Marvel Vs Capcom 2. It’s a tournament staple. Nearly every year the game has been played at the Evolution Championship Series. With 56 different characters, and a different play style for almost every one of them, it’s a pretty big roster. And say what you want about high level play, it’s still fun to see the ROM infinite after all these years. But in 2011, when Capcom released Marvel Vs Capcom 3, to some fans dismay, and others’ pleasure, MvC 2 was all but dead, with only the best of the best still playing online and at local tournaments. The game had a good run. There still may be some dedicated players who play this game religiously, but they’re the ones who’ve stuck with this game since 2000. The legacy of MvC 2 is only in match videos or living on in local tourneys.
That’s where my project comes in. You see, the first time I played MvC 2 was back in 2007. No idea what it was or how to play. Just found it at an arcade in OKC, and chose Ryu, Mega Man, & Strider. I got my ass handed to me, to say the least. As I went back more and more, I found out about this game. Bought a Dreamcast, and played it til it broke. Then in 2010, when my mom was training for a marathon, I stopped at the arcade to drop a couple hundred dollars on the game. Again. It was then and there I met a tournament player whose name I can’t remember, who kicked my ass so fucking hard with Storm, Silver Samurai, & Psylocke that I cowered in fear every time I played it, fearing he’d come back. And to that man who kicked my ass, sorry for being such a scrub ass scrub. I had gotten into the game too late. I started watching more and more tournament footage, including 2010’s Evo MvC 2 finals. But when MvC 3 came out was when I had decided to get into MvC 2 professinally, learning about frame traps, good assists, and 8-way airdashes.
To make a long story short, I need the communitys help. Every MvC 2 player, old or new, please help contribute to this thread so we can keep MvC 2’s legacy. Upload your best match footage, old or new, infinites, glitches, Tool assisted runs, or even modifications for the DC version. There might be other tribute sites or threads on the net, but i want this one to be the most well known. Help me any way you can, whether it be by organizing online or local tournaments, playing some matches online, or just plain talk about nostalgic memories of MvC 2.
But enough about me, what do you guys think about this? Is it cool? Is it Stupid? Am I Stupid for trying to do this? Is MvC 2 really that great a game? Am I just a hipster trying to look cool. Let me know what you think.
