good point…
Coaches should have a consensus on who should be able to enter.
I’m just saying… I want to see someone who actually practiced and improved their game take it all rather than someone who is right below top 4 wreck house. I see it as people who are in that skill level not really gaining as much as the others who lack footsies, punishment, execution, mind games and so on. Personally I think I lack mind games and reaction, and I know for sure that this wouldn’t be the event for me to improve those. Different people learn in different ways.
what about locking character selection? you may be competent with your main but maybe not another…
i am curious on peoples opinion on this…
Come to think of it, TUF is geared towards NEW people wanting a UFC contract so it does make sense to exlude some players…
Locking character selection would make you learn more about your characters matchups, but I don’t think it should be done.
- You can change characters in a real tourney setting and it pays off sometimes. Counterpicking happens and people need to know how to deal with it when its done to them, when to do it, and when not to do it.
- Not everyone sticks to one character. Some people go between 1-2 characters. Some even more
Even though Vince put me on the intrested list, I’m gonna confirm it. I really want to level up…cuz currently my punish/execution/mind game skills are lacking so much. As long as this tourney is not on a day I have to work (if the day isn’t final already and next weekend will be great for me), I’ll definitely be there.
If I can make it to the qualifier, I’d be interested.
Well I don’t exactly know how the skill level pans out of people around here but I think the deciding of players that will not be eligible for TUSF should be voted on by everyone but also the coaches should have the final say. I think they should be able to talk about it and agree who should and shouldn’t be in it because they will know where people stand more then anyone. Due to players having ego’s or wanting to get into TUSF they might not vote correctly but I feel the top players will have a clearer, non/less bias opinion on who shouldn’t be eligible due to how good the candidates actually are instead of other reasons. You could also maybe do a reverse type of voting where instead of voting for who should be out of it, have everyone vote who they think should be in it and why.
Maybe another thing that should be thought about is since this whole movement is to help SoVA get better as a community, what will the players actually do with their new found skills. After players get better then they should maybe be expected to help out players that are below them, instead of just only selfishly thinking of themselves. That way it would keep everyone progressing forward in the community instead of just the 8 that make it through to TUSF.
Another thing to think of is what are people going to do once they get better, for example, why train someone and get them better if they don’t plan on going to any tourneys, or even casuals whatsoever? I’m not talking about people that can’t get to tourneys due to financial reasons/work/transportation, but I mean people that just don’t care to go to any tourneys or casuals. Why go through the time to train someone to get better just so they can return to being an online warrior and not really contribute to the progress of the community? (I don’t really think this will be much of a problem but just a thought)
Just to let people know, nothing in here was really directed at anyone or anything like that, just brainstorming a bit and maybe it will help make the deciding process a bit easier and maybe bring up some other ideas.
this man is bringing up alot of good points, this man should also be a part of this thing, cause i know this dude been traveling getting better…
i was just saying to someone else… jinx and tilter should be in no matter what they need some help and they have been trying to get better more then anyone i have ever seen here in sova… real talk…
I’d like to participate, I need to level up pretty badly and my summer is pretty open. I would be concerned about scheduling as I work a full time job and would need to know in advance about when events are taking place because I need to schedule the days off in order to show up.
My opinion…
Eligibility: Everyone
If you want to get in on this, get in. If you don’t, sit out. Your current skill level isn’t a factor. I’d say if this is successful, we’ll do it again. There’s plenty of players in SOVA, and more enough to get 3 rounds of 8 people into 3 different competitions if not more. That being said, do your best to get in on this one! All people who compete in season 1, should not be eligible for season 2. I think there should be a tournament to determine the top 8… Or at least a preliminary draw (if 16 people show up, have 8 matches to eliminate 8 people and go from there…) A double elim bracket would be more fair, but who cares about fairness! The real world isn’t fair!
The fees:
Venue fee is $2 to play at games and trade. Certainly reasonable for a private, spacey, clean, air conditioned establishment for an entire night of fun and games.
The actual tournament fee: Having a pot split between the final victor and the coach would be sweet. It gives everyone a LITTLE bit of incentive to go for it and do their best. Same idea as a money match… shit gets realer, and more Hype! I’d actually vote to move this to $10 a head, so the winners could split $50 a piece, but that’s just me.
The Format: 1 fight a week would make this a 7 week competition (4 quarters, 2 semis, 1 finals). I’d say drop that to a 4 weeker. 2 sets of quarters on week 1 and 2, week 3 is both semis, and then the finals on week 4. Having a two week gap in between the preliminary matches/tournament and week 1 would be nice to get a good amount of training time in. Quarters should be first to 5, semis, first to 7. Finals, first to 10. Coaches can battle it out as exhibition afterward too :} oh, and coaches should commentate the matches too on the stream
That’s all I can think of right now.
i’m interested
i wish i could do this but life has me by the balls right now. i hope everyone who participates in this gets some learning experience though this. $7 will be worth the learning experience if you try and strive to learn.
