The Ultimate Storm Thread v2.01 (Updated 2020.07.25)

LOL i meant Storm being played as a X_FACTOR character, i think that’s where her true potential lies being controversial

Ahhhhh, I see I see. My bad.

Storm is definitely an X-Factor character much like how Dante is. I can settle on her being that but they still could have looked at her and see she wasn’t done.

I find this humorously applicable and timely:

So ChrisG still has the highest number of wins? Or is it Jwong?

Admittedly, I haven’t been paying too much attention to Marvel tournaments outside of a few players these days. I’m sure Chris has a higher kill count, but I think Wong places higher during the higher-stakes events. Not entirely sure.

Chris has the most first place finishes in UMvC3 but I don’t think that includes the high stakes tourneys like EVO or anything on that level. Nowadays, in my opinion anyways, there are way too many “big” tourneys for me to count to decide which ones are high stakes enough or not.

Hey guys, I’m thinking about picking up Storm. I’m wondering though, does she work well with Missiles? I’m trying to explore the V.Joe/Storm pairing a bit (Six Cannon > Ice Storm is potentially assist-killing) and I might try the pair with Missiles in the back. Any tips are appreciated, thanks.

As for me, I think Storm/Missiles is okay. I could see the Doom assist chosen for Storm being matchup-dependent, with the general order of usefulness being Plasma Beam/Missiles/Molecular Shield.

Missiles isn’t as general use for Storm as it is for most other characters just because Storm has a hard time protecting Doom while moving forward to take advantage of people blocking or making missteps because of Missiles. Storm typically stays back and covers assists with the intention of not approaching or she uses assists to grant her avenues of approach. The primary benefit of Missiles is that it gives your current point character a few seconds of generally risk-free pressure. Unfortunately (as I see it), Storm doesn’t make too much use of this due to the relatively safe nature of her blockstrings and confirms.

I think Storm honestly prefers Plasma Beam (generally) since it blows open paths for her on the screen that she can’t pry open by herself. Joe/Storm is a FANTASTIC combination (especially if you want to play lame). If your gameplan revolves around not ever really moving forward, Missiles might be what you’re looking for since Storm can protect Doom from fullscreen, but not while also moving forward with the intention to mount an offense. On the other hand, Missiles does have another big strength, which is firing the assist when people are waking up and moving in on them to apply pressure before they can retaliate (unless they can employ a YOLO reversal). With this, Storm gets some mixup going and can then extend her pressure once Missiles start dropping onto the opponent. If you want, you can create a small gap between the first pressure string and the missile contact and use Storm’s first-class mobility to create a one-shot four way mixup.

Overall, I think Missiles can work, but I think it’s just okay. You can choose to use it very technically, but I feel that Joe doesn’t offer Storm too much in terms of a neutral game to make up for the neutral assistance that Missiles generally lacks. If you want to play a very barebones and extremely technical Storm that has tricks and traps on wakeup and corner situations, then Shocking Pink/Hidden Missiles is probably your assist combination of choice. Ororo won’t have too much help on the field until you start hitting people, but when you do get those assists out, you can do some very interesting things. Again, Hidden Missiles is also solid if you plan on chipping and laming out your opponent. If you want some neutral assistance, I recommend Plasma Beam over Missiles generally, since Plasma Beam lets Storm move horizontally–something she usually cannot do without putting herself at risk.

Thanks for the advice  I do generally play a very lame Joe… so I would try to use Storm with a similar style. You’re right about Joe not helping her out too much. That’s really his biggest downfall, his support value is pretty low. The only thing he would offer is a DHC from Storm’s cinematic super in the corner to Viewtiful Godhand (slow super). It’s not a bad answer to dealing with low damage, and Joe gets a good mixup opportunity using Storm’s assist afterwards.

I think I’ll try her out in casuals a bit, especially to see how well assist sniping works. If I find some good synergy, I’ll report anything.

It’s a good one actually. as the opponent is busy bloking missiles, Storm could possible dash to the opposite direction and start a combo

Anyone still post here? I want input on meaties as they relate to Storm. I have a couple but again this is no SF

Share it to us.

I’ll have to do it once I’m done modding my stick

Alright.

Is Jwong playing in the top 8?

Alright, here’s the deal.
