stuff up as they go along.

Yeah DBS TCG can go in to trash category with Dual Masters, Yugioh and most Japanese TGCs as they don’t play test anything and the game really unbalanced

Lol it isn’t just Japan, the Fate/Kaleid Weiss Scwars set has one card which got fucked up in translation where they somehow went from a support card giving all of your front row +500 power when you have 4 or more cards in hand to giving them +1500 power.

Damn that was one hell of a letdown when I found out that shit was a mistranslation and had been erattaed.

Yea, at this juncture I can’t think of a major TCG that doesn’t just rush things through. Wizards QA for Kaladesh was almost non existent if I believe everything I’ve read and heard. No idea how it is, but considered how they have ruined almost every in the past 2 years minus challenger decks I have little faith it’ll get better.

I think the advent of “F2P” card games has made traditional models like Mtg very unstable as time goes on, but that’s been argued for years now and MtG keeps on going somehow so idk.

Lol, also realized you’re the dude I was talking to in the DBSTCG discord.

And Mecha Frieza goes down HARD. Will still get the last regional but after that, the deck will have to completely change.
