Can someone please explain the air plink-dashing into Magnetic blast to me?
This tutorial came out a while ago, which I thought was pretty cool:

But after watching it, the video’s not clear at all. I think the creator is misunderstanding the technique.
In the video, at 0:53 the creator says that plink dashing in the air is “faster”, and this is why he plinks his buttons even while doing a single airdash.
This seems like a total misunderstanding to me–nothing about plinking would speed up your dash animation on the ground or in the air. Plink dashing on the ground helps you cancel from one dash to another more quickly, which is why it allows for faster overall movement than wavedashing. In fact, if you look at the comparison in the video between a regular airdashed and a plinked airdash…I can’t see a difference! He just dashes lower to the ground the second time.
So my question is: what is the point of plinking while doing air dash magnetic blast? What am I misunderstanding?
If I try to super jump and do air-dash down forward into magnetic blast L, it seems like I always land before the magnetic blast comes out. Will plinking help me with this or what?
plinking the magnetic blast will make it come out faster when you ADDF
opposed to manually inputting it after you dash
I don’t think plink dashing speeds up the animation. It’s just useful when you fly so you can air dash forward/backwards multiple times instead of UF DF UF DF
going to a session this weekend with some of hte best players in the south (RoachKing, TooMuchDamage, SumBrwnKid, the GGC boys, and some more GA players. expect vids up sometime next week.
There’s no arcade cab that we’re practicing to play on. I use a M+H for a couple reasons on a couple characters. Fly loops especially and dash blasts, some dante things, viper focus~dash.
Yeah, the dude’s video is mixing lots of stuff up and in the end doesn’t explain plink Blasts.
I wrote a YT comment when I first saw the vid explaining why his vid was wrong/messed up but thought fuck it because I couldn’t be arsed being ‘that guy’ over it.
Anyway, a down forward plink blast is inputted by doing this;
:u::uf::f::df: :h:~:l:
(As shown in the vid BMs posted above).
You’re doing one Mag Blast motion, and as soon as possible after you are inputting an air dash followed on the next frame by any other normal to make the Mag Blast come out. The preferred Blast is the L one, so naturally you want to perform the air dash with M+H.
To start you just want to get the blast to come out at all after the directional inputs, so you just gotta make sure;
that you complete the motion before you press the buttons;
that you don’t scuff your air-dash button inputs; and,
that you press them and follow up with the plink cleanly.
The technique gets easier with macros of course (regardless of whether you think they’re fraudulent or not), but in the end you just have to drill them over and over to get them.
My drills involve normal jumping and inputting the :u::uf::f::df: :h:~:l:.
Because it’s a normal jump you go up and come down again fast like you were tri-dashing, and you know if you inputted it correctly because you hear the noise the Blast makes and Magneto starts saying the move.
And like any drills, start off aiming to do 3 in a row, then 5, 10 yada yada until you’re comfortable with it.
when you do a perfect 8963 + MH without pressing L attack the first Mag Blast is Kara cancelled. you will see a purple flash above magneto’s shoulders indicating you did everything correct and you just need to add the L attack.
I’m a magnes/Vergil/wesker player who is thinking about dropping wesker for doom hidden missiles for a better assist and to help counter the morrigan matchup, but I need to know something first, can doom missiles otg for magneto if the combo ends mid screen?
It’s a waste to use doom missiles to extend mags combos. It’s more effecient using it post DHC for an extra round trip loop with vergil. BM is correct in that there’s really no reason your mag combos should be ending midscreen. That being said, there are probably multiple ways you could use missiles as an extender midscreen, but nothing is going to be as derp of an OTG as wesker pistol.
Why cant I magnetic blast consistently?? i can do any damn thing there is with magneto except magnetic blast… wth is wrong with me… I dunno if its my hand position on the stick or what? But Im having the hardest damn time to get magnetic blast to come out. Especially as 1p… Can someone shed some light or give a little advice? How’s your hand positioned when you perform a magnetic blast? Do you start with up or ub or b? I cant level up anymore till iget this shit goin…
Just start on the ground, hold :u: and roll your stick around like :u::uf::f: for a while doing normal jumps. Forget about the Blasts just get a bit more comfortable with the motion first facing both sides first.
After that start trying to get the Blasts out slowly and then faster as you go on.
Then try dashing before you input the blast and get a feel for that as well.
Just like anything there’s nothing more to it than how you practise it.
I suppose this is as good a place as any to say that I’m grateful to have such talented peers to converse with/bounce ideas off of in the Magnus community and SRK forums in general.
Hope everyone has a Magnetic Christmas and a Swagtastic New Year.
You guys are the best character subforum. So much tech and discussion and much to be learned from you all. Cheers! And make a godlike guide as a new years gift!
