The ULTIMATE, Friendly-Neigborhood, Spider-man Team-building Thread

I was messing around with Spidey/Mags/Doom in the training room the other day. I mostly focused on how to get around the screen with Magneto. Overall, he seemed very floaty in comparison to the other characters I have used and Magnetic Blast was awkward as hell at first. For some reason, I couldn’t do Maggie’s ground plink dash as consistently or fluidly as spidey’s, but his flight plink dashes were a lot easier than Doom’s because I could use :h:. Even though Magneto’s infinite may be easy and he has a really good set up for a clean guard break with two meters, I don’t know if I want to put in all the time and effort to learn him because he seems like he would be kind of difficult to get the hang of. Also, I think plasma beam is a lot better for spidey than EM disruptor as an assist. I would get big damage since I would have Hidden Missiles though. I’m not exactly sure if I should put a bunch of time and effort just so I can have that one guard break set up and an easy infinite (I almost have Doom’s down anyway, and his does a ton of damage). On the other hand, there really isn’t any harm in learning more characters and more teams. What do you guys think?
My main team right now is Spider-man (web ball)/Doom (beam)/Strider (vajra) btw, so let me know if you think my main team is just as good or better than Spidey/Mags/Doom

Hey Desk, nothing wrong with learning another character and making him work out. In fact it can benefit you, perhaps Strider has a bad matchup against someone, and you can pull him in favor of Mag’s. As long as you are enjoying your time learning him- then it’s time well spent.

You can still get large damage with beam you just have to work a little harder which there’s nothing wrong with that. One thing I do hate about this game though is assist are too combo based and less utility based. Running beam is a lot better than missiles in general. You don’t get as many things off it, such as double TAC options at the end of combos, double crawler assault combos, or three to four more web throws etc. The trade off though is you get an assist punish, a stronger horizontal, and a combo extender to still allow extra web throws though not as many. Everything else is made up for with your other character, TAC’s, and general understanding of Spidey.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I appreciate it. I think I will just go ahead and learn this team.
@Fatal Grace Yeah I agree. I think that learning a new character can ONLY benefit me. I mean the only thing I’m losing is time, and at the moment the only character that I’m really new to and that I’m really just understanding now is Strider. Plus learning Magnus might help me understand the Magneto matchup. Also, I do sometimes enjoy getting shit down in training mode more than playing matches.
@xero Yeah it’s possible to get pretty good combo extension on slightly smaller combos, but at the end of a full combo, there is too much hitstun to do anything more than OTG xx Maximum spider or OTG, land, spider-bite/sting. I think what really gets a huge boost from missiles is airthrows. You can get up to 800k iirc with missiles off of an air throw. Also, Although EM Disruptor is much less durable than plasma beam, I hope it can make up for it with its speed.

EM Disruptor helps more when you are already on their ass because of how fast it starts and recovers.

Personally the thought of using Doom or Mags makes me vomit in my mouth… But to each their own! I’m glad your branching out and enjoying your time… That’s most important, and I’ve always found, messing around with a character is a great way to find limitations and openings for your team in the matchup… Tee off and enjoy!

Yeah I figured it would be better for block strings and keeping the pressure compared to plasma beam. I’m always afraid that I will get happy birthday’d if I call plasma beam up close. Maybe I could dash in and jab just to get them in block stun so I could call Disruptor and pressure them from there. It would help if spider-man could pick up off ground throws though lol.

Is it because you hate fighting those two? I feel the same way about Vergil lol. I will never want to play that character. Anyway, I just went back and played around with Spidey/Magneto/Doom, I can plink dash on the ground with him pretty fine. I’m not sure what was up before. Also, I like picking up new characters for some reason. I find it pretty rewarding to see myself improve with a character.

Desk- I play online, and every other match has at least one of the following characters (SAY IT WITH ME!!):
-Doom
-Zero
-Vergil
-Spencer
-Magneto
-Wesker
-some type of combo of al or any of the above listed… I swear, one match I fought a guy who was using Zero/Vergil/Dante/Wesker… Crazy right???

The only way I will play any of the above listed is if they took Petey out of the game, gave any of the above Spidey threads and taught them to sling webs!! I would not have even done those characters missions- however, it does kind of help seeing what they can pull off.

Just playing against all types of players from trash- to good is fun for me. But man, when I come across a team, composed of 3 characters that are NOT listed above- I almost don’t know what to do : “Am I seriously playing against another person and not hearing FOOT DIIIVE, Biomeeeeec arrrrrrarm, or ha, ha, ha, every 3 seconds?!”

Man I’m posting late…or early I guess? Anyways, I finally started playing Ultimate again after finding out I have a KOF scene down here (needed something else to play besides KOF and Persona). I decided to fully learn Deadpool this time around, so I’m going with Spidey B/Ammy B/Deadpool ***a. ***Reason for Quick Work on Deadpool? Unblockables whenever I get in. Any thoughts on this team would be much appreciated as I’m extremely rusty!

@Omnix:
Nice team man. Running a pixie team you need solid defense. Running the dog second means you have good switch from Maximum Spider into her super. I would recommend learning the drop distance from Maximum Spider to Deadpools Happy Trigger Super to ensure it connects properly. Also- Deadpool has an infinite- as the last character and on x-factor, he can juggle the opponent to death with quick work M & H. Just getting familiar with that is good for a clutch/humiliating win. Practice, enjoy, have fun, and don’t switch it up when you hit the rough patches… Stick with it

Thanks! After some experimentation, I actually found out that Spider Sting gives Ammy some nice combo extensions, so I’m gonna run that instead. Now I just have to make sure I can Kara Spider Sting 100% of the time, learn my teleport/bola loops with Deadpool, and I’ll be good to go.

Have fun out there- Thwip, Thwip, Chimmichanga!!!

Edit: not sure where I got 800k off airthrow from, I was probably thinking of vajra assist, not airthrow.
Edit again: Shit, I hit reply not edit. My bad.

It’s a pretty decent team but has weak DHC damage from MS to Phantom Dance. Strange bolts assist is better for Wesker than unibeam assist because you can sneak in command grabs in between bolts but IM’s unibeam assist is way better than bolts for Spidey because of its lockdown and properties.

Spidey, Strange and Iron Man are not easy to learn and will not net you wins compared to other top tier characters. Similar, easier versions of the three imo, would be Spidey = Spencer, Iron Man = Nova and Strange = Phoenix.

I actually run Spidey, Iron Man, Strange and my win/loss ratio is actually pretty damn good. Strange bolts assist makes it easier to glide across the screen, but the only problem is keeping him safe. I found that web ball/web throw zone is good for getting strange out and it also pends your opponent down. Web ball canceling into web zip also prevents birthdays when jump/tridash happy opponents wanna take advantage of Strange lingering bolts assist(i rather call Iron Man with repuslor assist if opponents are too close). Also, personally speaking Iron Man with bolts isnt that bad, i get a lot of ADD light confirms with the right pressure and ADF j.down Heavy with opponents wanna duck the assist. Overall that teams is not a bad team, but it has flaws. I enjoy playing that team though, b/c its an all Avenger team d^^

I have experience with the team as well.

Conversely Hush, if you want a lockdown or AA assist (IM’s RB), and beam (Strange Bolts), you could also run close assist as Strange EoA and stick unibeam on IM.
When I first ran Spidey and Strange I ran Strange w/ EoA… But I feel Spidey is just too damn… All over the place to use it properly, so I switched to bolts.

so yeah guys i’m actually taking point spidey seriously. i now have a good gameplan with him and i’ll start to play him in a session this weekend. the new team is spiderman(sting)/magneto(emd)/sentinel(drones) or doom(missiles) anchor. good assists/characters covering a lot of spideys bad match ups as well giving me some sweet options for spiderman. even though a lot of my combos now end at around 600k-720k, i don’t tend to use any supers except for uwt since i’m getting over 900k-1mil just from doing that and then the follows up afterwards etc.

good combos into resets, tac infinites and beam traps. i never knew spiderman was this fuckin sick before doing my research lol

You can get more damage out of missiles. You should be averaging 800k with Doom alone. He also allows for late double TAC setups.

I think he is talking about with sentinel because his video in the combo thread was around 700k and he could have gotten an extra 40k-80k depending on if he used a kara sting.

He just said his new team is S/M/D
