The ULTIMATE, Friendly-Neigborhood, Spider-man Team-building Thread

that´s the problem only work in corner, but good job

for me, dark hole > purification

I don’t play Marvel 2, but I look back at it for ideas and I like to compare the team construction between the two games. I like to try to forget it because I just can’t get Dormammu to work for me. =\ Also, slap yo’self for not texting me yo twitter so I can put it on my next video FOO!!!

Hmm… well, for the first team, I’d say the two assists backing Spidey up are a bit too redundant; Shopping Cart and Rapid Slash are both used to provide lockdown and horizontal space control. If Vergil has another assist that would help Spidey or an assist that allows Frank to get two snapshots after raw tag or DHC from Maximum Spider, I’d say that would be preferred. I do see the use for Rapid Slash behind Frank though, as Frank does have a very difficult time trying to get in on most zoning characters.

I don’t know much about Ghost Rider or Shuma, but I would think that Ghost Rider is the type of character that is a lot stronger when he has two assists to back him up… I don’t think he’s that strong of a mid. I’m assuming Mystic Ray is the assist chosen for Shuma, and while that is a strong assist for space control, Shuma’s probably not a very strong anchor in terms of comeback potential, nor do I believe that Mystic Ray is a strong *enough *assist to make Shuma the supporting structure for that team.

For Spidey/Vergil/Taskmaster, I don’t see much wrong with it. You can pretty much put the team in any order that you desire and it will work (depending on how confident you are with anchor Spidey… it’s not something that you’d want to rely on, but it works at times). If you are having a difficult time against characters that spend a lot of time in the air, you can actually switch Taskmaster’s assist to Vertical shot; it not only provides *amazing *air control, but it also gives great hit confirms and space control on the way down. I actually forgot to add that I played Spidey (b)/Doctor Doom (a)/ Taskmaster (y) last night as well and it worked wonders!

For Spidey/Vergil/Iron Man, I really don’t like Iron Man in the back, unless you’re playing a synergy as strong as Spidey-Dormammu. The reason being that Iron Man doesn’t function very well without a lockdown assist, and it’s even worse when he’s your only character left and you already burned up X-Factor. If you are to ever run Iron Man on a Spider-man team, you WANT WANT WANTTTT to run Repulsor Blast because of its easy pick-ups, insane combo extension, fantastic air control, unique lockdown potential, and to top it all off, it takes great advantage of Spidey’s left-right mixup potential. If you really want a beam assist, pick Thor, Doom, or Magneto.

if you’re running ironman/unibeam last, you’re basically relying on your first 2 chars with unibeam to win. i’m being completely serious here when i’m saying i recommend first, not using ironman, second, using ironman with missiles or drones, and only then third, using ironman as an anchor.
i don’t think unibeam is a good enough assist for spiderman because he doesn’t do a lot of damage but DHCing to vergil does a bunch of damage so if you are capable of creating some sort of kill combo off of unibeam, that’s the only time i can see it being worth it.

spidey/vergil/frank is the order i would run that team, i haven’t looked into the setups yet but i am pretty sure it is stronger that way. i don’t think it is that competitive in general with spiderman on it but it is very fun.

GR/shuma is… not good, but it is fun, and it is quite strong online. i’m not going to recommend it, as i believe if you are running spidey/gorath on a team your middle character has to be doom or wesker, or at least a very solid character like a taskmaster, vergil, etc.

i use ironman unibeam assist last. i use it cause it keeps some assist in check like doom missile and sent drone for easy happy birthdays.

Can Spiderman/Felicia work? i love ironman but hes just too weak of an anchor

I think so. unblockables with rolling buckler are easy to pick up off of if you hit confirm with St. L. if you’re using sand splash, it can clear the way for web throws or web balls. its also a combo extender.

i really dont know what to think of felicia. strong anchor and has 2 decent assists but nothing special. if you can setup unblockables consistently then her low assist is pretty useful, otherwise her otg assist is ok for combos. but really i don’t see the point in using her for a lot of teammates and i just feel like spiderman doesn’t benefit from her much at all.

hmm…I’m still thinking about the 2nd team, either change the Ghost Rider into Wesker and pick Shuma at 2nd or change Shuma into other notable anchor, but dunno why, in Spidey team, I didn’t really like to pick Wesker, because sometimes his OTG assist are didn’t hit the opponent(well, sometimes in same character and same timing D: ), that’s why I prefer to use Ghost Rider assist
or maybe I must played Spidey team without using DHC tech for making more damage(well, honestly I’m really jealous with other char that can 1 touch kill, or has great mixup w.o assist)
so, is just me or all of you think it’s difficult to make a great synergy of Spidey Team? I already pick him from Vanilla Marvel 3 but until now, I didn’t find the great team for Spidey

I could easily stumble upon what I think is the best Spidey team in Ultimate, but I’m after a more balanced team and I don’t have fun playing half of the characters that would make Spidey better. Instead, I just use my two favorite characters and a viable character with an assist that benefits those two and reflects my style.

i can’t comment on best spidey team because i still have a lot of playing to do. i honestly think my current team, spider/doom/strider, is very strong, but it isn’t as overwhelming as the top, but i think it has a good chance of winning most matchups, and vajra does help a little vs matchups like morrigan, zero.

You sir, should pick - Spidey, Hawkeye, Doom!

The thing about Spidey, as far as teams go, he sets up for many different character attributes. On point he will always be a battery type but you can easily build a team around him to support his attributes or you can use him to attribute/setup for other characters gimmicks. For example Spidey/Felicia/xx is more so a Felicia based team then it is a Spidey team. I’ll give it to Phantasy on what he said about the assist. Her low hitting assist has an awkward timing since it hits twice I believe, the ball then the low, so you have to attack accordingly. Poop, er, Sand Splash OTG’s but Spidey doesn’t need an OTG assist and it only really set’s up an extra web throw or CA, both of which Spidey can do by himself. The strength in the two is the fact that Spidey can build meter for her and depending on who your third is do a good 600 to 700K meterless, sometimes more, and easily end the combo with a move that will allow you to raw tag into Felicia to either extend with her (shorter combos) or reset with her into Kitty Helper super (longer combos). That’s one of her strengths on that team. I played Spidey/Felicia/Doom for a little bit but I never liked her assist

As for strongest Spidey team, at this point there’s not really one. Spidey/Dorm/Doom is pretty fucking strong, I’d argue one of the best, and comes with two stronger characters backing Spidey that allow him to get extra web throws and spider stings off of any of Spidey’s combos, and just absolute amazing synergy between the three. Am I biased right now, ye and nae (look at my avatar). The team is balanced in such a way that it covers horizontal and vertical and can be played in your face, midscreen, or from afar… when you’ve actually practiced it and know what you’re doing :razzy: but it’s also good because it really can turn a random hit into a good damaging combo for each character that can lead to death.

Spidey/xx/Dante- Jam Session would be just as much of a pain as any other team as well. Dante just has that ridiculousness about him while providing an awesome fullscreen vertical assist that can be used offensively and defensively. The duo are interchangeable in combos and build stupid meter together, more so going from Spidey to Dante than visa versa, but you also have inescapable UWT setups going from Dante to Spidey via DHC (Devil Trigger after reset into UWT). Your middle character is what’s going to set this teams dynamic. Dante’s assist is just that versatile that you can easily throw someone like Morrigan in there and use her just to zone turning the whole team into a runaway based team. At the same time, if you’re a Sentinel fan (ugh) but also like MvC2 (:wgrin: ) and you wanted to play a style close to Santhrax, you could easily fit Sentinel in there and play it very similarly.

There’s lots of options to explore still with him and other characters. Speaking of which, I may go back to MvC2 style MSS, and use Spidey Storm Sentinel-RP. It’s all rushdown truly but I forgot how good RP was in certain situations that can still be forced in MvC3. Fucking CotA-94 model.

hmm…maybe in next train lab project, I will try all team suggestion from all of you, thx
if that’s fail too, maybe I better comeback playing Spidey-Ghost Rider-Shuma Gorath/Vergil, because for me, this team is the most suitable team for me

As far as synergy with spiderman teams go you are pretty much hitting the nail on the head. To put it bluntly spiderman just doesn’t work with a large majority of the “good” characters. Dorm running in the second slot is arguably one of his best teammates and in reality not many characters can function well in that anchor slot.

I have come to the conclusion that Nova’s Nova Strike assist is worth it for Spidey. I don’t know if that assist has been brought up yet, but you can do some damage with that assist, even if it hits from mid-screen

And I would highly disagree. Centurion Rush is better in every way possible and is far more versatile.

I’d like use Nova’s Nova Strike in my former Frank West team, I think Nova Strike are not bad, but it’s still better use Centurion Rush I think

btw, I’d like to use Spider Man(Web Ball)-Iron Man(Repulsor Blast/Unibeam if I played Wesker in Anchor)-Vergil(Rapid Slash)/Wesker(Samurai Edge), what do you think about this team?(well, I’ve just thinking to use Iron-Man’s Smart Bomb, but I think that assist are not smart like it’s name  )

come on now, centurion rush hits high… that’s huge

imo shouldn’t play ironman. spidey/vergil/wesker is a perfectly fine team to learn to play.

Go with Centurion Rush, infinite groundbounce is infinitely more useful and you save your wallbounce for Post CA combos if need be. Plus it hits high and comes out in less than 10000000000000000 frames.

Parker’s 3 best friends are Dorm/Doom/Hawkeye, can’t really go wrong with any of those three, and I think they all play fairly well with each other too. Other guys that do work well are Magnus, a Nova/Frank shell, and Dante. They provide solid assists and good damage. There’s more, but yeah.

In a “this character provides an extension and TOD’s because Capcom doesn’t know how to do hitstun properly across the board,” Vergil too.

I feel like his best loadout is a good projectile to help him get in and work an annoying pressure game, as well as an extender so you can make the most of several situations, not just “clean hits”. That said, everyone has their opinions and playstyles so there’s going to be different takes on it. There’s no definitive way to play him yet because there hasn’t been anything so much more dramatically effective than something else. Plus, people haven’t game-planned for us yet, either because top level Parkers are few and far between, and/or they still think he’s worse than Shuma.

I think the character is limited in who he works extremely well with, but that’s what makes him so interesting. He’s not gonna work well with the best characters, especially in a support role. I think that’s because he’s not made to run anywhere OTHER than point, so it’s kinda moot (who else’s combos get harder the higher the XF goes :lol). I like the imperfections on this Spider-Man though. He’s far more novel than he used to be in old Marvel games, and plays like a spider would (*smirk). It also makes me get more creative in setups and reads, so there is rarely a time I feel a step behind or not in control of a match. It took a while, but it has become effective enough that I have no qualms taking a Spider-Man team to a tourney and thinking I can do serious damage.

But hey, these are just opinions. I picked 2 characters I like in Vanilla and worked around it, until Hawkeye came and then I could play 3 characters I like that just happen to work especially well as a full team, and as a scumbag comeback team once Parker dies :3

I’d like to play it, but I don’t think that Vergil are good at 2nd if the anchor is Dark Wesker, and I prefer to use Vergil/Wesker as an anchor than as an 2nd Character
but thanks for the advice bro
